Assuming this comment was made about the free throw shooting debate. That is a topic that unless you know exactly what it takes to be a good free throw shooter, (ie: experienced what it takes) than in my opinion just stating that "they need to practice more" is an irrational argument. Sorry if I offended you in any way, but its a major pet peeve of mine when people argue things as facts when they don't know what they are talking about.

You are confused my friend. Ready2go knows a lot about sports. He knows what he is talking about.

You are confused my friend. The person you are refering to is a 2 time national champion. So you should probably look in the mirror before you criticize people

I can neither confirm nor deny this statetment....lets say I was but not in the sport we are referring to.

Regardless being able to test your players physically and mentally is part of being a coach. If it were just one guy missing free throws that would fall on the individual. When it becomes a team problem that falls on the coach. Point blank period.

I learned this from a very successful coach! Pushing your guys not always physically to limit but also mentally in practice is part of coaching. Doesn't matter what sport it is.

Being a national champion in a unnamed sport does not qualify you as a expert in basketball.

Lets play soon. I would like to run you again Franchise haha:D

Correct! Point being there is more to each sport than just x's and o's and physical ability. Challenging players in practice mentally is key. DOES NOT MATTER WHAT SPORT YOU ARE IN.

PS. Im confident in myself and the franchises basketball ability anyday of the week. We make it rain

Nice!

I guess I have to team up with the retard LivingLegend and run you fools haha.

Loser doesnt post on bearcattalk for the month of march??

I'm awesome at MLB 2007 as well as Mariokart. That pretty much seals the deal.

Hey...I don't want to see a prolific poster off for a month. How about custom avatars or a signature?

And I'm a national champion in softball, so what! We are talking about basketball here, not swimming, soccer, football, softball or whatever. I dont care what sport you are good at because we are talking about basketball and just because you are good at one sport doesnt mean you know jack about another.

Again your ignorance blinds you.

I said all x's and o's aside there is more to coaching!!!!!
You brought up the corralation between free throw shooting and mental toughness.. Correct??

Mental toughness has zero to do with the knowledge of BASKETBALL. In any sport a good coach will challenge his players to overcome mental barriers. Like i said if only one player was missing the free throws that would prob be his problem alone. The fact that the majority of the team struggles, now it becomes a coaching thing. He needs to step in.

Yes John Calipari took the blame to get pressure off his players.....
Well has Mick done that???? NO

Now we agree. I wish Mick one time would say I just got schooled today. Some will get on him for that but most would find it refreshing. Sometimes I want to here him say he has got to do better. Wont happen though.

yea about time we agree on something greatone..

but back to catsfan
what i mean by practicing free throws:
Does Mick at the end of practice say shoot 10 before going in?
Does Mick say come in 5 minutes before and shoot 15 free throws on your own?

Or if you want to make it realistic and mentally tough...Does he run them put one guy on the line and say team runs if you miss? (just an ex) Maybe he does this, I dont know thats why I asked.....

There are ways to improve mental toughness. Putting players in a clutch situation at practice carries over to the game.

My main problem with Mick is this. He has lists of excuses to use after games, as if he coached the perfect game, the players just didn't execute.

I find it hard to believe a Coach with Micks pedigree doesn't practice pressure free throw situations in practice. Especially when our team is very poor at shooting free throws! It is you who are ignorant to think that they dont work on these things! With the general low basketball IQ on this team, why is it so hard to believe that most of the team struggles at the line.

Not once did I say anything about Mick's making excuses, he makes way to many of them we all agree on that.

But that is the case, players decide games not coaches. All coaches at the college level know the same X's and O's. The zone offense that UC ran against Syracuse was the same zone offense that Louisville ran against Syracuse. The difference was Louisville made shots and UC did not make any the last 10 minutes.

You keep saying this, but then say Mick is a great coach for out coaching UCONN. What is it going to be, the players fault for losing, coach gets credit for winning?
