I'm not in favor of casting off a player, but if it came down to Parker vs Guyn or Davis not being on the team next year, I would choose Parker. I just didn't see much from Parker when he was given a chance last year, and am not sure if there is room for him on this years team. From all reports, Guyn can handle the back-up point guard duties, and Davis is a very good 3 point shooter. Their skill sets may be better than what Parker can provide. The down side is of course the lack of experience, but the majority of the minutes for the backcourt (positions 1-3) will go to a combination of Cash, DD, SK, Sanders, and Shaq. The 10-15 minutes per game needed from the trio of Guyn, Davis, or Parker would be better served by Guyn or Davis, as they still have 4 years left in the program, and likely have more of an upside.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but those were the reports on Parker as well. He was supposed to be able to handle and even excel at the PG spot. Recruits are always overhyped and it seems fans always want the recruits over a current player.

Parker had a rough year, but if he can improve his shot he can contribute. He's never going to be an all american but he can become a valuable contributor off the bench. Who knows about Davis and Guyn because they are still in high school. They could be all world but it's an unknown.

i just dont know how you can say sight unseen that you would prefer Guyn, Davis, Thomas, and Sanders all to Parker. I think we are all happy with their potential futures with UC, but lets be honest- its not like we signed Marquis Teague or Brad Beal coming in who we know will absolutely command minutes. Guys can get overlooked in the recruiting process by scouts- but do you really think all 4 were overlooked and we got 4 guys who will come in and just cast away a 2 year player- who 1 year ago started for uss for several games- overtaking Cashmere? Scouts have seen them all play. I am excited about their future, but none of them are going to come in and just cast away a 2 year player and force him to transfer.

Here were the guys finalists:
Thomas- UC, UTEP, SHU
Davis- UC, Ball State
Guyn- Providence, Baylor, Western Kentucky
Sanders-Rutgers

I don't mean this to disrespect the recruits, Im just being realistic. They all have great futures ahead of them, but we didnt just land a 5 star, ala a Lance who was able to immediately take most of Bishops minutes. Parker has 2 years big east experience, 2 years of practice experience, 2 years of strength and conditioning, and Mick absolutely loves him. I just dont understand how people can just assume that all of our recruits who havent played a minute of college ball or PRACTICE are better than him.

i think its pretty clear anyways, that if anyone is going, its Ellis.

To be fair you're only shedding half a light on those recruits' interest as well, dp.

ESPECIALLY Sanders and Thomas. We all know Jeremiah blew up early on and then some big time high majors (Michigan State for example) backed off him.

Good points. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. Parker may be better than these two, but to me it seems as if Mick has been recruiting and securing a high caliber of player with each class. As least each incoming class seems to be more BE ready.

Good post. I'm not sure if this is the complete offer list of the incoming recruits, as Sanders also had offers from a number of other BE teams, including Villanova. He would likely be at SJU if they weren't restricted from recruiting him as they had hired his HS coach. But if you are looking at the offer list of the incoming recruits, you also have to include that Parker was likely going to ODU before he finished early and came to UC. Hopefully you are right about Parker, and he has a Dixon like offseason and becomes an integral part of the rotation.

I mentioned in my initial post that we are all assuming that Ellis is the one who may go. But I referenced a post from NCaabbs, from a poster who appears to be knowledgeable (Rath 2.0) who thought it would be one of the guards who won't be here next year. We will all soon find out.

We only have to worry about someone leaving or a recruit not eligible only if we sign another player right? I really dont think Cronin will sign another player and i believe GG will commit to St johns as soon as Lavin is within reach of him. As for any of the guards (davis or Guyn) not being eligible, i highly doubt it, both are in prep schools for a reason. I dont see Uc adding GG or losing any of the recruits. Something would have leaked already had one of the recruits not making the grades, isnt there high school seasons over with? I wouldnt worry and i really think That JP will make huge strides and become a solid contributor, once moved to his natural position. As for the offer lists for the recruits,
Shaq- had Syracuse and we all read the article stating alot of schools dont like to recruit NIA.
Jermaine- could of went anywhere in the Beast, Villanova was all over him
JD- schools cooled, why? maybe because he took to long to decide. Mich st and Ky recruited.
Ge lawn guyn- Baylor was all over him
Octavius- might of been the least recruited, but had he been uncommited long, his recruitment would of blown up.

this is a very good recruiting class,3 of them are currently in the top 150 and the other two were in the rankings at one time also. Mick is doing a wonderful job and has a superior eye for talent.

to clarify to you and psax- my post says their "finalists" not who their complete list of offers was. guys get offers throughout their hs career- some are soft offers, some are legit, some are tied with a "commit anytime you want", some are tied with a "we'll see where we are at when you commit." im not trying to rip uc recruits, just trying to point out that we arent bringing in a loaded class of instant stars pushing for starting spots.

as for jeremiah davis, IU backed off of him, MSU backed off of him. same with shaq and syracuse. do you really think davis was considering going to ball state rather than msu? or do you really think thomas was considering going utep instead of syracuse? --- just because they recruited them early doesnt mean they wanted them late...

The class is solid. You will have 3 guys contribute as first year players. Don't believe JP is going anywhere.

agree 100%.

although i must ask- are you including Mbodj when you say this- i.e. 3 of 5 contribute or 3 of 6 contribute?

No, I think Davis, Thomas, and Sanders will all contribute next season. I also think Guyn will see minutes. Mbodji will be asked to contribute but I only know what I've read. If he has the fundamental basis that some are saying he has, I think he will contribute as well. 3-4 of the six will see 5-15 minutes a game imo.

We are all anxious to hear something. Will he decide? Will he take other visits? He sees himself as a 3, will this play a role? Going to be interesting.

His coach was quoted as recently as Thursday saying Cinti is still very much in consideration. He wants playing time which is something he could get at all 3 schools. I think all three would use him as a combo forward.

Hasn't Lavin loaded up on 3's for next year? Didn't he sign 3-5 of them, already?

God’s Gift Achiuwa (6’9, 240, PF, Erie CC) will visit St. John’s this weekend. Gift has visited Cincinnati and Washington the past two weekends and will decide between the three after visiting St. John’s. Some reports have said that Rhode Island and Charlotte are in the mix, but he does not have any visits scheduled after this weekend. There has also been some talk that his natural position would be at the 3 spot. After seeing him play several times this year, I don’t see any way that he could play on the perimeter. He doesn’t handle the ball well and struggles outside of 10 feet. Achiuwa doesn’t have great hands, but plays extremely hard and hits the glass on both ends. He seemed to enjoy his visit to Washington, but didn’t say who his leader was. Cincinnati has one scholarship available.

Sounds like we should have a decision in a couple days... it's certainly a plus that he didn't commit to Washington or St. John's either during his visits.

It seems after every visit the same thing is said by his coach that he liked the coaches and the campus. Somebody knows something.
But i agree its a big plus but i do have a bad feeling about st johns especially with them having the last visit and the amount of playing time they have to offer. I cant wait to find out though.
He really fits are system though and thats a plus he is hustle player, hard worker, tough rebounder and sounds like he will fit the press well with his athleticism. I also love his coach ability. Kinda sounds like a more physically mature j jack.
