He is a big 3 IMO. I am really excited for the future of this program.

If Yancy stays...

Cash, Dion, Killa, Jackson, Yancy with this group of freshman??? I like that a lot.

But we'll have Shaq, Sanders and Kelvin Gaines all coming off the bench with good size for their positions...

We'd be small, IMO.

Shaq is very talented, and appears to be ready for immediate contribution. However, he is thin. 6'7" is Darnel Wilks height and length. That is a plus.

'Maine is a beast, but is only 6'4". He is a more skilled Bishop, IMO. Bishop is having a GREAT year, so I don't want to diminish that, but I think 'Maine has the potential to be above and beyond Bishop.

Gaines is an unknown. Big on potential, with plenty of suitors out of HS. However, how ready is he to contribute? Can he defend, rebound and give 100% every play? If so, he'll help immediately. If not, we may be in trouble.

Your right we would be small but very talented IMO. If Gates stays we won't be that small. Definately wouldn't be overwhelmed.

I don't agree with the whole we'd be small thing. We would be small at the 5. That's really it. Parker is a big guard (if he plays the point) at about 6'3"". SK is 6'4" which is above average for a SG. Cash at 6'0" is average for a PG. Sanders is going to play 2/3 which means he is either above average or below average in size. Shaq is a very good sized 3. Guyn is a big guard. JD is an average SG. Jackson at 6'8" is an average 4 and will be even stronger next year. Gaines at 6'10 is a solid size for a 5. Gates is either an above average 4 at 6'9" or a little small 5 (not much). I think when you look at the roster, the size is about average for a Big East team. They will be able to create some mismatches due to size and may be at a disadvantage against certain teams in the Big East too. The issue, IMO, is in the depth at the 4 or 5. If Mick can land a big in this class that can contribute even a few minutes a game defensively and can rebound, size no longer becomes a concern at all.

If Justin Jackson is 6'8", Sean Kilpatrick is 6'6".

Our guards are big and athletic.

Yancy is a beast in the post, assuming he is back.

Our wings are thin and athletic....they're not bangers.

I am just going by the listings on gobearcats.com. As we all know, very few of those numbers for any team are really accurate.

So was Ryan Fletcher. I am not saying it can't happen but as long has he isn't soft I am good. Hate soft big men.

I think the chances of Gates going pro are very small with the state of the NBA collective bargaining agreement and the fact tha Yancy still needs to work on his low post game.

Shaq had a big game though his team lost their game this weekend. He scored 32 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

NATIONAL PREP SCHOOL INVITATIONAL RUNDOWN

Syracuse signee Michael Carter-Williams of St. Andrew’s was named Most Outstanding Player for the second straight year while other Big East signees Maurice Harkless (St. John’s/South Kent), Jakarr Sampson (St. John’s/Brewster Academy) and Shaquille Thomas (Cincinnati/NIA Prep) were named to the 12-man All-Tournament team for their performances over the weekend.

Shaquille Thomas (Nia Prep)- The most impressive athlete on the floor in Nia’s comeback victory over Marianapolis on Sunday, the six-foot-six , ultra-long, ultra-athletic wing showed off his elite finishing ability in transition, catching the ball above the room on passes from his running mate Kelvin Amayo to finish with flair from a variety of angles. Thomas was a monster on the glass, using his quick bounce around the rim to out-jump groups of defenders and finish with both hands, and, while his supreme athleticism is by far the most dynamic part of his game at this time, the Cincinnati-commit has a blossoming perimeter skill-set that could make him a special player for Mick Cronin and company down the road in the Big East.

It will be interesting to see how his athleticism and that "blossoming perimeter skill-set" transition to the Big East next year. The great thing about this freshmen class is- although we're all expecting big things from them, they won't be counted on to come in immediately and be starters or leaders of the team. Isn't it nice having (legitimate) upperclassmen?

Exactly! This is probably the biggest turn of events for this program since Mick took over. Having upper classmen who are legitimate Big East players is going to help immensely.

On a side note, I really wish Wilks had one more year of eligibilty. He frustrates me at times still with his decision making, but he has made some tremendous strides this season and has really given us some nice minutes. He pulled down a couple huge rebounds in traffic at the end of that Depaul game.
