JumpinJack you are definitely hitting on some points about Strickland.

Positives:

Big body 6'9" 240 range

Strong Hands - hopefully our guards will be able to make entry passes

Lefty - for some reason lefty shots always look so sweet

Post Moves - in prev article stated he can turn to either shoulder

Good Rebounder

Hard worker-heard he has been shredding weight off his frame since he has been healthy

Negatives/Unknowns

Knee surgeries - we have seen what they have done to Cash, how will his body react to playing full season

Health/Durability - Like Lawrence, hopefully will be healthy for full season

FT Shooting - would be nice to have a big that can shoot FT's

Strickland definitely has the makeup to be a classic bearcat/fan favorite. I think the fact he is coming back from surgery and he is 2 years removed from HS make him a hungry/mature player. You definitely have to think he is low risk high reward.

This is definitely the best set of observations I've seen on Strickland. I realize that he isn't the perfect 5 star guy and might need time to develop, but I think this class is so good that he often gets overlooked because we know the least about him. I like his frame and makeup; hopefully, he doesn't turn into another long, dreadful Mick Cronin big man project. I think he is the opposite of a guy like, say, Yancy. This guy is coming in with a chip on his shoulder, he wants to prove that he is healthy and should've been recruited by more big time schools. A guy with his frame and pretty good work ethic, as seen by how hard he has worked to overcome his injuries, leaves lots of room for potential and possibly a chance to be an immediate impact player.

Meh. Big men are alway kind of overrated on those lists. I'll wait until he's here and I see him play.

He was a 4 to even 5 (on one site) star guy, remember. He has skills and has a big body, he should at least score 4-6 points off of putbacks from our horrible shooting. From some of the few highlights I've seen, he looks like a very good rebounder. It sounds like he has been getting calls from big-time schools, by the way he talks on twitter, and that we snatched him before people could see him back from injury. Best thing is, he already signed his LOI, so he can't back out now.

what site had him a 5*? Never saw that.

At 6-foot-9 and 240 pounds, Jamaree Lamar Strickland is a force inside. Unfortunately, a knee injury last spring replaced summer competition with rehab. Despite the injury, the 5-star post prospect has become popular among college coaches throughout the nation.

That is my trepidation right there. I've seen plenty of 5-star big men struggle early on to not get too excited about a guy that no one had heard of when he committed. That's not meant to knock the guy. I think he sounds like a fine prospect, but I think it's going to take some time. Hopefully he proves me wrong. We could definitely use a big with some skill around the rim.

Here is the article where he was mentioned...

Signees who proved why they are Top Players

It was great to get a glance of the guys that have already made their college decisions. These guys played stellar throughout the whole entire event.

Let’s start with Jamaree Strickland (2013) of Carolina Prep, the 6'9 Cincinnati signee who was a complete force in the middle scoring 33 points and grabbing 16 boards in the first contest of the prep showcase game.

You think he could score 8-10 ppg with 6-7 rpg next year?? I'm not even overly confident that Lawrence will be that productive as a Freshman. Hell, Chane Behanan barely puts up those type of numbers for UL.

Strickland will certainly get the chance to try! Barring injury I have high hopes for him.

First year is always hard to figure, but I think there is an excellent chance Lawrence is a superior player to Chane as a frosh. He certainly has FAR more upside.

I think Strickland and Lawrence will be able to come in and do some scoring. The question IMO is how quickly both adjust to being d1, major program, defenders. Chane put up decent scoring and rebound numbers but was a LOUSY defender last year - not tenacious and sometimes completely lost.

Just my .02 from out of the blue

Chane had the body his freshman year though. Lawrence may, I don't know, but having a college ready body as a freshman is a big factor in how much a freshman can contribute.

Thanks. So I guess Rivals had him as a 5*?

I'm really excited for him. We need what he brings to the table as far as skills and ability. You also don't play your way back to a high level from injury as he has done without having an awesome work ethic and desire.

I'm always excited for new recruits, Jamaree if your reading this 90% of bearcat nation is excited to have you, there are quite a bit of pessimistic people on this board. I for one am very excited about you coming here, we need a quality big man here ASAP and if you could bring that too us that would be amazing!!!

I completely agree.

And if you really look at college basketball recruiting - the hardest to find players are bigs who can put up numbers. Most guys, even pretty good players, simply don't have the skill level to put up 30 plus, ever.

The box score doesn't lie.

Chane is 6'6, Strickland is 6'9, that's a huge difference!

I was comparing Chane to Lawrence in reference to Eastside's post. My only point was that Chane was able to make such a big impact his freshman year because he came in with a college ready body. Don't get me wrong, he is a very good player but the fact that he was physically ready made all the difference in the world. I don't know how physically ready Lawrence will be, but he is also more of a face up player so it may not make as much of a difference.

not to mention he is putting up 30+ points against prep school opponents, it would be one thing if he were only on a public highschool team, but the fact he is putting up those kind of numbers against prep schools is simply amazing.

That's great! Quick, more negative critiques. A highly motivated Zach Randolph type player is exactly what this team needs.

Just remember big man, many of us are excited to see you in a Bearcat uniform next season . Light it up!!
