Earlier in the week, usfnation.com reported that 2013 big man, Chris Perry, had cut his list down to six. Murray State, Tulsa, Butler, Miami, South Florida, and Cincinnati are the final schools being considered by the three star recruit out of Bartow Senior High School in Florida. Today, Perry told me that there were two favorites in the hunt; Cincinnati and South Florida.
“I like Cincinnati a lot, and my friend Kevin Johnson is signed to play there too,” said Perry.
He is set to make a visit to Cincy on September 6th and will make a decision sometime soon after that. He doesn’t plan on making any other visits after taking a trip to the home of the Bearcats, which may put them in a good spot to sign Perry. As far as his thoughts on South Florida, Perry didn’t have a lot to say, but he informed me that location was key.
“South Florida is so close to home and I love their coaching staff and facilities,” Perry informed, “So that puts them in a good spot. Plus, I’ve already visited their three times.”
I wouldn’t quite count the other four schools out of the race, but these two definitely have the lead. Cincinnati recently did a great job with big man, Yancey Gates, and Perry may benefit from Coach Cronin and his staff as well. South Florida definitely has the local appeal, and being in the Big East helps as well.
At 6’8 and 245 pounds, Perry will bring a lot of size to the table at the next level. His quickness and athleticism will be questioned, but with a strong work ethic, he should be able to compete at a high level. Will it be Cronin’s ‘Cats dressing the young forward in 2013? Or will the Bull prevail?

I think he is ours for the taking.

What's that old saying? - "Don't count your chickens before they are hatched". After the Obekpa saga, not sure how anyone could make that statement in regards to recruiting. I'm not counting on this until he is signed, sealed, and delivered.

In much agreement with you on this one!

If we had Perry and Morman to finish out this class, we would have a class full of some serious sleepers.

I would say there was always a "shadowy" element to the Obekpa recruitment. Until St. johns re-emerged late he was UC's. My guess is UC leads for Perry but USF has to be taken seriously as well. If he signs early I think UC gets him. If it lingers on the chances start dropping imo as more suitors enter the fray and USF will have an opportunity to have a good season. Right Now I'd go UC 1 with USF a strong 2.

@caupain10 yeah Coach say he set our visits up at the same time

Caupain will be visiting with Perry for the Pitt game.

Looks like a slam dunk to me.

Especially if these 3 kids are talking to eachother about it.

I shot an email to the compliance office and they said it would not be permissible to have a sign for a potential recruit. The likelihood of me actually having the time and gumption to sit down and make a sign would be slim anyway, but I'm glad I asked.

I think the Bearcats have an excellent chance of a verbal from Perry. My guess is he verbals some where right after that visit or in the following 3 weeks.

Has a final 5 of Miami, Tulsa, Temple, Cincinnati, and South Florida. There is specculation that Waverly leaving USF may be a tipping factor for the Bulls but I believe UC has as good a chance as anyone.

Hopefully coming to the Pitt game with Caupain and Johnson will be the deciding factor.

I don't see playing time with Waverly leaving being a big threat. There is playing time to be had at UC too. His Freshman year, Nyarsuk, Rubles and JJ will be seniors. Mbodj will be gone. Gaines will be a Junior but who knows if it will have clicked for him by then. He may not have a ton of PT available as a freshman, but he would be a critical piece to the puzzle as a sophomore and he would be on a better team.
