Hopefully a JUCO isn't a project, if he is he isn't worth a scholarship.

Funny UC supposedly stopped recruiting him. Seems like UC hasn't lost a recruiting battle in a while, they just back off the recruits. I'm guessing his mind was already made up which is why UC backed off, if in fact they really did.

I was actually surprised to hear people thinking we would still possibly land Grantham after we got Clark and Moore. Why? We will have up to 5 players IMO who can (depending on how big we want to play and who we need to keep on the court) play the 3 after this year. Thomas, Clark, Lawrence, Mormon, and Sanders. We will have at least 3 players who can play the 4...Moore, Clark, and Lawrence.

Why would we want to add more players to a position of strength when we have question marks at other positions? Grantham stopped making sense to me as soon as we got Clark and Moore.

I think it was more of a "best player available" situation. I would have wanted Grantham over a project even if the position he would play is getting a bit crowded. UC is trying to be bigger and longer than every team that they play. 6-8 small forward who is generally regarded as a top 100 prospect definitely fits that recipe. While Im disappointed there are always opportunities in the spring. UC will have a better grasp on the team that is has and can go after the last scholarship accordingly. Knowing Mick and the staff though they are already checking in on more '14 prospects.

Both Jeff and Brendel both stated that getting Clark and Moore had nothing to do with Grantham's status.

Just seems odd that we have a chance to get a top 50 guard and a top 75 SF and we quit recruiting both at last minute.

Jared Terrell I know the reason behind. It all lined up. Morman gets eligible, he cancels his visit, chooses another school. With Grantham something doesnt quite add up. Fills another front court interchangeable player which UC cant get enough of. Recruited him for a long time. Got him on campus. Visit supposedly went very well from sources at UC and even Gary Clark commenting on it. Michigan visit supposedly not a homerun. All of that and we suddenly stop recruiting him. This one I dont buy. Something else is at play here. No idea what and I dont want to speculate but it seems like someone outside the Grantham family might have a hand in this.

I'm guessing that it just means they were told by the kid they weren't coming to UC so UC was quick to say they "stopped" recruiting him to save face. I'm sure it happens in other programs as well. Personally, I would much rather it be this way then keep trying until the very end and have to listen to the fanbase go on and on about how "Michigan paid him they are cheaters" and my favorite "I'm glad we didn't give in and stoop to there level we have more class."

There is no reason to save face in recruiting. You always lose much more than you win. Maybe that is what happened and he just informed UC that he was going to UM. Still something about this seems a bit off.

Brendel made it very clear that UC cancelled his visit, not the other way around.

Sorry, that's what I meant. Adds up even more with that correction. Donte's situation Im having trouble understanding why UC would abruptly end it's recruitment of him. Maybe, as it was stated above, that Grantham simply told UC it was not going to be them. Personally, I dont think that was it.

If I had to guess, I would say Grantham liked our coaching staff, players, and system, but maybe was swayed by Michigan's facilities (Crisler Center is beautiful post-renovation) and appearance in the national championship game last year.

If we can get a renovated Fifth Third/US Bank and maybe a Final Four appearance in the next few years, we will start winning more of these recruiting battles.

If we stopped contacting Grantham after we signed the other two forwards it would make perfect sense to me.

If we were still actively recruiting him after the commits then I would say we just lost out to UM.

I would guess somebody knows if we were still trying with Grantham...and it doesn't sounds like we were.

But see that's what doesnt add up to me. If they were going to stop recruiting Clark or Grantham if the other one committed why would they cancel the Terrell visit? They dont need another guard and the front court could still use another hybrid 3\4 with Lawrence probably out the door in the next two years. The dynamic between all of that seems weird to me. I just dont believe UC called it quits because of Clark. I also dont believe that based off all the information that was out there on the UC\UM visits that he just told the coaches he was going to UM. I think something else happened in between the time he got back and UC backed off. I am in no way accusing UM of anything improper. Easy to see why a kid would choose UM over UC. Just thought it was going down to the wire and all of the sudden there was this drastic shift. Probably way off on this one but just has a weird feel to me.

Maybe it will be like Moore...wasn't it said that we backed off him and then all the crystal ball people switched to Seton Hall before he committed here? Now granted Chad is about a reliable of a source as you can get on this information, but I seem to remember seeing that we were out of the picture for Moore as well and that we were backing off.

Maybe, but I think in the Moore instance it was more of a feeling based on what he was seeing. I agreed with him. Moore had been a UC lean and then all of the sudden you heard nothing out of his camp and didnt make the trip up to Cincinnati. Then it's announced he is going to make his pick soon. Just thought UC had backed off for whatever reason. In this instance Chad seems to have some pretty solid information about UC simply getting out of Grantham's recruitment. Not just backing off but cutting it off completely. At least that is what I understood from the tweets he sent out. Moore was definitely a shock and the Grantham situation just feels as if there is more going on behind the scenes than we know. I just dont think it was as simple as Gary Clark committed or Donte just chose UM. Once again Im not suggesting any impropriety from Michigan. Donte may have even been leaning that way before the UC visit but still the timing seems strange.

I thought we backed off Terrell after Mormon was cleared?

What if Mick had to back off of Grantham in order to get Clark?

I am not even sure why it becomes such a big deal to certain people whether we "backed off" or whether we just lost out to another team. In this case it makes sense to me that we backed off for one reason or another because of the recent commits at the same position.

IMO I don't think it's a coincidence that all of these things are happening right after the Clark/Grantham visit. It seems likely to me that Mick wanted to get 2 out of 3 of these guys and Moore was 3rd on the list. He was probably hoping to get commits from Clark and Grantham on their visits or within a day or two after.

He probably put Moore off as long as he could and maybe Cronin put a deadline in there. Moore waited as long as he could and then accepted an old offer. Clark decides to commit and now we don't have the need anymore. We need other things.

Is it even possible that Clark told Cronin he would commit if we backed off Grantham or pulled the offer? I am guessing things like this happen? Or maybe coach says "it's either you or him...whoever commits first"?

Yes those things happen. They didn't happen here but they do happen...
