Ok so either the info people are putting out about us backing off Grantham is wrong or Cincinnati never told Grantham they dropped out on him he just made a FINAL 4 and we are in it you don't put a team in your final 4 if they don't want you.

Definitely not an either\or situation. Players put teams on their final list all the time that they never were going to end up at. Also the tweet said "publicly". What does that mean? There is a different final 4 privately?

Splitting hairs guys, there may be a better recruit committing in the spring at the same position and the staff feels they are ok for one more year there. It could be there is a long jam at the sf position for the next two years. Could be things were said from the recruits end and then other things happened. UC is in good shape regardless. I'm hoping for a better shooter personally.

Can't argue with that!

We were in will Terrell till the very end and he couldn't come out and say I have a new final 4 because Cincinnati dropped me.

If you don't think kids keep schools on their list that have dropped them to keep up appearances I don't know what to tell you.

It happens all the time.

They put teams on there final list that they hope offer and grew up watching so they can commit to not teams that stop recruiting them and don't want them.

I view it as being similar to free agents in other sports. Scott Boras could say there are 5 teams in on someone(when only 1 team is interested) to see if that makes anyone else interested and also up that players stock

Yes it happens quite a bit. Oftentimes a player will get an offer at an early stage of their recruitment. Time goes by and the offer isn't still on the table, but the recruit will still list that school as a possibility, even though he knows there is no chance he will go there.

I forget the names but I'm pretty sure in the last couple years, a couple old targets of ours put us on their final list before they decided even though we hadn't recruited them for quite some time.

When I was making my college selection I often told people I was down to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and UC. After discussing with my family my lack of qualifications for 3 of them...we ended up liking UC the best:) I wouldn't say the other three stopped actively recruiting me because they never "officially" started...but they made my final 4.

This is exactly why I didn't understand the decision to cancel Terrell's visit. You miss out on one of your top targets, Grantham, and now there doesn't seem to be a lot of good options for the final scholarship other than saving it for a possible transfer. If Terrell was still interested in coming here for a visit, despite the depth at guard, then you definitely get him on campus. I don't think the talent level is to the point yet where you can just stop recruiting a top 100 player that is very interested in your program. I trust Mick, but the Terrell situation was a head-scratcher.

I understand what you are saying but I think we are in a much stronger position heading into the spring this time. We have a solid base right now with the last two classes. We will find out if we have a weak spot to fill after watching our players. Several HS players will shoot onto the radar as late bloomers (or under the radar), there may be transfers, there will still be some top rated recruits left that we maybe didn't go after yet, we can maybe nab a Juco to fill a hole for 2 years, etc.

With just one spot to fill I am a lot less nervous than I have been in the past about waiting till spring. I would rather fill a weak spot than have one more talented person in the 2-4 spots. Even if one or two players don't pan out 2-4 we are still in pretty good shape IMO. I can't imagine a scenario where we will need more help at combo guard, wing, or forward.

How can you say that unless you've seen all the new guards play and Terrell?

Well, that's why I said I ultimately trust Mick. Just basing this off the time we've spent following Terrell's recruitment on this board. He was said to be the perfect power/attacking guard for this program and a potential huge get. I always figured Morman's eligibility just to be icing on the cake, not the deciding factor on the recruitment of a highly rated player that was a so-called perfect fit. Had Grantham committed then it would have made more sense, but that didn't work out. Assuming Terrell was still very interested in coming here, I don't see how we can do much better with the final scholarship.
