Was hoping we'd land him. Don't want a PG who defends well but can't score, distribute, shoot FTs. Would love to see us land a very fundamentally sound PG who can run an offense consistently.

Maybe but it signals to me that we are not ready to give up on Evans, Hudson, Sanders ect. Im glad the process is gonna play out a little longer in our search for a PG.

I can't imagine it's because UC hasn't decided if they want him here. Jenifer probably just hasn't decided himself yet. He was offered forever ago.

I dont think its about deciding whether they want him or not. They had him on campus so they obviously want him. However they may want someone else more. It seems the process will now play out a little longer. You better believe if they can get Evans on campus he will be here.

Is it weird I was happy about him leaving without committing?

Considering we've only landed 6 consensus top 100 players in the last 8 years I'm not overly optimistic that we land any of the top guards on our list. I'd be more than happy with a good passing guard like Jenifer to start off the class.

Well we are now recruiting with a much better resume. 5 consecutive years in the top 25, 4 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, 2 consecutive years in the top 10, a consensus 1st team all american and coach of the year in the conference that produced the national champion. I expect to start landing top 100 players consistently. It's what we should be targeting and its what we should be getting.

While I agree that we deserve a couple Top 100s every year, you can't be too picky. Last thing you want to do is make Jenifer not feel welcome and pick somewhere else, then we land none of the big guys we want, and wind up with a couple 2-3 stars and mediocre jucos. You can't assume we get really any of those big names. I'm guessing one, tops.

Could not agree more. I'm just not overly optimistic about it. Mick doesn't seem like a guy that tells recruits/family/handlers exactly what they want to hear just to hang recruiting banners. I'm fine with that too. Hopefully we can find more top 100 players that really want to be here. It would be nice to finally get to the point where we are deciding which highly recruited player we are going to take, instead of just hoping that we land one every other year or so.

so u believe he wanted to commit but cronin said not yet?

I doubt that was the case. Sorry if my wording made it seem like Cronin and the staff told Justin no. I currently have no knowledge of that situation. I just meant that with him leaving Cincy and not committing the staff can still aggressively pursue those other options. (Which I've made clear is my preference at this point) However I do want to say I completely understand the point made by other members on this thread. I know you cant be picky in recruiting and have to lock down good talent when you can. Cant risk not getting anyone. I just feel like we have some time to see where we are at with others before we have to pull the trigger. As always this is a staff I trust. They know far more than I do about evaluating talent and what is the best fit for their system. Just in my personal opinion Jenifer needs to improve in quite a few areas for me to get really excited about him and I think the areas im concerned with are very hard to make great strides on. (Height, speed, natural feel for scoring)

This is off topic, but this is why I don't understand voting for these things before the season is completely over. Nothing against Mick, but Ollie won the national title with his team. Kind of seems in hindsight like maybe he should've been coach of the year. I'm glad Mick got it and at the time of the vote probably deserved it considering we won a share of the regular season crown, but any coach will tell you March is what counts and how did March play out?

I disagree with your point about Ollie laying claim to conference coach of the year in hindsight. Coach of the year in a conference should reflect on how a coach performs within the conference. I think Mick earned that award . Ollie and the huskies got hot at the right time and he made some amazing adjustments in the tournament. Conference coach of the year is not about who the best coach in conference is, its about the results each coach gets while in the conference. UCONN was blown out by the Cards twice and did not win a share of the title. Awards should be given out after the conference season is over. A one game elimination tournament shouldnt decide that award.

I can agree to this. But at the end of the day are people talking about Mick or Ollie?

His video reminds me of michael Horton. Too much flashy crap that won't fly in college basketball.

Very much so. The dilemma that I have with Jenifer is that he has to ability to be a very good distributor. Plays low to the ground, has good vision, and wants to be a leader. Those are fantastic traits to have in a point guard. He just needs to harness those skills. If he could do that he could be a very good point guard. The more and more I think about it and watch him Im coming around on him. I still prefer the other targets but I can see him being a good fit that we can develop. Now he just has to grow 6 inches. (Haha)

@FriarTV
Justin Jenifer to pick school "in a couple days." Visited Cincy this wknd. PC was in top 3. No more visits planned. Looks like UC #pcbb

This handle only has 630 followers but it looks like they follow Providence recruiting pretty closely on the website. It's the only thing on Twitter saying that though. Take it for what it's worth.

We might have this one wrapped up.
