Cincinnati is up to 16 in the CBS Sports top 25 and one. I think that is probably where they will be ranked in the AP Poll.

This poll makes me angry. What has Kentucky done to deserve being #13 besides losing to a bunch of better teams and beating Louisville? And Iowa State, losers of 3 straight games, at #10?

Agreed. I am not worried about UCF, but at Temple is a trap game. They will be mad they let the last game slip away and we could be looking past them to Louisville. Hopefully Cronin can keep their heads in it. A loss to a sub-.500 team would be a massive blemish.

If you would give me a 1-1 record right now for that 2-game road trip, I'd take it and move on. Our offense and defense will both have to come to the party to beat Louisville down there and Mick will have to be good as well. I just think Temple will also be very tough to beat there as well. It wouldn't surprise me if we drop both.

Why do you say that? Of those 5 teams I mentioned that have at least one loss this week, which two do you think they will not pass?

I think it will be close with OSU and Iowa State. The voters would prefer to stay closer to previous rankings so they don't look bad. Iowa State lost one of those to a really good Kansas team. I would say Baylor, Memphis and KY we should pass. Not sure what the voters will do on the others.

UCF is at home on Thursday. We should win both. I would not be surprised if we lost to Temple, but I would definitely be disappointed.

Temple has been in every game this season. Eventually they will either finally pull through or fall apart. I have seen a lot of teams like Temple that just fall apart and start getting blown out to finish the season. Let's hope that happens when we go to Philly, that one has trap game written all over it.

I agree with your post, but when you are ranked and on a winning streak every game becomes a trap game, especially on the road. Great position to be in I suppose. What seperates the great teams from the good ones are not falling into these traps and taking care of business. Will be interesting to see how this team plays the year out. I think most all will agree we will slip up somewhere and are hoping for at least a split in our toughest 6 games remaining. Gonna be a fun two months.

It's like us last year, didn't close out a few games and it cost us.

OSU has now dropped 3 straight though. That will generally drop you pretty far pretty quickly. I think they'll hover around 19. I think Iowa St will be close but I still see us passing them. Hard to not drop a lot when you lose two in a week.

I agree with closing games out. Other than Houston I feel like we have done well in this category. Against USF it came right down to the end and we responded and got it to a 7 point lead in short order. We have closed out games with FT's and we have only had one big lead which was squandered.

Part of the reason is depth...we aren't as tired as we were last year and the year before. Getting Lawrence back would really help. We are hitting FT's better this year as well. We probably have better senior leaders...guys who don't think losing is an option. JJ and SK are gamers...they hate losing. TR is doing a great job too.

I still font get how he has UK that high. They haven't proved to be worthy of an 11 ranking

Would not be surprised if weds night Iowa lost to Mich in Ann harbor, and would not be surprised if umass lost at Richmond, Cincy should win both games this week, maybe Baylor can beat Kansas as well, but don't really see too many spaces we can move up especially where we are going to play 2 opponents probably ranked near 170ish rpi wise apiece. Temple is probably even worse that that this year.

I have a feeling our new ranking is going to be a little high until we get Lawrence back. There is a big difference in how we play when JJ is on the bench and Lawrence is in the game compared to when JJ is on the bench and Nyarcuk is in the game. Of course the biggest key is to keep JJ in the game.

It sounds like this won't happen for at least a few weeks based on an article BC Jeff posted in the team health thread. That would put us near the UCONN game Feb 6 but likely after. UL, SMU, and UCONN will be hard enough to win with JJ getting 30+ minutes...if he gets in foul trouble it may not be too pretty.

Like everyone else I want the Cats to be rated as high as possible. Now, its more important to me that we win the league title. Early in the year I thought we would be doing good to make the NCAA, Finsh 3rd in the league, win a game or two in the League Tournament and the same in the NCAA. If we remain in contentoin for the league title the ranking will take care of itself. To do that I figure we have to split games against SMU,Louisvile,Memphis and UCONN and run the table against everyone else. That would leave us 14-4 in the league. We're off to a good start. Half way to splitting with the four I mentioned. The two games this week are big. We need to stay perfect at home with a win over UCF and go on the road and beat Temple. Winning at Temple without JL will not be a easy task. Two wins this week will keep the pressure on everyone else. If we finish League Play 14-4 we will be rated in top 15 come Tournament time. Hopefully this will give us a 3-6 seed resume.

One game at a time fellas. Also remember to bombard Lances show toninght with calls. Lets create a buzz for the team. They deserve it.

Up to 15 in the ap poll which is a great accomplishment, but how louisville jumped us and uk only drops one spot after loosing to an unranked team bothers me. We should be thirteen, but I'll take it. Top 15!

UMass has played a lot of close game against mediocre teams. I think they peaked at around the #20 team but they will keep moving up as long as they win. I see some similarities to Cincinnati...

I agree Waite, well said. There is still a lot of basketball to be played. This week is crucial for us because the remaining schedule gets pretty tough. There is a lot of basketball left and the last 4 of our games are against tough teams. I think its ironic because it seems like who ever made the AAC schedule clearly wanted UC,UL,Memphis, and UCONN to play each other in the final two weeks of the season.
