2-21 Polls

I understand his frustrations but come on man, go about your business, win a few more games and reach the NCAA Tournament. Let the rest take care of it self.

I hear what you are saying and I don't disagree. I just think this is a coaching ploy and another way to play the no respect card. This team played their best basketball this year when they felt disrespected. I just chalk it up to that.

I wish Mick would sell the team instead of making statements like he made yesterday. If it were me I'd probably say something to this effect:

"Is it disappointing that the polls haven't recognized us? Yes. Especially when you consider we have victories over 3 of the teams that are in ahead of us and are 21-6 and 8-6 in the Big East. But that's out of our control. We'll just keep beating people until everyone stands up and takes notice that Cincinnati Basketball is back."

For everything I like about Mick, the one thing is does not do well is sell the program. He may be putting the chip back on the players shoulders like he did early in the season but he needs to take every opportunity to sell what the team has accomplished.

Frankly I think that's exactly his point though Jeff- that regardless of who says what within the program or even to a large extent what the 'Cats do on the court, it isn't going to matter in the Big East's and national media's eyes. UC will be a second tier story regardless. Dehner Jr. made the point that it's all about money and he's correct.

Personally I believe it wouldn't make one iota of difference if Mick tried pumping this team up to the media at every stop. Very, VERY few coaches in Cronin's situation would be able to actually make it stick. As much as it sickens me to say it the one that immediately comes to mind is Brian Kelly. He had the personality, the political savvy and the results on the field which combined for the perfect storm and gave UC Football by far the most national notoriety it had ever seen before.

Mick is no Brian Kelly- very few are... and he never will be. I just want him to win. If he does that, in two-three years once the UC fan base is stabilized again and UC is known as a consistent winner the love will start to return from the national media.
