To start the year the first sentence is wrong but by the end of the year it will be right and Caupain will probably improve greatly over the year.

If Caupain couldn't win the starting job last year away from Guyn midseason then I don't see it happening mid season this year. First of all I think Mick, or any coach, ideally wants his starting five on day one to be his starting five on the last day and every day in between. That's not to say Mick won't change his starting line-up if need be, but I think he's seen enough from both players to know what to expect from each for the season before it starts. I wouldn't be surprised to see Guyn starting at the point or Caupain. (Personally I think they both start at the 1 and 2.) But what I would be surprised to see is Mick change his mind mid season from Guyn to Caupain or vice versa. Last year would've made sense with Caupain being a freshman and an unknown. That's not the case this year. If Guyn were to beat him out to start the year I don't see that changing midseason.

Shaq guarding the inbound pass is our most lethal part of press. He caused many timeoits and bad passes that set up guys like guyn and Sk to be effective. Our biggest liability in press last year was Caupain. He was beat many times down court and was always taken out late for defensive sub.

TC needs work on defense no doubt. He was a freshman most do. My feeling is he will grow from the experience and be much better this year. Can't agree with your assessment of the most lethal part of press. Trapping the first pass is very important as well. Shaq is not a stellar defender or rebounder. Those two things require effort. If he is ready to take the next step he'll need to work on his entire game and physical conditioning. Throwing down a dunk on the backside of a fast break is not going to carry this team. It may excite the fans but it won't win games if the other parts of his game don't improve. Hope Shaq is up to the challenge.

David don't agree with your most coaches want to go into next season with a set starting five. Coaches look for players to work hard in off season. Most end of year speeches from coaches have to do with no one is guaranteed a starting spot next year. You better be working hard over the summer. Everything is wide open. If Guyn beats out TC it will be because he outplayed him. What happened last year was Mick tried to play TC when he needed more offense and Guyn when he needed more defense. Of course foul trouble may have made it necessary to adjust as well. Both players had their strengths and weaknesses. This year I look for the upper class men to provide strength off the bench much like Bishop,Davis and the rest of bomb squad.

I'm just confused on why you think KJ is going to be so good this year. Because he hit a couple of 3's against a bad UCF team in the AAC tourney. Shaq's only two games in the NCAA tourney he was our best option. you keep saying there has been nothing to show shaq will be our best player, I'm just curious why you think KJ has....

shaq's shot is flat-if it touches any part of the rim it's not going in- k.j/ cobb/caupain/sanders all have enough arc on their shot jut like some of our best players of past years logan/ field w./durden/van exel- we have never had a good shooter with a shot as flat as shaq's

really like how as a freshman he stepped into big situations and took shots without hesitation. He also got to the rim and as you said got some shots blocked but he drew contact and on two occasions stepped to the line and knocked down FT's as a freshman. The arrow is pointing up on his game. Not only has he got talent but he showed the game is not to big for him at crunch time. His overall game in my opinion is better then Shaq right now. Trust me I hope Shaq has a great year but I really don't see it unless he develops physically and spends time perfecting his overall game. He has had 3 years to do so and he hasn't made much progress. Again I'm sure the staff has thrown down the challenge to him it's up to him to put the time in. His game needs work and I'm not so sure he has what it takes mentally to put in the work to get it done. KJ in my opinion plays with much more intensity. Lots harder to continue to grind when your playing behind SK and your min.are limited. When watching the two I always had the impression KJ played much harder. Guys that play hard without the ball in their hands are the guys I want playing on my team. KJ reminds me of that kind of player. He also has skills.

Shaq probably has the best mid range jumper on the team, even though it is sort of a line drive shot. You are right, however, that he shouldn't be shooting a lot of 3s. He did a nice job last year of picking his spots and only shooting 3s when they were open.

The trajectory of his jumper is not what has me concerned about his game. He doesn't finish around the rim and he doesn't draw fouls. He is best going to the hoop off the break. His handles need work as well. He doesn't board well and his defense needs work. In order to be the type off difference maker everyone wants him to be he needs about 20lbs of workable weight. Everyone keeps going back to the two NCAA games where he made some mid range jumpers. In those games the opostition was not geared to stop him. And please understand this if we average 10 more points a game team wise offensively but give up 15 more we will not be having a good season. If we score moere points it doesn't mean we can give up more if we want to improve on last years finish. As long as Mick is here our trademark will be as a tough defensive minded team. If you don't want to play defense don't come to Cincy. Your not going to win games consistently by trying to out score your opponents. There will be nights where the shot isn't falling but defense should be there every night. It is effort and attitude. If Shaq is to transition into the player we al hope he can become he will need to put in a lot of work on both ends of the floor.

Per @KevinMcNamara33 Antoine Mason will finish up his visit to Providence today. 2 day visit. Looks like Friars or Auburn. #pcbb

Is that what you were looking for?

If I'm not mistaking Shaq had one of the best if not best field goal % around rim on team. He might avoids contact but he finishes at a respectable rate.

His coach on more then one occassion has made it a point to mention his lack of fininshing around the rim or getting to the line. It appears some people's view of respectable and Micks are in contrast.
