I don't envy Mick right now. Trying to keep all these guys happy with minutes is going to be a challenge. Sounds like a great problem to have.

We have seen some pretty solid play from KJ, ST, JE, FC, and TC. Those are the top 5 scorers on the team with Shaq and KJ unexpectedly at the top. If Jenifer is going to see any more than back up PG minutes he's going to have to move someone out or over (assuming Troy stays on the court with Jenifer some times) . Someone mentioned earlier we might see ST playing a few minutes as a small 4 and I am starting to believe it could happen. Ellis with 4 guards/wings.

If that is the case I could potentially see a red shirt happening at the 4 since Clark will get the lion's share there. The question would be...would we even want to red shirt.

A few weks ago, I was thinking Moore as a no-brainer to redshirt, but hell, he has been looking better and better. He has a sweet looking shot this year. His playing time seems to be on the increase.

No one will redshirt. Initially I thought Scott would be a candidate but we need both him and Moore to back up Clark. Neither are consistently good enough to separate themselves.

Personally I think we might see DeBerry and Ellis at times which means effectively DeBerry/Ellis is the primary back up to Clark. In other cases we may want to run small with Shaq giving you another option as a back up. Clark is already going to take almost 3/4ths of the minutes.

Do we really need both Moore and Scott to give minutes? Will either be more effective than ST or CD?

Terry Nelson said on "Sports of All Sorts" last night with Ken Broo that Justin Jenifer will lead the AAC in assists off the bench for Cincinnati.

Did he mean lead bench players in assists? He's still unlikely to lead this team in assists. Troy will get more in 30 minutes than Jenifer will get in 5-10.

I mean even in exhibition games when Jenifer got more minutes than he'll see in the regular season, Troy still had 8 to Jenifers 4.

Can you really count on Moore for an entire season based on 1 game? You have no idea what Scott can give you for an entire season either.

I don't agree with this part. Everyone on this team has completely bought in as far as I can tell. And the young guys will get plenty of minutes in early non conference games, since we'll likely be up by a lot, and Mick wants to keep his veterans fresh for the long haul. By the time the rotation shortens, it will be evident where the minutes will go. I think our depth is a very positive thing in every aspect.

I can't count on Moore yet. Imo we need these guys to both get minutes this year. No reason to spread ourselves too thin, especially with a few unproven bench players.

If DeBerry and Shaq are going to get minutes in those roles, they both have to be better rebounders. If Shaq plays like he has been so far, I like the idea of a straight Shaq+Evans combo at the 3 and just leave it at that.

He must have, no way Jenifer is going to lead the conference in assists this year.

One game? No your counting the 1000's of other games he looked good in? Are you basing a game worth of minutes saying he's no good? I said last year he should've played more minutes last year and come tournament time he's not scared.

He said it in the context that I posted. He said that he could lead the league in assists in a non-starting role. I guess it shows that Jenifer has impressed more than just Bulldog and myself. He didn't have a great game on Saturday, so we'll see what happens starting Friday. I agree, it sounds unrealistic, but we'll see where his minutes go now that the season is officially starting.

He earned the minutes he got. He didn't look that good even in the exhibition, he just happened to make a few of his shots. He shot every time he touched the ball without ever looking to pass and his defense and rebounding was still pretty poor.

Or it shows he's smoking the same stuff. While it'd be great if he led the conference in assists I don't see how on earth that will happen. Plus, these first two exhibition games the teams have been applying pressure on him when he has the ball. Once they realize he isn't much of a threat to score from the outside they are going to soften up take his penetration away.

I believe he will be a threat from outside. He is shooting quite a bit, and Mick doesn't seem to be going crazy when he launches them. I can only assume that he must be making enough of them in practice for Mick to be OK with him shooting.

I'd like for Jenifer to be no higher than 6th on the team in 3PT FGA. AST/40 minutes is where he needs to shine this year imo.

DeBerry is not bad. Per 40 minutes last year he was 3rd on the team. About 10 for each Ellis and Clark and about 8 for DeBerry. Moore was around 5 which was also less than Shaq per 40 minutes at 5.5.

I think coach mentioned they would play Deberry and Ellis together some. So let's say Clark gets 27.5 minutes. DeBerry gets 5. Maybe we run small for 2.5 minutes per game. That would leave 5 minutes at the 4 spot. Someone is going to get buried.

I think the next few games will determine who that is
