He shot 3-8 from 3 against X, that's not horrible. And that includes like you said, a couple bad shots when he was trying to force things (and I think he had one as the shot clock expired).

He also hit a meaningless one at the very end when Xavier wasn't even guarding b/c the game was over.

True, though I like the sound of losing by 10 better than 13.

Either way, he is UC's best outside shooter. It'd be nice if he didn't have to force up shots but in this offense, he does. Another reason why I'd love them to play faster pace, it creates more space for the outside shooters.

He also doesn't have to drive the ball into a baseline double team which he did at least 3 times Saturday. I do agree he has the best stroke on the team.

He's has the worst 3-pt percentage on the team. He's 2-17 in the last 2 games, and 28% for the season. Why is he even taking 17 3s in two games. A point guard is supposed to have other skills, and the ability to make the players around him better. When your shot isn't falling, do something else. If you can't do anything else, then you shouldn't be running the show.

I agree with Jacob. He's a good player and definitely should be a starter, but he's out of place as a PG. I guess we'll find out what Jenifer can do in 2017 or 2018 down at US Bank Arena.

Dude were 10 games in, you realize Caupain was the best 3pt % in American conference last year that returned to play this year?

This is about this year, not last year. If prior years meant anything, the Reds would not have let Sam LeCure spend this season in the "Minor" leagues at Louisville. Kudos to him for being a good shooter last year. The stats say he isn't very good this year.

Caupain was very selective last year, averaging 2.2 3 PT attempts per game and 2.9 per 40 minutes. This year he is at 5.2 per game and 7.2 per 40 minutes. Seems like the volume has hurt his %. 10 games in he has taken 24 less 3s than he did in 34 games last year. I think he'll shake out of it and be ok, but the high number of 40.8% doesn't really seem to be his true %. Obviously he's still better than 2-17 though and should still have a green light. But 9 out of 10 FG attempts being from 3 is not the right # for Caupain.

Only having to players on team able to play above rim is killing us. This team lacks athletes. Jenifer, cobb, kj, Caupain and Evans need help on wings.

from Rothsteins' tidbits....

• Cincinnati's Gary Clark is averaging 12.0 points and 8.6 rebounds this season in guarantee games, but just 5.3 points and 7.0 rebounds when the Bearcats have played George Washington, Nebraska, Butler, and Xavier. Mick Cronin's squad (9-2) needs their sophomore power forward to provide more offense if they're going to beat the better teams on their schedule.

A formidable low post presence can really open up the perimeter to where our guards have an extra second to set their feet and make some open shots.

We currently have 4 players averaging double figures. And 2 others at 7.9+. Pretty nice overall improvement.

Turnovers per 40 Minutes (season)
Troy Caupain - 1.67
Farad Cobb - 1.74
Gary Clark - 1.8

- Small sample sizes for DeBerry, Moore, and Jenifer obviously.
- Considering how much Caupain handles the ball, it's good to see his rate is low.

Your missing Evans...the lowest on the team
He's also our best FT shooter by far. Dude is solid for a frosh...kid can hoop!

Our two losses are becoming less and less hard to take. X could move up to top 6 and Butler beat #9 Purdue. Their only loss to a top 15 Miami squad.

If we pull out that Butler win we are borderline top 10 right now. I still think we are around a top 15 team but we are lacking a stud to put us in the elite category.

If you go on ESPN and look at our team statistics they don't have Evans as well.... Poor kid is having a good freshman year and not getting credit for it

I like how he played almost 30 minutes against VCU. I'm starting to like the idea of him backing up both Thomas AND Cobb. I also like Deberry backing up both Ellis and Clark (the expedition ).

I just hope Jenifer can work his way in to spot Troy for 10 minutes. It doesn't look likely but Troy is going to be exhausted at the end of the season!

Some of my biggest surprises in this young season so far.

Cobb...almost 50% from 3
Ellis...1 technical I think?
Troy...assist to turnover ratio
Evans...93% from the line
Shaq...finally changed arc on shot

I think if deberry didn't get in foul trouble you would have seen some deberry and Ellis in the game, but since both of them were in foul trouble we had to play quadri, ideally they would like to play shaq at the 4 when Clark is not in and Evans obviously at the 3

I agree with jenifer though he should be getting 10 mins a game. Really the only head scratcher I have with the team right now. I know caupain is our best guard, but I think Jenifer is good too and caupain needs to rest.

but I think Jenifer is good too and caupain needs to rest.

I think if the really bad shots go away, the minutes might go up. For a pass first PG, Jenifer is super greedy on offense, he hasn't found a shot he doesn't like. That's a problem.

This has exactly been what my issue is with him. I love his skill set but he has been very stupid on the court, tough shots when he is yet to be a great shooter and overplaying going for steals on d. Its cost us alot in games vs better competition.
