He already is special!
agreed. The game certainly doesn't seem to big for him. Love the way he mixes it up with them Biggs. Would like him to cut down on TO's and get to the rim or draw a foul a bit more. He has been lights out from the foul line. I really think as a true freshman his game is very comparable to SK's. He will be fun to watch grow over the years.

Agree with all that except turnovers. ..he's best on the team per 40 minutes. Would love to see more driving though.

By the way. ..i checked 3 of these stats today. Evans would rank 6th nationally with Caupain and Cobb both ranked in the 20s somewhere. I'm not sure Evans is qualified but he can't be far off. Evans is also leading the team in turnovers per 40 minutes. He's going to be special.
to this point in the season a most pleasant developement is how much Ellis has grown mentally. Fully expected opponents to try to get him distracted mentally but he has really done well keeping his focus on the task at hand. After suffering through some extremely tough circumstances he has shown growth as a player and person. Bringing him back and helping him get to this point may be one of Mick's greatest accomplishments.

Yes...so far it's been a nice surprise. I hope it continues and he can get drafted. It would be a great story!

getting beyond wins and losses is a issue for most people but stories like this are really what athletics should be about. Especially at the college level down.

This has exactly been what my issue is with him. I love his skill set but he has been very stupid on the court, tough shots when he is yet to be a great shooter and overplaying going for steals on d. Its cost us alot in games vs better competition.
Pair of lips a say anything

I think Evans game is most comparable to Lance's as a freshman but less me more team. Can't go quite as hard to the rim but has a better stroke from outside. Evans absolutely could play guard.

was about say same thing. He step up from sk. Sk only could shoot until he was SR

the less me more team is exactly why he reminds me more of SK. Lance was more talented then either Evans or SK especially as a freshman. Lance was marking time here. They didn't call him Born ready for nothing.

Lowest PER of rotation players last 5 years:

2013-14 Lawrence 5.5
2013-14 Guyn 6.9
2014-15 KJ 10.0
2011-12 Mbodji 10.3
2012-13 Sanders 11.4
2015-16 KJ 11.4

I think Allen Crabbe would be my comp for Jacob Evans. He doesn't quite score like Alec Burks at this point.

Last 2 games Caupain has 10 FT attempts in 71 minutes.

In the previous 4 games, he had 9 FT attempts in 135 minutes.

He reminds me some of Francisco Garcia from Louisville. A 2/3 with good size and strength but not a tremendous raw athlete.

I think you're on the same page with me in that I don't care about raw athleticism anymore. I don't think ISU athletically overwhelmed the 'Cats at any point, nor did Butler or even X. They have guys that play under control and can dribble and shoot. Perfect scenario would be a hybrid roster that has some of both. Evans, Jenifer and Cumberland next year are getting us closer to a good balance.

A starting 5 next year of Caupain, Evans, Cumberland, Clark and Washington will be as skilled offensively as Mick has had. The concern, like this year, is where does the toughness come from? It will have to be from Johnson, Scott and Brooks. I'd assume we are going to try to add a JUCO wing who can provide some of that too.

Every time I saw Washington play he was plenty tough. Johnson, Scott, and Brooks will be coming off the bench and not sure how much PT they will grab, so it probably won't matter how tough he is. Caupain better be tough next year.

Jacob Evans vs. Shaq Thomas

If Mick does not start Jacob Evans over Shaq Thomas in our next game I will be very disappointed. I trust Mick, but how can you possibly believe we are a more efficient basketball team with Shaq over Evans? The start of our games are awful. We know what Evans will give us. He gives us somebody with an ability to stretch the defense with his shooting. He gives us a player that can break down the defense and convert. (Either in traffic or at the line) And he has shown an ability to rebound and block shots because he has good size.

Shaq Thomas
Shaq is an extremely athletic player. He is good in transition and good defensively. BUT, he is also good at bringing an invisibility cloak because 75% of the time he is on the floor, he is non-existent. I just feel Shaq coming off the bench is a much safer bet for Mick to make. Shaq is a really nice kid and he plays hard. But if I were the head coach and my job depended on if I won my next game....Jacob Evans would be in my starting lineup for that game.
