2015 General Recruiting

Here's what it boils down to for some members. They will talk up the current class but give Mick zero credit for their commitments. Then turn around and blast him for not landing top 50 type recruits. Can't have it both ways. If your talking up Jenifer, Evans and Scott as impact players and very good future college players shouldn't Mick get some credit for recruiting them?

Yeah I'm with you. I don't think we need to even be Top 200, but maybe just not bottom 10.

Did you look and see who else was in the bottom 10 in adjusted tempo? Wisconsin, Virginia, Wyoming and Northern Iowa, with UC, SDST, ODU and Utah in the bottom 25. All of those teams had great seasons. The point is, whether or not Mick's drag-it-out system is pretty (I'll admit it's not at times), it is unquestionably effective - and will be even more so with a 30 second shot clock.

Nobody took anything away from any of them recruits. I'm calling Mick out on striking out this spring when he talked about landing surprise stud. Mick already got congratulated for them recruits in fall, were sitting with 2 open scholarships at a top 20 program. when you consider we've always had a player or two ineligible, transfer, or get injured our margin for error once again a be slim. I sure would've loved to land a player that could give me 20 on any giving night.

EVERY owner, coach and agent are AGAINST this style of play.

Anyone want to talk about recruiting and who is available?

Here are some big men still available

Dwight coleby- he is leaving ole miss. Would sit out a year and have 2 years left. I would be happy to have him

Bollo gnahore- seems like a raw senior coming out of high school. Seems more like a low major work in progress

Kyle washington- he visited Marquette so bearcattalk confirmed he is not coming

Paschal chukwu- transfer from providence. Seems like he has all the big dogs after him. Therefor not coming.

John Carlos Reyes- another senior in high school. I saw Kansas stare and South Carolina want him. Not sure if mick would go after him.

Rashid gaston - transferring from Norfolk. Looks like a scorer. He would sit out and have one year.

Anyone else know anything? Looks like we are running out of options

As far as I know your first 4 are possible

If we could somehow land both Coleby and Washington, we would be in great shape for 2016-17 and 2017-18 in the front court. I will gladly settle for one of the two though.

I Hope the staff looks at gaston. 16 points and 9 rebounds a game. I believe he is from north east Ohio and had 18 double doubles last year

I'm not sure what any of what you just wrote has anything to do with my response to you. You said recruits won't want to go to a school ranked 340th in possessions. Yet they go to schools that play even slower. What you said just simply isn't true.

Using your logic, tradition, facilities, conference, don't play into recruiting either since there are top recruits that ignore those aspects. See how that works?

Pace absolutely effects recruiting.

Quit using such hyperbole. Most here just want recruiting to improve and the vast majority are still happy with Mick as the coach. I'd love for you to find me one person on here who has talked up the current class but gave Mick zero credit for it. Will you? Of course you also said you wouldn't post on here anymore and here you are. Pick one.

Exactly! In terms of players, facilities and conference, Mick has pretty much maxed out what the program can be (not a shot, just real). In order to take it up a notch the recruiting and facilities need improvement. That is really what all of us (who apparently ran off some people) are saying. Maybe the 2015 class will change things, who knows. While next season should be enjoyable, missing out on adding another impact player leaves us with the same ceiling we've had the past 5 years and that is the Sweet 16. Teams that play our style with our talent have historically fared the same.

kids these days like the bling. Oregon gets guys from all over county to come up there off uniforms and speed of game alone. you have to spend money to make money.

Sounds like he has high motor. I'll take shot at ANYBODY from Ohio right now.

Quit using such hyperbole. QUOTE]

In general I agree with the hyperbole needing to be toned down in here. Making grandiose and absolute statements about issues that have so many different variables to consider is just going to unnecessarily stir the pot.

If all you have is hyperbole...you don't have much. Hyperbole often screams to me that the person is not likely to rationally discuss or consider all the variables involved in the subject. There is no reason to use hyperbole if you have a strong argument with facts and evidence.

I AM ALWAYS RIGHT...AND UC IS THE GREATEST BASKETBALL PROGRAM IN HISTORY

He is from the same HS as the Culver kid in '17 that we just offered isn't he? Sounds like he tore his ACL in 13-14, but played 18 games. How much eligibility does he have left?

I think maybe Mick became scorned when guys like Scotty Hopson, Thabeet, Willie Warren, Behanan, Walker, etc all chose to go elsewhere. The quality of the program has gone up a ton but the number of top recruits that are interested (not necessarily committing) has gone down.
