Questions are how info gets shared and people gain knowledge. I'm typically good for answering anything that isn't directly related to a recruit being covered on BCJ. More available today because I'm home sick, hopped up on cold meds and bored out of my mind...
Chad I do respect your VIP policy.

Hmm, interesting, thank you.

I assume our relative success in the NY area for a long time is due to the fact they have an overage of recruits to bid on?

Savino is from the area and played for Bob Hurley at St Anthony's so he is pretty well connected up there. Mick also has a lot of ties in NYC so they have different angles they can work...

It's a tough way to operate IMO. A lot of times those AAU guys end up being good for 1 or 2 players and you end up having a bench assistant that can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. End result is a revolving door on staff and it can create a bad dynamic in the program as the kids aren't stupid and know you went out of your way to placate them. It is a method that fails far more often than it works from my experience.

A guy like Kenyon would be great, but very few 15 year NBA guys are wanting to work 70 hour weeks with a boat load of time on the road. NBA jobs are much more up their alley...

Any inside knowledge to Kenyon specifically? I can try and find the podcast, but it was late last year in the NBA season, he talked for couple minutes about UC, and one day maybe being a head coach, and how special it would be to coach at UC.

His coaching comments are in the last 3 minutes:

Most of us think you do a pretty darn good job. I'm not going to hit you up for insider stuff. I would pay for it but I'm not sure I trust myself with the information...lol!

Love that you brought up Butler before they got a golden ticket. Let's look at the core of those two Final 4 teams.

Matt Howard 2 star
Ronald Nored 3 star
Shelvin Mack 3 star
Gordon Hayward 2 star on Scout 3 star on Rivals

They didn't land a 4 star until 2012. Want to guess what happened around that time?

Want me to make it worse with a look at Wichita State???

I'm glad you bring that up. Maybe my fault for not reading all the preceding posts but are we talking about 5 star recruits vs good players? A good coach has an eye for talent beyond what star rating a particular recruiting service chooses to put on them. I'm not so much interested in a recruits ranking since none of that really matters until they hit the court.

I'm interested in a coaches ability to recruit good players who can play within their system.

With all that I've heard and read...I know in my heart we can recruit better with more success. I don't care about conference affiliation so much as I care about program success.

Found this interesting. A break down of 4/5 star recruits by conference.

To emphasize last tweet. 4/5 star recruits by conference Pac 12 (23), ACC (15), Big East/SEC (13), B1G (12), Big XII (10), AAC (2), A10 (3)
That can't be right. The entire ACC has 15 4 or 5 star freshman? And our conference has 2?

Some Bracketology thing I looked at had us as a 6 seed. If we get a huge win (Duke), or overachieve by a little bit, getting a seed like that isn't completely out of the question.

I don't think we have to overachieve at all to get a 6-seed. We're preseason 25 and 26 in the polls, right? That put us at a 7/almost 6 seed. I'd consider overachieving a 4 or 5, whereas disappointing would be a 9 or 10. A 6-seed wouldn't shock me one bit.

I was talking to Jason about getting a 4 seed when I said that.

Rothstein's 68 things to watch this season

http://www.fanragsports.com/cbb/68-things-look-forward-2016-17-college-basketball-season/

16. The healthy rivalry between UConn and Cincinnati

How close have things been between these two teams? The Huskies have outscored the Bearcats 565-564 in the nine combined games that the two programs have played since the creation of the American Athletic Conference.

26. Mick Cronin

Cronin has quietly led his alma mater to six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and a seventh seems very much in the cards. Cincinnati should be better than they’ve been offensively thanks to the addition of NC State transfer Kyle Washington and the growth of sophomore wing Jacob Evans.

Man, Rothstein really loves UC. Not saying that's a bad thing, it's actually great he talks about us so much, just seems like every piece he writes includes a UC tidbit lol

Apparently season ticket sales are up about 10% from last year and are at a high under Cronin. Mini plan sales are up about 20%. There seems to be some buzz over the program. I hope we have a great season and keep up the momentum.

Not sure if anyone posted this any where but it looks like we have 3 walk on players this year. Mick just added John Koz a 6'1 freshman from Cleveland. Averaged 21 PPG his senior year playing DII ball. Quarterbacked for their football team as well. This now means we have 3 white guys on our "roster" lol.

Good news... Rhode island would be a big win to help gain some steam. We need to get some swagger going and the confidence to win tough games. Every year is the year that it's time to raise the bar.

Lots of fans talk about players taking the next step. What will our coach do this year to raise his performance level?

What do you want Mick to do? Just curious because I hear this stuff all the time but I never hear specifics. I can name 10 things Tuberville could/should do and it has zero to do with play calling/offense. It's pretty much all personnel decisions or stupid things he has said off the field, or decisions around taking knees, kicking FGs, or going on 4th down. Curious what you think.
