Cumberland

Really can't see them signing both Williams and McNeil

Yeah knowing Epperson is still a target makes that seem clear. I wonder if we'd look for a transfer PF this spring if Epperson doesn't work out. Kind of risky, but we'd still have the 2018 class to find soneone if that didn't work...but it'd kind of have to be an instant impact guy.

That's probably the plan. I also wouldn't be surprised if Nsoseme redshirted to put on some bulk.

Man, I want Epperson all the way. I hope our coaches go all out for him. That would be too sweet.

I guess we can all agree epperson we all want then I personally want Gaines or Williams. Wouldnt be mad if it was McNeil. We can't forget about JP Moorman.

Reese probably out of the picture

getting a grad transfer at PF will be difficult. We have Clark and Scott there. Really think people are going to be very surprised with Scott. Will be in better position to land a PF when Clark is a senior. Either way it looks like we have the 5 locked up for a few years and with Cumberland and Moore we could also have the 2 and 3 even if Evans did leave early. I'd say finding a PG and PF will be priorities a year from now. Lots to like about the direction of the program. Could end up in P5, upgraded facilities and the team seems well positioned to have a nice run with what we have signed for at least next two years. Mick and Team just need to get it done on the floor to put the last piece of the puzzle in place.

I'm not talking about a grad transfer.

Serious question...looking at the 2017 class so far, what coach here wouldn't be able to bring in guys at least as good as Moore and Nsoseme? We might round out the class with more highly thought of players, but what we have so far is nothing special.

Serious answer. Staff is adding pieces to the team that they feel will augment the rest of the players on the roster. We have a very good rim protector and a wing that many thought was a steal after seeing him in the summer eval period. More then that they fit in with what we have going forward. I'm looking for a very nice run from the cats this year and with the parts added and returning we should be very good the year after that. We also have room to add players to improve from that point.

Jake your and my view of the program are apparently different. Recruiting 4 year players, watching them grow and mature into true student athletes is much more enjoyable for me then what Calipari and staff provide. If I wanted that kind of team I would be a Kentucky fan. If you have other expectations I'm fine with that. I enjoy the team, follow them daily and go to every game I get a chance to . For me Mick runs a very good program and if he didn't I wouldn't invest my time following them. I appreciate what he has been able to provide for me in the way of entertainment. He inherited a mess and has built it back to a respectable level. I'm quite aware that others have much higher expectations. Certainly they have that right.

As far as how special they will be remains to be seen. Again lots of moving parts for me. Graduation rates, how they represent themselves and the University in the community, on court success and what they do with their education after they leave are all things that matter to me. If it was just about winning basketball games I probably would not care nearly as much about the program. I think Mick, his Staff and the Players are very good at providing the things that are important to me.

I don't want to be like Kentucky. That's not my expectation at all. We definitely see things differently if you believe that's the only step from where we're at. I get that we recruit 4 year players. I'm just not sure how people can act like no other coach can do what Cronin does. We competed with no one for the players we've landed so far in 2017. Any coach would be able to bring these guys in. That's all I'm saying in this particular conversation. No need to go super deep on expectations and all that. We've beat that to death and you continue to ignore what I have to say on the subject bc you always comes back with the Kentucky thing even though ive said a million times that I don't expect that.

How do you know? Did you watch and scout them, or just google their names looking for rankings?

It's too early for me to be jolly or upset about this class. Would I like to see us landing guys in the Top 100? Of course; don't be silly. That just seems like a pretty harsh comment when I can't imagine you've even seen either one of our commits play in-person. Give it time before you decide that these guys are "nothing special".

Jake you can not have it both ways. If any coach could do it how is he winning 20 games every year and making the tournament. Does every team do that???? His results may not meet your standards but they are not run of the mill. I do not ignore your comment I don't agree with some of them. NOT EVERY COACH COULD HAVE ACCOMPLUISHED WHAT COACH CRONIN HAS> Now if that doesn't satisfy the entire fan base I'm fine with that. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and how they spend their time and money. And Jake one thing I have learned concerning message boards such as this without debate or disagreements the traffic would be nil.

jake I never said you wanted to be like Kentucky. I said I don't want to be like Kentucky. I have no idea what you expect out of the program. you tell me..

We have 10 years worth of these kind of players as evidence. I guess one could become another SK. But that seems like the exception.

While we do not have a bunch of players in the NBA we do have many playing overseas and walking out of here with degrees.

We also haven't won multiple postseason games in any of the past 4 seasons.

Finish the class strong and I'll be content. Williams or McNeill is a must.

Winning more tournament games would make me make me happier as well. I don't think we will land both because of the numbers we have at those positions but landing one is a possibility.

I'm actually "Ok" with the recruiting. Just like BearcatNation I would obviously like to see us bring in more consensus top 100 guys. When I look at the current roster I am satisfied with the talent on paper. When Cumberland is in the game at the 2 we will have 4 top 100 players in the lineup. The only one who wasnt a top 100 player will be Caupain and he may picked for preseason 1st team by some coaches. Gary and Jacob have more than proved they were underrated coming out of high school as they were fringe top 100 prospects. I think Moore fits that mold. So I think the "We have nothing special" line is a little premature but I understand what you are saying. My bigger problem is Cronin and his staff being unable to translate the talent they have and cultivate into results in March. I am extremely proud of the job that he has done over the last 10 years given all the challenges he has faced. However the program has been reestablished and it's time to stop being the little engine that could and retake our place as one of college basketball's elite. New arena is coming, new conference is coming, more money is coming, and there is already a lot in place to sell. Better players is supposed to equal better results. If this group fails to produce at a high level I am not sure Mick and his staff are the group to get us to where we want to go. They were definitely the group to dig us out of the hole but I have some real concerns moving forward after 10 years.

Nice post. I think the next few years are critical. It seems like we peaked a few years ago after the sweet sixteen and some high rankings. Unfortunately, the 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes ended up offering very little, which really hurt. Think we need to see a sweet sixteen and some 6 or better NCAA Tournament seeds soon, or I'll be getting very skeptical.

As important as making the tournament is, you don't want to keep making it as an 8 or 9. Makes it very tough to make any sort of run. In a down year, sure, but we can do better.

Jack agree with your post. I really like the roster this year. I actually liked it last year as well but I have to agree the close losses really put a damper on my season. Like you I think Mick has done a fine job but with all the money we are spending on enhancements,P5, etc... Going forward I have no problem setting the bar a bit higher. We have a good collection of talent over the next two seasons. One and done in March will not cut it.
