And as far as Mick, I hate the narrative we only made it this far, we still had one of the longest streaks of making the tourney in the NCAA. Mick may not me a “great” coach but he is a very good one. Now that he is at UCLA and getting stud recruits, he will make a run. I wish we could have kept him, but he decided to leave, time to move on.

He "left" because Mike Bohn wouldn't extend his deal and instead offered him an effective pay cut.

This was all highly preventable.

Yeah, that's bs. I've been one of Brannen's biggest supporters all along. I was also never a very big Mick fan. I'm surprised you don't remember that from the old BCN days. (PS What happened to your boy the thegreatone?)

I'm sorry, but if people aren't looking at what's going on right now and are ticked off then I guess they're just a lot more positive and accepting than me.

I see little to no hope moving forward this coach. He's a lame duck.

I remember... I would assume lurking.

According to 247 vt did offer

They offered him in April 2020, but they backed off at some point after the offer. Happens all the time for various reasons. Maybe they got a guy who fill the role they were recruiting him for. Maybe they just saw something they didn't like. All I know is a month ago they weren't still in on him.

This quote was actually from Cincruz on this thread, just a few pages back.

Bryson Spell, less than a month ago. “Cincinnati, and Arizona State are recruiting me the hardest right now. Pitt, Texas A&M, Creighton, Georgia Tech, Davidson, College of Charleston, New Mexico, and Maryland have had interest from some time now and have been keeping up with my season so far.”

But like you said it can happen for all kinds of reasons, maybe some of those teams backed off because they saw he had more interest in other programs and didn’t see a chance at landing him. But for your narrative it’s because he wasn’t as good or it was in some way his fault.

My narrative is that from what we can tell, we are the highest major school that offered him and was still pursuing him.

Maybe ASU, Pitt and others never offered him because they knew they couldn't beat out an imploding UC program. Who knows.

My guess is he is seeing all the transfers and knows he better get on a team before spots start to fill up. He gave up waiting on and hoping for a high major offer and took the best offer available.

Your narrative was that we won't get any recruits because they're going to hear all of the minor details about how our previous players left the program, including time of day, passthrough cities, and mode of transportation.

How about we chill with spinning narratives and being mad at other fans for what they think. Let's just analyze the situation as it unfolds.

I never said that we won't get recruits, just that we won't be getting high quality ones. Guys like Spell who's options are UC or a mid-major are probably going to choose UC. But a 4-star seems unlikely unless they've got a ton of baggage.

I think recruits care about their self. If they think they can get minutes at a good school, they will do it. I don’t think it will affect recruiting as much as we think.

Chad has indicated there are two recruits in the works. One (that Corryville carl also referred to) that we've been working on for a while and are waiting/hoping for it to become official.

The commit today is someone else though and seems to have been sudden, as Chad said it's going to take a while for the announcement because they have to get everything ready (pictures and such I'd assume).

Seeing as Spell met virtually with Brannen last night, speculation is he is todays commit. Brannen may not have been expecting him to commit immediately post meeting.

It's also quite possible that Spell is the one in the works and someone else is todays surprise commit. There are various other options for who that could be, but no one obvious, which is why people have been mostly guessing Spell.

It's nice that (if its Spell) we're getting a player to sign up for what we all know is a very bad roster situation at the moment, but it doesn't get me excited at all. Recruiting can have 4 stars that flop like Q Moore, but overall, I'm not pumped for a guy who MAYBE has 2 other major offers, at most. We're not beating out anyone for him.

Unless he's our 4/5th most promising incoming player, I don't think I'm going to like the next few years.

I feel like everyone is trying to hit a solo homerun when we are down by 10. We need a lot of players. I get we want all studs but that’s not going to happen. Spell looks like a good piece to me. We just had the same arguments about mason and Saunders. Is the guy a savior? Prob not but looks like he can play a little bit. Don’t understand the hate for spell
