AAC Conference Play

The key to our season is to keep winning. The way everybody is losing games this year is absolutely crazy. Duke is not in the Top 25 after winning the title last year. UNC got knocked off last night. If we keep getting it done one game at a time we can erase a lot of missteps from early in the year.

Brimah was the conference's DPOY last year. UConn is already #4 in adjusted defensive efficiency. He's going to make them better at protecting the rim. Offensively he isn't post threat but you know he is good for one or two lob dunks from Hamilton.

I get what you're saying and agree with it to an extent, but...UConn played a lot of pack line (vis a vi Xavier) against us and we did a pretty effective job of playing inside out basketball. I felt like our guys had good position at the rim many times and lost the handle or got blocked by committee. Won't happen as much with Brimah. UConn also employed a lot of 3 guard (or 4 if you include Purvis who took 17 shots) which they'll have a tougher time doing if they want to employ Brimah.

My point is not that Brimah doesn't make them better, it just changes the game in ways that alter UConn's path to victory. A lot of the ways they were effective against UC (guards) will change. They'll also have to rely on our guards having another off shooting night. If Caupain, Cobb and Johnson don't go 8-28 (many of them wide open looks generated by, gasp, an effectively run offense), UC wins that game by 10-15 points. Will they be as good an outlet team with Brimah on the floor? All that's up in the air.

Pretty sure Pastner is sitting Burrell in the Memphis game. Rumors say he went off in the locker room and Pastner said no player is bigger than the program.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Pastner is probably out after this season. I mean last year Shaq Goodwin's mom was calling him out on facebook...LOL.

UConn is dominating Memphis. This has me worried because its just more motivation for Memphis when they play us. Burrell being punished tonight...he will come out with a purpose on Saturday. That is such a big game for us, it has me worried.

Is Burrell even going to be back? Memphis might be finished. We should beat them.

I really hope he stays punished. But, with him being a senior, I don't see Pastner sitting him anymore than tonight. I'm just worried about them getting embarrassed tonight. They won't take another loss like that at home, especially to us.

Memphis confirmed, Burrell will be back for our game, of course. But NTS, you're correct about keeping Memphis off the foul line. That's how Memphis a lot of their points in the first half. UConn did a much better job playing solid D the second half without fouling.
Memphis also had 20 turnovers which obviously hurt them. I hope we turn up the defensive pressure on them.

3 games tonight:

Tulane @ ECU
Memphis @ Houston
Tulsa @ SMU

UConn @ Temple is tomorrow.

We gotta have a 2-0 week this week obviously. Tulsa plays @ UConn this weekend...then we play @ Tulsa Thursday and vs UConn next Saturday. We might start seeing some separation over the next few games.

Thanks Jake. the race is heating up. hope the Cats are up to the challenge.

Looks like @Houston and @Tulsa may be tougher than we originally thought. We know UConn and SMU will be tough. We have to take 3 out of 4 of those and it would be nice for one of them to be SMU (hopefully ranked).

Damn, I think finally SMU is wearing down. Our luck will be, SMU won't even be ranked when they play us at home and it won't be a good quality win like we need it to be.

Who cares? I hope SMU keeps losing and we win the conference.
