American Conference Tournament Set

POY could have been a toss up for Smith, Napier or Killa. That's what happens when your league has 3 all american guards. I don't think I can honestly say any of those guys deserved it more than the other. It's a toss up so I don't think it's anything to get too upset about. If you're just going on pure numbers alone I think Napier wins out over Smith and Killa. Crazy stat regarding Napier, he led UConn in assists, steals, points and rebounds this season. That's pretty damn impressive.

I'm very surprised that Cronin got COY, good for him!!! He definitely deserves it for the job he did this season. I thought for sure Larry Brown was going to win considering his name and the national media attention he's received lately. While he would have been a worthy recipient I don't think he deserved it as much as Cronin.

Congrats to SK and JJ for their awards. Great year for the Cats and for the first time in a long time we'll get to add another number to our All-American wall at 5/3rd.

Napier's team underachieved and Smith had the help of arguably the 4th best player in the conference. SK outplayed both in the 8 games against the top competition and he carried his team to a surprising 1st place finish. I thought it was an easy choice, but I'm not upset about it. I love how this team plays when they feel slighted. SK could go off in Memphis!

We all know that the POY or the MVP doesn't always go to the best player on the best team. For anyone to act like SK got robbed or that he was a clear favorite to win the award is not looking at it rationally and just being a pure homer. Which is fine, we're all homers, the homer in me wanted SK to win it too.

You can make a legit case for any of the 3 to win that award and I wouldn't have argued any of them.

UCBearcats I agree, I was always taught to Cheer for my team not against the opponent. While i'm disappointed that SK didn't win I won't bad mouth Napier. He had a very good year.

Of course he didn't get robbed. The other two guys are All-American candidates. I just thought he did more win less and played even better in the bigger games than the other two. I thought Mick winning COY was even more surprising though.

I'm fine with Shabazz winning it. Obviously I thought SK should have but as long as it wasn't Assdiculous i was gonna be fine. I was surprised by Cronin winning too, i would have put money on it that it was gonna be Larry Brown. But big props to MC!

If you asked me before the second UConn game, then I would say it is truly a toss up between the three guys. In the last week+ of the season, Russ Smith and Kilpatrick pulled away with great games against SMU and Memphis respectively. Considering those two teams won the league, I would have thought at worst it would have been a co-POY. Since Louisville is leaving the league, I thought it would end up going to Kilpatrick. There was definitely separation between Smith/Kilpatrick and Napier. I am quite shocked he won the award outright.

So make it. I don't see the case at all for Napier. IMO he's a chucker on an underachieving team with a pretty good offense. They finished the #5 seed. Russ Smith and SK carried similar teams to a league title and were much more efficient and excellent defensively. Napier noshowed both @UC and @UL. I thought it should have been a Smith/SK split myself.

-He's either a 1st or 2nd team all-american in the teams that have already come out
-He led his team in points, rebounds, assists and steals
-He has better all around individual numbers than SK or Russ Smith
-He plays for a team that is currently ranked inside the top 25 and will play in the NCAA tournament

I'd say that's a pretty strong case. There's a lot of people out there who could also argue that SK is a "chucker". Without having seen Napier play too many times I wouldn't feel comfortable commenting either way on that.

As far as Napier no-showing @UC don't forget that we also lost to them on their home court in a game many people might say SK no showed to. That was easily his worst game of the 2nd half of the season. As far as the defense I again wouldn't feel that comfortable commenting either way without first seeing more of him playing, but I'm a UC fan so I don't watch too many UConn games.

I mean, I hate having to make a case for the other team's guy but you asked me to. Don't be so irrational man, Napier is a great player. Nobody got screwed here and SK still got an award. I'm sure SK doesn't really care either way, he'd probably tell you his best reward would be a national championship.

I'm with you. I would have had no problem any of the three winning the award. They all had fantastic seasons and you can make a case for any of them. At the end of the day, this may be good news for the cats. Nothing is more dangerous than a first team all-american heading into the tournament feeling he has been disrespected...

Refs have been dismal down the stretch of this USF-Rutgers game. Par for the course from what I've seen all conference season.

What is the UCF coach doing? He didn't start Sykes in OT and doesn't put him in until there is 2 minutes to go? Scratching my head at that one...
