Watching saint Mary's/ gonzaga and I honestly think we beat saint Mary's by 20 on a neutral court

They definitely don't look good tonight. It's always hard to ever know just how truly good the top teams are in leagues like that, especially with how down the WCC is this year. And that goes both ways too with how good or bad those kinds of teams are.

Maybe the Zags are historically great, but how can we ever be sure when the primary justification for Gonzaga is theyve smashed almost everyone. They look great in every computer model that emphasizes margin of victory, but really how big of a difference is it to win by 35 vs 20? My biggest complaint with the computer models is afaik none of them cap margin of victory, or even have a diminishing returns scale for games over a certain #, so we're left with a model telling us gonzaga is historically elite but mostly because they've won a ton of games by 25+ points instead of only 15-25. Yes there is an opponent adjustment, but meh.

More importantly, Saint Mary's is close on the seed line to us on bracket matrix so hopefully this will keep them below us, whereas a win vs gonzaga could put them higher than us.

Some food for thought here. I guess the take away here is that the issue of excessive scoring margin is not as simple as we'd like it to be.

I've read that before. I also think the key thing he talks about is that it matters in games involving relatively equal competition.

Also, I think there's a ton of noise in determining final scores of blowouts and games that "should" be blowouts. Maybe incorporate something like when WP% is >= 99% those possessions are heavily discounted.

How many games do we see, such as UK vs LSU where Kentucky's WP never dipped below roughly 99% in the second half despite having a lead of 25 shrunk to like 10 with 30 seconds left despite never being in jeopardy of losing.

Watching the NC v Miami game. Did anyone just see Miami score on the break. North Carolina got the ball out of the basket and was down the court in a Flash and got fouled. You don't have to rebound to run. I wish we would do that. Put some pressure on the defense instead of letting them rest at the start of the possession.

We should be cheering for Michigan at Noon today. A Purdue loss could knock them down to a 5 seed, opening up a 4 slot for us to play our way into.

Anyway, I don't think it will be Archie Miller. I think he could be considered for OSU or even Indiana when Tom Crean is inevitably fired.

But that said, things are going to get very interesting soon. 2 High profile jobs will open soon (Indiana and OSU) and then a good ACC job in NC State is open.

You'd have to wonder if Josh Pastner's short term success at Georgia Tech might propel him into a position like NC State..

I mean recruiting at Georgia Tech has to be tough.. You Jerseys are made by Riddell or something.
Where are the guys who a couple of years ago kept talking about Tom crean and the great job he was doing? Must admit, Cronin has us on very solid footing. Obviously we need a tourney run.

The reason is the amount of people you have to commit to rebound.

Crean is out at IU. ESPN insider article says the Mack (XU), Miller (UD), and Marshall (WSU) are the coaches they should target. They said they should check on Cronin and that he would go if asked. The article predicted Alford (UCLA) would get the job.

"Mick Cronin, Cincinnati: He has rebuilt Cincinnati into one of the most consistent programs in the country. The Bearcats are playing in their seventh consecutive NCAA tourney this year, and Cronin -- a Cincinnati native -- is the major reason why. He would bring energy and passion to Bloomington, and he would almost certainly make the move if called."

Cronin not ending up at IU. They wI'll get who they want before it comes to Mick.

It's nice having a coach in at least one sport that we don't have to worry about bailing for a better deal. This is his better deal.

I really would prefer not to go through coaching drama every offseason. I'd also be surprised if Coach Cronin would leave with the arena being so close.
