Big 12

Supporters of the University of Houston have indicated they would consider dropping their opposition to the University of Texas’ expansion in Houston in exchange for a deal that allows the Cougars to join the Big 12 Conference, the American-Statesman has learned.

Let me get this straight:

1. UTexas has already purchased land in Houston area.
2. UTexas has political clout
3. UTexas easily wins any attempt by Houston to block extension campus without expansion

Thus, UTexas can tell Houston to no because their clout would've lost any way and tell the Governor they'll help him in reelection bid or support the challenger.

They have chosen to publicly (and probably privately) advocate Houston to Big 12. We shall see if this was easiest course for UTexas to get what they know they were getting or if UH will get in.

While things never move as quickly as we would like progress is being made.

Nippert has been renovated

They are moving ahead with the basketball upgrades

A P5 invite might really be in our future.

While there has been a lot of public politicking for UH, BYU, Memphis, UCF, etc., but it's been radio silence from UC. I'm confident that that's good news in that they feel they're in a good position already. I certainly hope that's correct.

I still think it will be 4 schools: UC, BYU (football only), UH & Memphis. I'd love to see UConn, but I don't think that will happen. Tulane is an interesting option, but they are so far behind the curve that I don't see them making the cut either.

You think they would do only 1 football only?

I don't think Boise St. Has a realistic chance - even as a football only. Way too many gaps in their resume imo.

There are many gaping holes in Houston's resume but they are still being leveraged into potential top 4. Their attendance for FB is worse than UC's BB attendance and their BB attendance is not even worth bringing up, just look at pics from games last year, pathetic.

There's a better chance than not that your solid university will be invited to join the Big 12 late this Summer. Number 2 is up in the air between UConn (espn), UCF (Florida recruiting), BYU (great but will not play on Sunday), Memphis (good geographical fit), Houston (no chance- everyone hates). Who would you guys want as number 2?

Have you been following along BaylorBear? Do you have anything to add to the conversation?

Yes.

The odd number of teams isn't a problem in other sports. In BBall, you get to play a few schools twice and the others only once and the schedule makers earn their money ensuring everyone gets the same number of home games. It'll work out. In other sports, it's even easier than BBall.

Football revenue would be difficult if there is an odd number of conference games as we have seen firsthand. Yes, I meant to say revenue because getting each team equal number of home conference games is a lot of dough to the university when you add in parking, ticket sales, donations, and concessions.

BESIDES FOOTBALL

We all know that Big XII expansion is driven by football. If UC is lucky enough, or unlucky enough, to be included depending on your view, will UC need to expand the number of sports it offers?

Yeah I don't see anything except Big 12 may want expansion settled before 2016 college football season

Not seeing much except most people belive cincy is likely to be in. I agree with that although I am still a bit nervous.

Houston and BYU makes the most sense. BYU is the best brand available, Houston has the political backing and the best chance to be a top 15 team for the foreseeable future in football.

Not saying UH won't get in, but they do not make the most sense, outside of the ut connection and one good year of football they bring nothing to the table. I get byu but not Houston.

Ya houston does not make the most sense at all. One good football season is all they really have to offer at this point. They've had poor attendance in football and basketball (uc higher in both last year). And the big 12 already has a huge foot print in Texas. Outside of Texas others schools don't really want houston because they add nothing for them. But they will get in because of Texas and the fact that the big 12 will expand by 4. The conference splits 400 million if 2 are added and 800 million if 4 are added, presidents of those universities won't pass up that much money. I think uc and byu should feel most comfortable then houston (due to Texas lobbying) with the last spot being UConn or memphis (with memphis having the edge imo). Tried to get some info from a few friends in the athletic department they couldn't say much just that it'll be for sure done by end of August. It'll be a long month but I'm expecting good news in a few weeks

if it came down to Utah state university and UC I have a feeling you would say USU makes more sense...
