According to multiple sources, Butch Jones has officially turned down the Illinois job.

He will apparantly interview with North Carolina. That is the job I would be worried about. And probably the only open job I would be worried about.

My main concern with Butch Jones is what is his motivation to stay at a Big East school if there is no long term guarantee we will have an automatic BCS bid. With that said though, I think his best chance at continuing to improve his resume is to continue to build here. UC will probably match a reasonable offer by most of these lower tier BCS programs like UNC or Illinois. If a big time program comes calling we won't compete. Staying here and being successful will eventually earn his name tossed around at a big school.

Your concerns are certainly valid. The more I think about the BCS and the more I keep hearing, I don't think the BCS will actually exist in the same form that we currently know when this contract is up. One of two things will happen. The first, and most likely, is that the BCS only picks #1 and #2 and the rest of the bowls negotiate their own conference tie ins kind of like the way it used to be.

The other possibility is the super conference thing and a resulting 4 team playoff. The difference in the super conference thing that I am hearing is that there might be 5 or 6 conferences of 14 teams as opposed to the 4 conferences of 16 teams.

Things are going to change considerably in the next 3 or 4 years. Stay tuned.

I feel the same way, I just hope we fall into one of these super conferences. There are currently 66 BCS teams (I believe), 67 when TCU joins the Big 12 and BYU and Boise St could easily make 68 and 69. And don't forget about Notre Dame. The talk of 4 16-team conferences means 6 teams will be left out, assuming a Memphis or UCF or whoever doesn't join a BCS conference. The Big East might help elevate some programs and ultimitely lower our chances of being a part of these super conferences.

Sorry but this is just my pessimism flowing out.

if you go back right before we hired him at uc he literally is saying same things word for word he may be gone. sucks man we gonna end up havin hire a uc guy.
