Cincinnati has the ability to be a big time college football program but it is going to take a coach willing to stay and an administration that is able to raise the necessary funds to keep pushing the program forward. Everything is here that you need to be successful:
- Good local talent base
- Good on campus facilities - yes, upgrades still need to happen but the weight room, locker room, lounge, practice facility are all above average to good (especially the weight room which is top notch)
- fans that will support a winner (front runner fans for sure but we all saw what happened when BK got this program on the winning trend)
If a coach like Butch Jones wants to stay for several years and build a winning product, which he obviously can, this will go a long way to helping solidify UC as a program, and not just a coach or two. Boise State is probably the best example of a program not dropping off (actually improving) after a couple successful coaches moved on. The key there was they stayed more than two or three years, built a winning pedigree and then left for "greener" pastures. BK left too soon for this. If Butch leaves this year, or even next, UC will continue to be seen as a stepping stone and not a place where you can have success for a decent length of time.
