Butler

So many wrongs on that play. Jones could have had two fouls on that play. One going for the first loose ball, then a charge when he just barrels through Clark (though Jones did that all night and was never called for it). But Ellis was also incredibly soft not to get that lose ball. Jones got it way too easy. Clark got pushed out way too easy and Shaq is too uncoordinated to make a block there.

Why are you not saying the exact same thing about Caupain. At the 6:09 mark, Troy makes the front end of 2 free throws to give us a 5 pt. lead. He misses the 2nd. Shortly thereafter he is guarding Dunham and gets faked out of his shoes and Dunham drains the wide open 3. The next time down the court with Dunham with the ball Troy is laying back off of him and someone sets a screen and Troy goes around the back leaving Dunham wide open again and he drills a second 3 giving Butler their first lead in a long time. Shortly thereafter Troy commits another foul trying to block a shot and they hit one. In those two and a half crucial minutes, it was Troy's defense that cost us big. I've seen comments that he was tired, which I wasn't noticing at the game, but if it was apparent on TV, then not giving him a rest might have lost us the game.

He probably should have been rested, but Troy just isn't that good at defense.

I'm assuming the officials were from the big least! In my opinion they sucked
big time. End of game should have been a walk & then the phantom foul on
Ellis for a push under their basket. The replay should no foul at all.
Great game, great atmosphere & our guys played hard. Just can't win when
there is 8 on 5! :(

I was thinking the same thing about the refs but I don't want to know what conference they are from. If they are AAC officials then UC has to deal with this all season ala Football

We need to get Jenifer going so we have true depth at every position. He's going to have to refocus on what his priorities are as a PG and make smart plays. If we are going to keep Troy fresh he needs 10 minutes of break each game...5 minutes in the middle of each half. Jenifer will have to Earn Cronin's trust to do that.

On a side note we should have won that game by 10 or more points. Too many turnovers, two technicals, some bad calls by the refs. Lots of wasted opportunities. Clearly our coach wasn't on his best game allowing Butler to score 50 points in one half and not being able to adjust. When they stretched the defense we should have pounded it down low.

Jenifer doesn't need to get going. In fact, I think the problem is he thinks he needs to get going. Part of the problem with Cronin allowing complete freedom for his players is they don't understand their roles. At this point Jenifer's sole purpose in important games should be to allow Caupain to get some rest. He isn't needed to score. Just come in, play defense, and distribute the ball to the guys who know what they're doing. Last night he came in and jacked up a bad three (airballed it), then tripped over his feet trying to do too much. Know your role and keep it simple.

I think Mick wants to play him, but when he comes in and plays like that Mick just can't. He went with Cobb and KJ at the 2 guards last night when he rested Caupain in the 2nd half.

That's kind of what I meant by get him going and refocused. Take care of the ball, distribute, and give Troy a breather.

I didn't think I'd ever see a game this year that UC lost due to turnovers and bad defense, but it happened last night. Yes the referees were bad, but the team shouldn't have been in a position for that to matter. Hopefully this loss will get the team to refocus and be more mentally tough going forward. (not saying they aren't now)

The defense has to communicate better, and they must take care of the ball. Butler took 14 more shots than the Cats last night. Against a good team they were lucky to be in it as much as they were. 14 more shots is a huge difference.

I liked that they showed they could play the fast paced higher scoring game against a good team, but have to not let the Defense and turnovers suffer from that pace.

Certainly anytime you can add talent and depth to the rotation you are better off. Having Cobb run PG last night is something I think you'll see more of going forward. Depending on the match ups. Shaq played some minutes at the 4 as well. Evans will continue to get more and more of the 3 minutes. My hope is Jenifer will grow into the role but it is obvious he isn't ready. We scored in the 70's. We rarely lose when we score 70. Mick said it at half time and after the game Defensively we stunk. The TO's didn't help us either. The whole fatigue issue is not nearly as relevant as how bad we guarded. Butler played the same minutes and were just as fatigued. Fact is we are not supposed to get beat when we score 70 points and we did. They obviously wanted it more then we did. Next game!!!!

Lets revisit the facts. He came in the game and immediately penetrated into the lane, drew the defense to him and dished to the corner to a then wide open KJ, who drilled the 3. Next time down the court, they screened for him and he made the same move and his feet completly slid out from under him. He did not trip over his feet, he appeared to slip on something on the court, which became a turnover. He then was wide open on the wing and took the shot and missed. Mick left him on the court for significant time after that shot, so it didn't appear he was upset with the shot at all. He then proceeded to make a very good defensive play and stole the ball from their PG, drove to the basket and was fouled hard, and converted 1 of his 2 free throws. He stayed in a little longer and then was subbed out. So when people make comments that Mick just can't play him when he plays like that, that's just not telling the real story. He missed a shot, and he slipped. Other than that, he played very well.

Troy has been part of the same good defensive teams the last two years. He has played games were he has logged lots of minutes. Fact is this, as a team we didn't take care of the ball and we did not guard. A true team loss!!!

We also were on the short end of a few whistles.

So, to kind of sum up Waite's comments, along with the majority of comments from the weekend, when we win, it's Troy's team, but when we lose, we lose as a team.

Jenifer needs this Morgan State game just to make a couple positive plays so he can get some confidence back.

This wouldn't surprise me.

I don't think Jenifer played poorly but there is a reason why Mick will only play him for 5-7 minutes in close games. He trusts every other player on the team to give up to 20 minutes or more except for Jenifer and Moore. I don't know exactly why that is but if he was productive (in the sense that Mick defines it) then he would be thrown into the mix more.

This may happen but I don't think it will be a good development. We aren't particularly effective when this happens. Best bet is that Jenifer figures out what Mick wants to see

I agree. He doesn't need to try to do too much.

I'm worried about our 3 point defense. It's been horrible. Whatever defense we're in, it has flashes of terrible communication and leaves shooters wide open.
