"We are back to normal now, just last year we were on the wrong side of the fence," Cronin said. "We lost five or six games where, if they go the other way, we are wondering, 'Is he going leave, because they are offering him jobs. He is 39 years old, he rebuilt Cincinnati, he fixed all their problems,' so it goes both ways. That is part of my business. That is never going to change."

"We probably had too many guys last year and it caused a lot of confusion," Cronin said. "It hurt our chemistry. It hurt our flow. We probably needed to have a couple of guys not be with us. Whether it be a graduation or go pro, whatever, so we can become more cohesive

Is he saying addition by subtraction?!?!

Look- I think Mick had one of the hardest jobs in America when he began. I think he has done solid. But he is out of his mind if he thinks the team wins 5-6 games more last year he is getting offers. He needs to keep his mouth shut-it really gets hard to help backin the guy when he says shit like this.

The more Mick talks the less respect he gets. I honestly can say I would hate this guy if I was a fan of any other big east team or Xavier.

Doesnt bother me. Mick is too honest and speaks his mind. He believes everything he says.

It really doesnt bother me at all.

I really think it only bothers X fans.

That's the sad part in this whole thing really. If he really believes things like this, maybe he isn't the right guy for the job. You can't have a coach who is this delusional.

Also, like the shot he took at Lance there too. He says they have too many players, does he realize they don't have to play everybody?

I think the difficult thing for a coach, and maybe this is what Mick is alluding to, is getting players to put their ego aside for the team and just play their roles. The obvious thing to me last season is that several players wanted to be "the man". Lance, Gates, Vaughn, Bishop needed to mesh, but I saw ego amongst these guys that kept the offense from flowing.

This is the context he is speaking from:
More than anything, Cronin believes this team will benefit from addition by subtraction and everyone being honest about who they are as players. He sees some of the errors of his ways from last season in creating clearly defined roles. With so much talent, he was unable to narrow it down for the better of the team.

That last sentence shows he takes ownership. Let's not use things out of context of what was said.

and this:
"We probably had too many guys last year and it caused a lot of confusion," Cronin said. "It hurt our chemistry. It hurt our flow. We probably needed to have a couple of guys not be with us. Whether it be a graduation or go pro, whatever, so we can become more cohesive."

Makes my point above. You're misrepresenting what he is saying. The sum of the parts never fit together the way he would have liked. It wasn't the right mix.

I like the sig...

As you can tell, UC fans arent that upset by the comments. I will leave that for Xavier fans to talk about. Seriously they care way more about what Mick says than UC fans do. I seriously believe they are trying to figure out who to hate now that Huggins is gone

I hope Mick has learned from the mistakes he made last season, because now every time he opens his mouth those who dislike him (like myself) will continue to bash the hell outta him. I don't really have a problem with what he said (even though it doesn't make sense to me) but did he really need to throw in that he could have been getting other job offers? The guy has accomplished nothing at UC in terms of wins and losses, what was the highest finish 9th place? what was his best Big East record 8-10? he needs to keep his loud mouth shut IMO.

He was making a point!! All he was saying is if some of the close losses had gone their way that would have been the situation he would have been in. C'mon guys, you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. READ THE CONTEXT ("... just last year we were on the wrong side of the fence," Cronin said. "We lost five or six games where, if they go the other way, we are wondering,...")! The Bearcats had (I believe) 11 losses of 8 or fewer points (6 of 4 pts. or less I believe). What he said was true.

Who the hell would be offering him though? No one in the Big East, and no one from a mid major conference. I think he is mistaken if he believes he has done good enough to where if he had 5 more wins he's getting job offers. It's just not true, yet he thinks it is.

You're taking what he said WAY out of context. His point was that if they had won some of the close calls as he put it, then people would not be critical of him or the program.

Totally disagree. While I'm not 100% on the Mick Cronin bandwagon, there are many nationally who believe he has done a very good job under the circumstances he's inherited. He gets far more respect nationally from people inside college basketball than he does here in Cincy. Five more wins and he's in the NCAA and top 5 in the BEast. That's attractive.

The team should be improved next year, as what was lost is replaceable. One can't say the same for the rest of the BE.

Xavier fans make a much bigger deal out of this stuff. Check that. Xavier fans and everyone on bcn make a much bigger deal out of this stuff.

Actually, I think too many here are downplaying it. I am constantly amazed at what comes out of this guy's mouth.

I sure hope they get the wins to back up the "addition by subtraction". I'm worried though, but I hope he's right.

I have seen this personally. I have many friends who are avid college basketball fans that root for other teams (not in the Big East) and live across the country. Every single one of them, to a man, has said that they think MC is doing a good job and wonder whether he will stay at UC once he finishes the rebuilding project at UC. Of course, they don't understand MC's connection to the University but their point is still valid.

How long does it take to rebuild? how long is this rebuilding talk going to go on?

Mick said his self the rebuilding was over last year. Why are we even talking about rebuilding at this point?

We lose are top 2 scorers off a team that struggle to score 60 points a game. He brings in very little, and he's talking about fans worrying about him leaving for another job, and we have to many players.

STFU, Mick and win!

Mick has another year, IMO...so the rebuilding talk is done. Five years is enough time, and I'll be rooting for him and the team to get things done this upcoming year.

I 100000000000000000% disagree, all other teams in the Big East do is have new players step in (see Syracuse, Marquette, Pitt).

You think that the only guy on the team that could make a play for himself is replaceable?

I think his production is replaceable. I think the same could be said for DV's spot as well. Now, the mindset of standing around hoping for LS to score needs to change, but keep in mind...LS took some really bad shots, and forced things that weren't there. Would he do it as a soph, prob not as much, but we'll never know. Lance the freshman can be replaced.

What UC truly needs is leadership from Cash and JK, as they are the most likely suspects as far as I can tell. One guy who could drive to the hoop should be replaced by the whole team with the idea of attacking the basket. It's time to stop throwing up three's, standing around, and hoping Lance can break his man down at the expense of offensive flow.
