Cincinnati to switch to Under Armor?

Rumor and speculation flying around about UC and UA tonight. Some come from deleted tweets from the bearcat journal account on twitter. The tweet essentially claimed the switch to Under Armour is done and is the biggest apparel contract in UC history and UC is being targeted as a flagship program. Speculation is that UA would not be spending that kind of money for a team treading water in the AAC and this could be a signal to a move to the B12. Interesting stuff but obviously nothing is confirmed as of now....... Exciting stuff in my opinion.

With this many rumors flying and big companies involved, I'm almost shocked there wouldn't be a leak at this point unless nothing truly was moving behind the scenes.

The deal is done, I'm guessing the announcement is coming soon.

Oh, I agree that there have been a lot of rumors but virtually all of them are coming from the UC side, not the Big 12 side.

That's not completely true. A lot of the rumors are coming from Big12 boards. Maybe not the conference directly but there is no benefit to the Big 12 leaking anything like that anyway.

Links?? I haven't seen any. Everything I've seen has come from the UC 247 board or supposed realignment experts on Twitter.

Mostly, yes, but Bowlsby said himself that if the B12 were to expand, they'd go east, not west. That's a fact. I believe he said this a month-ish ago.

Back on the original point, I like whatever gives UC more money, and it sounds like that would be Under Armour. With us being a flagship school, like others have stated, we'd get a lot of hot and fresh apparel/designs. Also, when it comes to selling jerseys in stores, Adidas has gotten very lazy with us. I'm pretty sure all we've been selling for 3 years now is the SK #23 jersey. Every once in a while you'd see a Justin Jackson #5. They also didn't sell any red jerseys anywhere, from my hours of searching once. I think that UC would be a big deal to UA, so they'd be really on-top of the stuff that Adidas wasn't necessarily with us. I'm all for it.

Could not agree more! Adidas jersey's for fans have been stale for years now.

I personally really like what UA has done with college jerseys this year. Thought Temple's looked excellent the other night in person.

Confirmed.....

The University of Cincinnati sports teams will switch from Adidas to Under Armour gear effective July 1, a UC athletic department source confirmed Wednesday.

The source said the deal will be much larger than UC's current contract with Adidas, in which the Bearcats annually receive a base of $1.05 million in equipment and apparel allowance for their sports teams - plus $525,000 in cash. The Adidas contract runs through June 2015.

"This is a monster deal, and it will dwarf what UC had before," said the source, who requested anonymity because no official announcement has been made.

An announcement on the Under Armour deal probably will be forthcoming this spring, the source said.

U of Cincinnati leaving adidas, signing deal with Under Armour. Will go from getting $1.5M/year in cash & product up to as much as $5M/year.

That is a serious jump for an American team. Either Adidas was underpaying us, Under Armour is overpaying us, or our value is expected to rise by a significant margin.

Probably just a matter of changing economics and not much else. Our apparel sales can't figure to be trending drastically upward even by the most optimistic person.

Very nice...seems like a good win for our program. Although, I still like the Addidas clothing line better. Can't wait to see what our new unis will look like.
