Kentucky is an average team.

Turnovers and bad defense will be their downfall in march.

They're feasting off how bad the SEC is and that makes their play look better. Arky, Tenn, Vandy, and Miss St. should all be wins for a so called "contender".

Yeah, average is harsh. They certainly haven't lived up to their hype yet, but you know they've got the physical talent. I think resume wise, UC should be higher, but I still do not want to face them in March. They're a team that could randomly put it all together at any moment.

I haven't watched a ton of UK, so I can't offer a great scouting report. I don't know what you are talking about when you mention turnovers though. Their turnover rate is average. It doesn't seem like a weakness to me.

And Calapari is a great defensive coach. He has routinely coached great defenses at UK, last year being the obvious exception. So while their defense is not as good as their offense so far this year, that is something that will probably be much easier to fix for Cal, especially with such a young team.

I agree that the SEC is weak overall. But UK has played a schedule that ranks 23rd in the country and Tennessee is not weak. UK should be expected to win at home against them, but part of that is because UK is a very good team. Maybe they don't have enough of the marquee wins yet, but beating Louisville is nothing to sneeze at. I know I will be very happy if UC can beat them. Tennessee is also a good win.

They are good. They deserve the ranking they have. And quite frankly by the end of the year they will probably be even better.

Cincinnati has better wins and half as many losses as UK. Kentucky does not deserve to be ranked ahead of Cincinnati. There's no rational way to argue it, except for what we all already know -- it's about the name brand.

Or maybe some people just think Kentucky is a better team. That's not an outlandish opinion, and even less so given UK would be favored on a neutral floor if they played tomorrow.

It's suppose to be a snap shot of where you are week to week not a reflection of your talent and potential. That is what most people's problem is. Along with the bias toward certain programs. You do, or should move up or down week to week based on that weeks performance. That's why it's a weekly poll. Otherwise you have only two a season. One at the beginning to project and one at the end.

Let's be reasonable. There has to be some middle ground between " no polls except at beginning and end" and "blindly moving teams up and down on wins and losses without contextualizing them."

I personally don't see why we should expect a team ranked around 15ish in a week to drop because they play 2 games.
1. they have a 1 possession OT loss on the road to a solid team in a game they were not even favored to win.

2. A home win against a solid Tenn team in a game they pretty much met expectations.

That sounds like the snapshot to me means they were pretty much the same at the beginning and end of the week wrt meeting expectations.

UK has talent. I'm not willing to jump at there and say we are a better team. They would be a very tough draw for us. Fairly deep and lots of size. We would have our work cut out for us.

Generally, if you play 2 games against unranked teams, and lose one, you drop at least a few spots. That's how it's always been. And while they did beat Tennessee, it was pretty close the entire game. I think they expected to take control of that game more than they did.

they beat Tenn, who split with X who dismantled us. I'm happy we're ranked and playing well.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. "2games vs unranked and lose one" is no where near intellectually honest. There's a massive difference between vs Tenn and @ Ark and playing sfla and this years version of temple.

We should all know this first hand after having been in the real BE for the time we were. Playing teams in that 20-50 kenpom range is a massive difference than teams 150+ like the bottom of the aac and even bottom of the sec is this year. All " unranked" teams aren't remotely equal.

Right, but being #13, they should've beaten both teams, right? All I'm saying is drop them to 16-17, not out of the polls. One spot seems soft. If they went 1-1 every week for 7 straight weeks against similar opponents, you think they'd really just fall to 21? Come on.

No they shouldn't have considering they weren't favored in both.
You're not even considering home and road. And no team would play a schedule like that in any league because its not possible right now to have every game vs a top 50 kenpom team.

Again, what from those 2 games makes you think more or less about a team than was thought at the time the initial ranking was given? They were a 1.5 to 2 point road dog and lost in OT by 2. They were a 8.5 point favorite vs Tenn and won by 8. It is hard to meet expectations to the level that team did in those two games.

I am actually pretty happy at 15 AP and 16 Coaches. With Lawrence out I don't think we have seen enough lately to think we should be much higher. If we can remain in the top 20 while he is out I would be happy. When he is back in the game our potential could be closer to top 10...since it allows us to play our bad ass man on man D rather than a sissy Syracuse zone. We don't play Syracuse anytime soon do we:)

Wow! Creighton is bombing in three's on the road against #4 Villanova (who I don't think is THAT good). 40-17 with 8 minutes to go in the first half. That Wragge kid who killed us last year already has hit 7 three's...

Ohio State is getting spanked by Nebraska right now. They are in a serious slump.

Didn't we beat Nebraska pretty easily? Not that it means we would beat OSU, but I think we would have a better shot this year than when we played them 2 years ago.
