2.3M annually for 6 years, according to Sports Ilustrated.

Buyout starts at 3.5M and decreases by 500K per year. Basically the exact same as Tuberville's contract

Here's my opinion. I initially called it a solid double. Not a HR hire but I would argue that there weren't really any HRs out there beyond Fleck. That said, I am very impressed by the guy. Heard many good things about him when I lived in Columbus and by all accounts he is very well respected. I think the thing I like most is the fact that he has a plan to make this program great again and is going to bring uptempo here. I'm sold and I'd call it a solid triple now. I think this is an excellent hire. I hope the fans get on board and give the new staff a chance. I see good things ahead.

I foresee many season ticket holders sticking with their season ticket plans. People are pretty excited about this overall I think. Hopefully there is enough talent left for him to reach 8 wins next year. I would be happy with that.

Great news! My rt-hand man, Kerry Coombs, is a Buckeye! In add to coordinating the SPT, he will have an expanded coordinating role on our D
This is how it works in all walks of life. It's not that they were afraid of UC when they hired Coombs a few years ago. They just dont let you make any gain at all. They will not let you gain traction. Buy out games if need to, hire the recruiting expert, have an exhibition in your backyard. Whatever it takes. :(

I think it is a wait and see to rate the hire. To many Tubs was a homerun hire and we all know how that worked out.

Re: Recruiting in Cinti/Coombs. I understand people want more recruiting in Cincinnati and would be nice to get some guys locally. My question is did Coombs bring in any local studs when he was here? Did BK/Butch/Dantonio hit the greater cinti area hard/have any local guru recruiter? It is possible to be successful at UC with not locking SW ohio recruits. If Fickell has good Ohio ties, go get a master recruiter in Florida or Texas instead, and if you can hire a recruiter that can coach, already has a leg up on Coombs in that regard. I just don't think that UC can afford to give a guy 350K or whatever to be a recruiter/cheerleader. Since Fickell is coaching in the CFP he cannot name his staff and hence the memo from Coombs, which never stated he was leaving or staying. All things considered decent hire, just was far down on the list and was not in the top 3 of Bohn's targets.

I was wondering the same thing bout Coombs. Everyone says he would kill it for local recruiting, but was that the case when he was here? We had the NT and multi-position threat on Offense (former QB). Both from Colerain. Names escape me.
Did we get the top players from Moeller, or other local HS's?

They need to keep whoever has been recruiting in Indiana. They have done a solid job over here.

Byrd was the NT and Goodman was the WR and former QB. But if i remember correctly he coached those guys in high school. Goodman was the state champion QB for colerain.

I heard 700 say that Dantonio recruited Byrd and Goodman, and they were also in a better league at that time as well.

Dantonio got all those Colerain kids and it's not like any of them were huge gets at the time other than the local kids were staying home. The big time recruit from that Colerain team was Mister Simpson and he went to Michigan and then busted out and eventually wound up back at UC but never played. Revels, Goodman, Mills, Byrd......none of those kids were ranked as big time recruits, but they were definitely the right recruits.

Kelly and Coombs didn't really clean up on the local circuit during their time here. They did a good job recruiting in general but the big time recruits wound up leaving home anyways. We got beat out by ND, BC, MSU and Louisville for some good local players while Coombs was here. That's why I don't get why everyone is so hung up on him. He's a good recruiter but it's also not that hard to recruit to OSU. We aren't going to compete with the schools around us for the blue chip kids, that's just not UC football and it never has been.

I liked what Fickell had to say the other day, it's about getting the right kids and not necessarily the highest rated kids. Hopefully Fickell is good at evaluating what makes the right kid vs the kid who has an impressive tape. Kelly used to talk about getting the "right kid of guy" all the time and he was good at doing it. Gilyard wasn't highly ranked, neither was Tony Pike or Armon Binns, or the Kelce's, or Pead, or DJ Woods, or Malik Bomar, ect, ect, ect....

The goal should not be to compete with OSU for players, it should be to get the players OSU wishes they would have targeted instead.

I think DJ Woods was borderline 4* wasn't he? Didn't we get him to de-commit from Nebraska to come here?

well this would certainly help him next year

I've been told by some people today to keep an eye on the #Bearcats for former #NotreDame QB Malik Zaire. Would be terrific fit

Oh snap. I knew he would be eligible immediately but never said anything g bc I figured it was a huge longshot. I'd take him in a heartbeat. Good athlete and has a cannon.
