Chad really is the best covering UC.

I was wondering where all this Coombs stuff comes from. As an out of towner, it confuses the sh*t out of me. Makes more sense knowing the radio guys are pushing that crap. It really is a joke.

There is a weird fascination in Cincinnati with Coombs. It stems from the weird fascination people have with high school football here and the "famed" coaches.

the media in this country is absolutely not about reporting the truth. Hasn't been for decades.

I just don't get how someone can take themselves seriously if they're peddling garbage about Kerry Coombs being the guy. Didn't these guys get into the business to cover sports, not spout nonsense for ratings? It's irresponsible, to say the least. These guys need to start covering Miami (OH) and the GCL if they place loyalty to local favorites over all else.

The list of former AAC coaches currently holding big time P5 jobs is quite impressive.

Justin Fuente - VT
Matt Rhule - Baylor
Tom Herman - Texas
Willie Taggart - Oregon
Butch Jones - UT

Definitely good for the future of the AAC to continue to have this kind of track record. There's typically a 3 tiered stepping stone system in CFB. Start in a smaller conference, bump up to a mid level and eventually to a P5. The AAC is showing that it's the premier proving ground for big time P5 jobs. College sports are all about coaching so it's nice to be in a situation where we can say we're in the upper echelon of the best farm system for coaches in the country.

We need to embrace the stepping stone mantra. The way I look at it, if our next hire doesn't leave UC for a better job in 3-5 years then it's a failure. Keep on plugging in the next young rising star and eventually you might find the guy who wants to stay.

PS - Eventually someone is going to give Steve Sarkisian another chance, why not us right now? Guy was HC at Washington and USC and he's only 42 years old. I believe he should be on our list if he's not.

If a guy doesn't leave after 3-5 years it's a failure. Haha I'm okay with being a stepping stone, but if a guy succeeds and stays how is that a failure.

How awful is the sports media in this town?? Lance McAllister spends an hour last night talking about Kerry Coombs and we get articles from the Enquirer and 700WLW about Kerry Coombs. It's such an absolute disgrace how no one in this city seems to have any expectations for their sports teams. Yeah, let's hire a guy because he used to coach a high school team in Cincinnati. Never mind that his name has never been rumored for ANY coaching jobs, he's been stripped of responsibilities in recent year's at OSU, and he has no real X's and O's experience. They ran a freaking option offense at Colerain, give me a break.

We've got Tom Groeschen, the UC guy for the enquirer, who should be the busiest he'll ever be right now yet is only sending out 1 or 2 tweets/day and giving us very little info.

The general laziness and tone of mediocrity we get from our sports media is a BIG reason why all our of teams in this city don't ever win a damn thing.

Nothing to do with fan support I'm sure.

If a guy succeeds and stays that's not a failure, but who's going to do that? Success to me is 10-2, 9-3, 11-1, 12-0 type seasons, rankings in the top 25, AAC championships, and a shot at the group of 5 BCS game. I doubt we're going to hire anyone who's going to achieve that level of success and decide they want to stay here when the big names come calling.

I'm not suggesting a guy leave UC to go be the HC at Northwestern, but if the big dogs come calling (and they would with that type of success) a coach would have to be dumb not to listen.

Well of course we would expect him to leave for a top school, but I don't think it's what we should hope for. Honestly we are still a top program, it might not look that way at the moment because of what tommy did, but I put us in the top 40 still over the last decade, if it isn't for a top 15-20 job I don't see the point leaving. But anyway, like I said I don't mind if it happens, but I'm gonna hope that I'd/when we win, our coach stays

I don't disagree at all, I'm just saying we need to be okay with stepping stone mentality. Forget worrying about finding a coach who will stay and just find a guy who can win big. Expect that if that happens they'll be gone in 3-5 years.

Seems like we're on the same page here.

Guys don't kid yourself in thinking it is not a money issue either. TT made 2 mil a year. Brohm is getting 3 mil a year to coach Purdue. you also have to factor in what his staff will get. There salary is based on what the school can afford to pay. P5 jobs pay more.

I think Tuberville got $2.2M. Do you know how much we're offering the new coach? Bc the old # for Tuberville is irrelevant now.

Everyone gets the difference in P5 to our situation by now. We get it.

Sorry Waite but that's not true. TT was making more money than Purdue's last coach. Purdue paid 3mil/year because they're tired of losing and thought they had their guy. Not all P5 jobs pay as much as UC and I'm sure if we really thought we had to we could pay in $3mil/year range.

Give us a chance to at least sign a coach before you continue to spread your rhetoric and try to convince everyone why we shouldn't expect to be good. If we need to free up extra funds maybe we can move some money away from the over inflated contract of our head basketball coach.

Read they offered brohm 2.5 mil.

Thanks. I figured that'd be the range. We can get a great coach for that price.

Yeah I'm really surprised to hear fleck isn't interested at all. Even if it's not a P5 it's a clear step up from western Michigan and a whole lot bigger pay day

Baylor, Oregon, Texas, and Purdue are all filled. Are there any other decent P5 opportunities out there for Fleck to even consider?

Someone on Twitter said Orlando, Applewhite, or Kiffin for Houston. I wonder what happened to Miles.

I see your point but part of the issue is what your also able to pay your staff.
This is just the start of the have and have nots. The gap will get wider. The fact we committed millions to get in the game should tell you something.

I also never said we couldn't be good. We certainly can compete and should in our league. The world of sports is about money unfortunately for the fans. Take your suggestion to the board of directors. Oh and if anyone spreads rhetoric it's your constant berating of our basketball coach. Do us all a favor if you have a problem with the coach quit boring the sh#t out of us and take it up with the BOT. I'm sure they would be interested in your opinion. Another example of baiting people to derail the thread.

It's very frustrating Jake. Was really looking to land a seat at the table. My fear is this is just the tip of the iceberg.
