USF’s Willie Taggart will be named Oregon’s coach, a source told @ESPN

Sets up for Charlie Strong to return to the state of Florida. He'd be a great fit at USF.

That would make sense, however it's being reported that their Top 3 candidates are Greg Schiano, Lawrence Dawsey and Lane Kiffin.

Schiano would make a ton of sense given the obvious connection to Tampa.

The list of former AAC coaches currently holding big time P5 jobs is quite impressive.

Justin Fuente - VT
Matt Rhule - Baylor
Tom Herman - Texas
Willie Taggart - Oregon
Butch Jones - UT

Definitely good for the future of the AAC to continue to have this kind of track record. There's typically a 3 tiered stepping stone system in CFB. Start in a smaller conference, bump up to a mid level and eventually to a P5. The AAC is showing that it's the premier proving ground for big time P5 jobs. College sports are all about coaching so it's nice to be in a situation where we can say we're in the upper echelon of the best farm system for coaches in the country.

We need to embrace the stepping stone mantra. The way I look at it, if our next hire doesn't leave UC for a better job in 3-5 years then it's a failure. Keep on plugging in the next young rising star and eventually you might find the guy who wants to stay.

PS - Eventually someone is going to give Steve Sarkisian another chance, why not us right now? Guy was HC at Washington and USC and he's only 42 years old. I believe he should be on our list if he's not.

Certainly worked across town for the basketball program. Might not like it, it can't deny it.

Michigan State?

Sarkisian had a lot of baggage at USC. If he has that under control it may work but my feeling is there has to be a reason nobody is mentioning him at this point.

Is Fickell from TOSU picking up any steam? Has anyone heard if he is on our list?

He picked up a little steam late last night. His name was rumored by a few people before TT stepped down but I haven't heard much since. Bohnhead has done a decent job of keeping everything tight lipped which is usually the best strategy. Not too many leaks in our athletic department.

I'm on the record as saying I wouldn't mind Fickell. I think he could recruit very well but I also think a program like ours almost has to think offense first. The only way Fickell works is if he can bring in a dynamic OC as part of his staff.

I think he will be the new Alabama OC when Kiffin leaves. Saban has had him as an advisor for months now. He's preparing for Kiffin's departure.

I could care less about character or past issues with a coach, all that matters is winning. We're not in a position to put ourselves up on a moral pedestal. We need to take the coach that gives us the best chance to win.

Bohn needs to have the stones to seriously consider a Sarkisian or a Briles if he feels they would be interested and would give us a good chance at success.

Bottom line is that someone will give those guys another shot and most likely it will pay off for whoever does. If Petrino can return to Louisville then we can hire a guy with a spotty past.

I think the teams who are successful are armed with a mobile QB. Houston and Ward. Being able to stop them is important as well. I do agree he would need someone who could really build the offense.

That's a good point, I really hope we're not in a situation though where being the OC at Alabama is a better job than being our HC.

Kiffin isn't really generating any heat for a big time coaching job so he's most likely going to need to step into a mid level school and show success before getting back into the big time. I would think the same thing plays our for Sark. If that's the case why not just cut out the middle man and go straight to the job that can springboard you further?

There's probably a lot of other reasons why Sark might not be interested, I just hope that Bohn is exploring all options and being aggressive.

Kiffin really turned some people in the coaching community off when he left USC. He still feels the need to instigate stuff like when he beat them this year he took to twitter.

Kiffin might join Coach O at LSU if the right HC opportunity isn't there. I'd take Kiffin in a heartbeat. I would not take Sark. He's got a lot to prove before you can let him lead/be the face of an entire program imo.

How awful is the sports media in this town?? Lance McAllister spends an hour last night talking about Kerry Coombs and we get articles from the Enquirer and 700WLW about Kerry Coombs. It's such an absolute disgrace how no one in this city seems to have any expectations for their sports teams. Yeah, let's hire a guy because he used to coach a high school team in Cincinnati. Never mind that his name has never been rumored for ANY coaching jobs, he's been stripped of responsibilities in recent year's at OSU, and he has no real X's and O's experience. They ran a freaking option offense at Colerain, give me a break.

We've got Tom Groeschen, the UC guy for the enquirer, who should be the busiest he'll ever be right now yet is only sending out 1 or 2 tweets/day and giving us very little info.

The general laziness and tone of mediocrity we get from our sports media is a BIG reason why all our of teams in this city don't ever win a damn thing.

Chad really is the best covering UC.

I was wondering where all this Coombs stuff comes from. As an out of towner, it confuses the sh*t out of me. Makes more sense knowing the radio guys are pushing that crap. It really is a joke.

These guys know if they write an article about Coombs or talk about him on the radio they'll get clicks and calls. That's all they really care about. We need aggressive sports media in this town who actually root for the teams they cover and don't stand for anything other than winning championships.

the media in this country is absolutely not about reporting the truth. Hasn't been for decades.
