College Basketball Rule Changes

A shot clock reduction may cause Mick to ramp up his focus on defense even more. If he can make the other team waste a lot of time getting into their offense, it will leave virtually no time for them to get a good shot off.

I think we're hoping that the new rule speeds up our offense and gets us away from walking the ball up the court, but it might have the opposite effect of leading to us focusing even more on the defensive side of the ball.

Just a thought....lol....but I like the changes generally speaking. The game has become more boring than it once was....especially in Cincinnati. Anything to speed things up is a positive.

I don't see Cronin ramping up the defense. I think our great defense will be a huge advantage to us. 5 seconds less everytime down the court will benefit UC in a big way. With a game changing ball handler like Jenifer as well as his shooting ability combined with the additional offense of Evans and Tre Scott
I think the Bearcats will have an outstanding season. Hopefully they can stay away from injuries. Don't think the game is boring at all and especially not in Cincinnati !!

Drives me nuts, too. It presents itself fairly often and is rarely utilized.

I think a large part of the reason is because coaches worry players would be more likely to take bad shots because they need to take quick shots. 1 good possession is better than 2 bad ones.

NBA players have no problem creating good shots with limited time. Not many college players seem to be able to do it.

While there is some truth to what you said, I think college teams should run their offense and take the first good shot they get in those situations. Many teams just hold the ball and wait until there are less than 10 seconds anyway which often leads to a poor shot too.

In the Cronin era, I have to completely disagree with you. Our style of play will make your eyeballs bleed. I've needed blood transfusions after some games. But hey, if you think this style of play is exciting, I'm happy for you. I like the style of play that Mick has promised us for ten years, but has never carried thru with. He'll usually show it to us against the Sisters of the Poor, but once the league play begins, he's back to the familiar boring slow-down style of play. He has a team this year that shouldn't need to play like that and I have my fingers crossed that he'll step the pace up considerably. But, I'll keep a couple pints of blood around just in case. ;)
