One thing I like about this match up is our guards rebounding ability. Looking at the stats their guards dont hit the boards very well and ours attack the offensive glass all day. It wouldnt surprise me to see Park pick up a double double in this game.

This is gonna be a big aspect of the game for us, hitting the D boards and limiting the number of extra possessions that Creighton gets will really help us to keep this game more low scoring, and we all know that with our FG% we will need to get as many second oppertunities as we can. We dominate the boards like we have all year and we have a great shot at winning this game.

Our starting point guard, Austin Chatman, is a sophomore and a lot of question marks were surrounding him coming into this season as he replaced longtime Bluejay Antoine Young. Chatman has done extremely well this season but in the games we struggled in during February, it is my opinion that it was partly due to our guard play. Chatman is very quick but he's not quite tall in enough to drive and score consistently. Chatman handled the press well in games against Wichita State, who presses a ton. He's also got a nice outside shot. Teams tend to sag off of him though and test him.

When we have struggled this year, I believe it's because of our inability to feed the post. Sometimes our guards' passes to guys like Doug are laughable. Our 2 guard Jahenns Manigat is a turnover machine in games we struggle in because he is so unsure of himself.

Our 3 guard Grant Gibbs is extremely confident with the ball but sometimes that gets him in trouble because he believes he can dribble through anything. He's got to be one of the slowest guards in America but somehow, some way, the guy can drive and handle it well. However, this can get him in trouble on defense and he'll start fouling. Which is of course an issue because he's so valuable on offense.

Our center, Echenique, can either be the biggest force in a game you've seen all season long or he'll disappear and put up 4 points 3 boards. He can only score within 2 feet of the basket really.

Doug McDermott uses everything to his ability to score. You might think he's a flopper because he does 'sell' a lot of fouls. And he scores like nobody I've ever seen. Some of the shots we see him make are circus-like.

Our defense leaves a lot to be desired like others have mentioned. We cover the perimeter, etc., well enough but when I'm mad at our defense it's usually because of our inability to cut off drivers and let guards dribble around us like we're cones. Echenique is a great defender on the interior and Manigat can hold his own. Other than them, there's nobody that can guard above average.
Was watching your highlights and McDermott does spend a lot of time on the floor horizontally. From what I could see, nobody touched him to get him in that position. He springs right back up, though. That Wragge kid is a shooter from outside! Your guys make a lot of good passes off drives, and a lot of good "no look" passes. We seem to always get hammered on the back door moves

They don't need to hit the boards as hard as the Cats....Creighton's shots go in the basket

Your great interior defenders are worthless. Our inside game is non-existant, but our interior guys can defend and guard the basket with the best in the country. I think we have the guy(s) to defend McDermott outside, and give him problems if he decides to come inside. It'll depend if we help off too much and leave your other shooters open. Should be a fun game to watch.

They will on the defensive end because Cincy's shots dont, and thats why we need the extra possessions. We might not shoot well but if we get 15 more shots even at 33% thats an extra 10-15 pts in our favour.

Teams this year that have stopped us from a good offensive rebounding % have had a much better chance against us.

Posting without BearcatMick aka "the gnat" will be quite enjoyable. Thank you to the moderators for this long overdue ban.

Guess it comes down to containing the other guys because you figure McDermott will get his, Bearcats cant afford to go scoreless for 6+ minutes.
Going with the heart on this one

Cincy-65

Creighton-62

I think more than anything they do on the court, what I'll take away from these two is that they just seem to be great quality individuals...the kind you want representing your university. I'm not the biggest fan of Mick's coaching, but I give him credit for a lot of the student athletes he has recruited and these two represent the best of the best.

A few weeks ago Cashmere was featured on the Mick Cronin show as he prepared for Senior night and he reflected back on his career and the whole interview was such that you couldn't come away with any other feeling than just loving him. It was somewhat emotional to hear him talk about everything that has happened to him here. My son got up and commented, "I think I'll cry at the game tomorrow when he walks out for the final time". Can't emphasize enough how much respect I had for him after that interview.

And Kilpatrick....just one of the classiest players to ever play at UC. He never showboats, never disrespects the opponent, never talks smack, is as even keeled as any player to ever play at UC. I feel bad that he didn't have much help around him this year, because I really feel like that fact was why he made 2nd team all Big East instead of first team. He was forced to try to do too much, take more bad shots than normal, overcome more defensive pressure than normal, etc. because other teams could help off on him more due to the fact that we didn't have many other alternatives. I'll never forget the interview a few years ago after I think one of those Vegas tournament games...and it was one of the well known sports guys interviewing him (name escapes me), and at the end of the interview, Sean says, "Thank you Mr. (insert name). After they went back to the studio, everyone just talked about him using "Mr." to refer to the guy who interviewed him, and how polite he was. It was just an amazing moment and one for all Bearcat fans to be proud of.

These two guys have represented our program at the very highest level and have been a huge part of our resurgance and deserve a special place in our hearts. Recruiting both of them was a job well done by our coach.

I'm getting ready to leave work and go home to watch the game. So I wanted to stop by to say good luck in this afternoon's matchup. And by good luck I mean; may this game not be decided by the officiating, someone getting hurt, etc. It's going to be a good matchup. In my biased opinion, I think that the game is close until about the 10 minute mark in the second half then we maintain a 8-10 pt margin.

Jays 65
UC 56

In my losing scenario I see UC getting out to a fast start and us not being able to hit shots because of your defenders closing out on our shooters well.

Jays 58
UC 65

I don't know too much about Creighton but I still cannot see UC winning this one. UC has not beaten a good team since Villanova on February 12th and I don't even think Villanova is that good. Their next good team they beat was Marquette in January.

Creighton: 65
UC: 56

I really hope I'm wrong. Edit, just realize that OmahaJay picked my score. So I'll give UC the benefit of the doubt and say they score 58 points.

Couldn't agree more!

UCONN was a good team when UC played them and they would have been in the NCAA Tourney if eligible. Hard to say they didn't beat ANY good teams.

What's interesting about this match up is that you could say both UC and Creighton played their best ball early in the season. Another thing to realize is that UC only lost one game this year OOC and that was to New Mexico in a game that UC really should have won if not for some very questionable calls down the stretch of that game.

Creighton probably has the best player in this game but I think UC can make it very tough for him. Stop McD and you stop Creighton. I expect UC to win this game.

To be fair, UConn did not have Napier when we played them(USF beat UConn by double digits the game before without Napier).

That said, UC can definitely win this game. Will Creighton handle our pressure? Can UC effectively guard McD without fouling?

I'm very concerned about focusing too much on McD and leaving one of their 5 excellent three point shooters open.

Going with UC in a close one

To be fair, UC hasn't had a remotely healthy Cashmere Wright since he got hurt against DePaul. It goes both ways. Throughout a season you have to overcome injuries and other obstacles.

Rubles needs to play within himself. Having a good game to this point. Hope SK warms up.
