Here's my recap.
I listened to the game on the radio, and the play-by-play and boxscore up on my computer, while I stayed late at work. Xavier always seems to come to play and UC always seems tight in these games. On the radio, it kinda sounded that way.
Watched it on my DVR when I got home after the game had already ended and I knew they had won.
First half was simply a "debacle" offensively as Mick said at halftime. He was dead on that one. The defense and rebounding were stifling. But UC kept making dumb moves offensively that turned the ball over and gave Xavier easy buckets. But Xavier really could do nothing in their halfcourt offense. Our size, athleticism, and typical stifling defense shut them down. Like I said, most of their points came off our stupidity.
And offensively, UC seemed to rush things. Mick said that in his postgame and I agree (and I don't always agree with Mick).
If UC could eliminate the stupid turnovers and get some intelligent flow to their offense, Mick is correct that they could be an elite team. Because typically, the defense and rebounding are pretty consistent. Barring an opponent just simply being hot and in can't miss mode, most opponents aren't going to break 60 points on a normal night.
If Mick can get the offense humming, this team is going to be impressive. Not there yet though.
Rubles frustrates me. Doesn't seem to know a good shot from a bad shot. S K gets 3 point happy. Parker disappears for long periods of time. Cash seems to wait to see if S K is going to do anything. And they rarely try to do anything with Mbodj or Nyarsuk or even Jackson in the low post.
Fine tune the offense. Maintain the defense and rebounding, and this team keeps getting better.
