Thanks for the update. Looks like Gabe is the only one really paying off

Mid-February updates:

-Gabe Madsen (Utah): Suffered a lower leg injury against Oregon on 1/28 is expected to be out until early-mid March. Had started every game up until that point and was Utah's 2nd-leading scorer at 11.7 ppg while shooting 37.3% from 3.

-Mike Saunders (Utah): Has been relegated to deep bench duty while only appearing in 15 of 27 games on the season. Over the past month he has played a total of 4 minutes.

-Mason Madsen (Boston College): Went from a starter during OOC play to a ~15 min/game bench guy during the start of ACC play, but has since seen his role increase again. He has played 20+ minutes/game over the past 8 games while shooting 38% from 3 (14/37) during that stretch.

-AJ McGinnis (Lipscomb): Made his first 3 starts of the season recently and shot 45% from 3 (9/20) while averaging 13.3 ppg during that stretch.

-Zach Harvey (UC Santa Barbara): Entered the transfer portal on 12/28/22.

-Rob Banks (Texas A&M Commerce): Has only made 2 appearances against D1 teams this season for a grand total of 3 minutes.

Mason Madsen contributed 2 points and 2 rebounds over 15 minutes in Boston College's 63-48 upset victory over #6 Virginia on Wednesday night.

Mike Saunders had his best game of the season in a 78-71 loss against #4 UCLA on Thursday night. Saunders came off the bench to score 25 points (10-17 FG, 3/6 3FG) in 24 minutes while adding 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

I read a rumor on a Utah message board that Saunders had a verbal altercation with an assistant coach earlier in the season that led to him getting buried on the bench as punishment.

Regardless of whether it's true or not, it would be good to see him finish the season on a strong note.

Well that came out of nowhere. It was only his second double digit scoring game of the season, after an 11 pt showing in the season opener over LIU Brooklyn, which was also the only other game he played more than 20 minutes. The only other time he's played more than 2 minutes in conference play was also against UCLA over a month ago when he played 12. Very strange.

Tari is averaging 9 and 6 for the Houston Rockets. He's possibly already had a more productive NBA career than any Bearcat since Lance. Kilpatrick had a decent couple year run for the Nets.

Saunders scored 19 points in the final 14 minutes of that game, including 7 during a 14-1 run when they cut UCLA's lead from 16 to 3. Have to think he'll get more minutes going into the conference tournament.

Logan Johnson has been playing some of the best basketball of his career over the past 6 games for St. Mary's.

25.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.5 apg, 11/22 3FG (50%)

The Gaels are currently ranked #7 in NET but were not included in the NCAA's recent "Top 16" reveal last weekend.

Logan Johnson has scored 27 or more points in 5 of his last 6 games for St Marys. He's starting to make some 3's but he can get to the rack and pass the ball too.

Mike Saunders has entered the transfer portal.

4.1 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 0.8 apg for 9.7 mpg over 18 games off the bench. Slashed 42/30/64.

Two years of eligibility remaining.

Will he have to sit out a year? He's already used his free transfer and I don't know why he'd get an exemption. I don't fully understand the new rules yet.

I think he's undersized and the hype about his speed didn't amount to much, but I think that was partially due to the system not setting enough screens.

Still, I didn't see him making a ton of mistakes and he was willing to drive more than others.

I think he'd be a reliable role player. If he wants to start he needs to go to something like the MAC or Horizon.

Neither do I.

Saunders and Zach Harvey both just committed to Will Wade at McNeese St however.

Maybe they're both "grad transfers"?

First Tari, now Saunders and Harvey. Will Wade going after Brannen recruits, lol. Maybe he'll try to get MAW and Davenport too.

18/19 Bearcat Redshirt LaQuill Hardnett is transferring from Buffalo for his final year of eligibility.

Averaged 11 and 7 while starting 18 of 31 games for their 15-17 team last season.

Davenport to Arkansas. Good to see him go to another high major program. Hopefully he can be successful as a high energy shooting spark there.

Arkansas attempted 15.9 3s/game last season as a team which put them at 350th in the nation. They only hit 31.3% of those attempts (326th nationally).

Seems like he was recruited to fill a pretty particular role/need.

They also play more positionless with a bunch of 6'4 to 6'9 guys. Davenport will fit well in that scheme. We're very rigid positionally, and it was hard to hide JD's flaws that way.

Jarrett Hensley commits to Southern Illlinois.

They were 23-10 last season (KenPom #139) and finished 3rd in the MVC before losing to conference champion Drake in the MVC tournament semi-finals.
