Furman

I don't see how you look back and see Rap having two solid games. He was bad enough in the first two games that Brannen took him out of the starting lineup and stopped playing him at the 4. His defense has been bad every game.

Rap has had two bad games and a terrible one. Thus far it doesn't look like he should be playing at this level.

And harvey has had a year of dud...

Yupp. Too it makes a lot of sense, these guys just don't jump out at me. For some reason I could look at Gary, Kieth, Caupain and be like these guys are going to be solid we can win with them they may even get a sniff at the league. Its something about this saunders kid that just isn't resonating too me I don't knw maybe it's all that blonde hair and spuratic rushed play hes bringing to the table. I mean, Cumberland did have a mohawk but at least he had an attitudish mystic about him, if we were playing pick up 5 just off eye test who would you pick? I just get a silly vibe from dude I never would of recruited these guys. I like fremantle and that other transfer Xavier got tho, you know the one that checked in and immediately knocked down a 3.. Our guys are looking like "the replacements" awkward in regards to past guys we used to recruit as of right now I'm not seeing or feeling a NBA pipeline, I feel like were in a lump with all the other programs now I'm not sure what our identity is as a program right now

What in the world does hair color or style have anything to do with this?

So you think 5/9 11pts, 6 rbs is terrible, he’s shooting 54% on the year, avg 5 rbs. His defensive isn’t good but he is certainly a productive enough piece on offense. You act like he’s terrible but Diarra is still playing pretty well..

His plus/minus was -12 against Furman because his defense was horrible. Stats don't measure defense, I don't deny that he has looked reasonably good (though not as good as expected) on offense, but I don't care how many points a guy scores if he gives up more.

Brannen has obviously already taken notice, he took Rap out as a starter and stopped playing Rap at the 4. Unfortunately (so far at least), he is even worse at the 5 defensively than he is at the 4.

Diarra played better than Rap against Furman. Diarra has his own issue, but if Rap continues to play like he has, Diarra should be getting the majority of backup minutes at the 5.

You should be a recruiter, schools would pay big money for a guy that can see these things after 2 minutes of gameplay or even zero minutes of play in masons case.

I want to see guys contribute more points than they give up. I don't care if that is 2 to 0 or 50 to 48. I know that is hard to judge because you can't just look at just their play, but how they impact those around them.

Rap has a ton of defensive breakdowns, he makes Vogt look like a good defensive center. If Rap were anywhere near as bad on the offensive end as he is on defense, nobody would want to play him. He commits bad fouls, isn't a good rebounder and had a number of mental breakdowns (such as charging the guy who we are letting shoot threes and giving him an easy drive - twice in a period of less than 5 minutes). He would need to be a star on the offensive end to make up for how bad he is on defense and thus far he is not.

I dislike Vogt, but I've still said that he would be reasonable as a backup, he just shouldn't be a starter. Rap has not belonged on the court and has been especially bad at center.

You say this, but also want dou to play. A guy that when he is in the game, the coach that sees him play everyday, feels like we need to play a 1-3-1 when he is in the game. Because he is so lost.

He doesn't play the 1-3-1 because Diarra is in the game, he brings Diarra into the game to play the 1-3-1. It is something we practice and play because of Diarra's unique size/athleticism as a way to throw teams out of rhythm (though I'd debate it's effectiveness because we give up corner threes and don't rebound well out of it).

I don’t think that’s true

Well let's hope Eason solves a big portion of both of these issues. If he can get in the 30 mpg range soon that would help a lot. Then we have a lot less exposure to Rap and Diara. I think we will see Vogt and Eason for 25-30 mpg and then Rap and Diara about 10 mpg before too long. Davenport will play some 4 as well.

Furman put up a good fight at Alabama. They had a double digit lead with under 10 minutes left, but ended up losing 83-80. Furman was destroyed on the glass, outrebounded 49-28, including giving up 21 offensive rebounds.

Mounce was out almost the entire 2nd half with foul trouble. He had 21 pts in 16 minutes on the night. They couldn't do much without him. If he plays 25-30 minutes they win that game easy

Furman is good.

I don’t think anyone debated that.

It’s just I always expect to win on my home floor and I always expect to beat teams that we paid cash to come play us

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure who disagrees here but that doesn't make those games a given because that's what we want/expect to see. You still have to play the game. Home court is not much of an advantage right now. Furman is good and we beat them...

Do we have to put an asterisk behind the wins and blow the losses out of proportion? Can't we just be patient and see what develops? I mean the same thing happened under Cronin...after a loss we must really suck and after a win it was because we should have won. That's not how it works. You have to play the games. Sometimes there are unexpected outcomes.

Can we just let Brannen make his adjustments and see how they turn out? If you ask some fans he could be anywhere from terrible to great...but I don't think there is enough data to be deciding these things yet.

I propose we take 5 games at a time and make some assessments rather than 1 game hot takes. Everyone and their mother (and grandma) knows Keith and Chris needed to stay out of foul trouble. That is not a fresh take. Let's see if CJB can get them to dial it back a bit and stay in the game. Obviously it's paramount to success this season. If not it's a long road...if he can get them to respond....we have a different team.

I have no idea how you took any negativity from my post, I literally said Furman is good.

But I’m not gonna be proud that we be Furman and that’s jewel of our Jin conference schedule.

The reality is... we blew it. We blew the opportunity to have a good non conference

That doesn’t mean we won’t in the conference but it means that if you want to make the ncaa tourney, you have to beat Georgia and you have to likely win 15 games in conference assuming you even play them all.

Im gonna enjoy hopefully watching this team grow but that doesn’t mean we should lower the standard
