Just wish DD could have just a bit more play making. Keith is running circles around our next best point creator. MAW was again kind of MIA. Harvey could not get anything going. Davenport cannot put the ball on the ground to score. Rap...how the hell did that guy beat us?

Mikey outside one turnover had solid minutes again. Davenport did very well. Eason is very valuable. Vogt....meh. Dou...ehh.

The role he's taking on now he probably hasn't had since high school. Playing primarily off the ball last season with an elite pass-first point guard running the offense, 90% of his points came from wide open catch-and-shoot looks.

Later in the game tonight he started to be a bit more aggressive with the ball. Hopefully he can become a more consistent scorer as the season goes on. It's nice that he can impact the game in other ways though.

Rap was a disaster late in the game, thought he nearly lost us the game. He gave up two easy drives by charging out on Slawson, the guy who we were giving space because he couldn't make threes. He also gave up a wide open three to a good shooter. He also couldn't rebound when we played the 1-3-1. His defense was bad all night. He did have a few nice passes and one nice drive, but overall his offense was nothing special either and his good plays are negated by his bad shot selection.

I criticize Vogt's defense, but Vogt at least knows what to do, he just doesn't always have the physical ability to do what he needs to. Rap doesn't play good mental defense and his physical limitations exacerbate that.

Dou played reasonably well, still made some defensive mistakes as well - playing his man too tight and getting beat on the drive. He is one of the few players on the team who makes a good effort to get offensive rebounds. He should at least be getting the backup 5 minutes before Rap does.

Keith was the star we need him to be and also rebounded well, Davenport played a solid game, DeJulius was solid and rebounded well - would be nice if he could drive more, he's effective at it when he does. MAW had a lot of issues guarding their back-cuts, though he's the guy we want at the line late in games. Harvey didn't really do anything, Eason played well though still has some freshman mistakes - he should be our starting 4 going forwards as there's not much competition - only other guy who you could argue should start at the 4 is Davenport.

We need to find a way to get Vogt the ball more against teams like this. I believe over half of Vogt's points were off set plays we ran on the first possession after Vogt subbed in. But when Brannen isn't calling the play, we don't do very well at getting Vogt the ball. If Vogt isn't scoring, he's a net liability (though not as big of one as Rap is).

Dd is becoming solid. Didn't shoot it well. 9 boards.

Rap had a rough game. He will. He will be important.

Davenport making threes would be a nice added bonus.

I'm not sure you can play harvey right now.

Tari shows some serious flashes.

You wouldn’t say Keith had a good game? He’s the only sure fire player we have to score. Eason may be our 2nd most valuable very soon

After looking at the box score, I think he had a good game. When watching the game, I thought he still forced some shots, which is what the best player has to do some times, missed free throws. My point was I thought he could have played better and he had 27 points. That’s how effortless it looks for him sometimes.

I didn’t think Harvey was bad, just didn’t do much. He looks like he’s finding his role, how he fits in. I think he’s best as a playmaker but we have other players in that position at the moment

Here's an interesting stat from last night:

Vogt (19:18) and Rap (19:45) both played for nearly an identical amount of time.

Vogt's +/- was 17.

Rap's was -12.

I think that’s about how much Vogt should play. He can be an issue for the other team if they are in foul trouble and undersized. That’s when he is most valuable in my opinion

As bad as rap was last night, I get why he was in there. We were looking for a bucket for an extended period of time

Yah Rap was awful. He probably needs to be around 10-15 back up minutes at this point unfortunately.

Also, I don't know who's gonna make plays when Williams is out. I still think we are going to need Harvey down the road.

Based on what? What has harvey done to show any value..

Rap has had two solid games and a dud.

we can't play vogt and rap together in this one right? geez.

I'm willing to get just Tari go and live with it. He'll defend and grab boards. Something has to happen at the 4/5 and nobody else seems capable of defending.

Pay me later coach

Rap just really struggles. I cannot believe how slow his feet are. Makes Vogt's defense look amazing by comparison.

But he has to play because there's nobody else. Its an indictment on the lack of growth from Dou.

Eason was good.
Saunders solid.
Thought dou was fine.
Vogt had good energy and effort.

Needs for next year
Big, shooter

I'm ready to see Harvey cut into MAWs minutes a bit. Harvey was great game one, and then didn't play game 2 and looked tentative last night. But he has the highest ceiling of all the underclassmen guards.

MAW struggles with athleticism and couldn't keep up last night with Furman. That was rough to see. Ive never really seen MAW get whooped on the defensive end like that before.

We need another wing to take pressure off Keith and I just don't think MAW is that guy.

I think that’s the issue I’m seeing is that MAW is good compliment to other players. But he ain’t a star. He ain’t the guy we want leading us to the promised land.

We have one highly touted guard on this team that was recruited as a freshman and he is putting up the same numbers mason madsen who hasn’t seen the floor yet.

If we are planning on winning 15 games next year, it’s gonna be because of a guy like Zach Harvey reaching his potential.

Harvey (along with MAW) showed some nice flashes when he was aggressive and attacked the basket against Lipscomb.

Most of that action happened with Keith on the bench in foul trouble and the offense in desperate need of a guard to make some plays.

With Keith playing 30+ minutes over the last two games, it seems like the other guards alongside him are more comfortable deferring attacking responsibilities to him.

It's crazy how we didn't have a guard other than Keith make a 2-point bucket until the 6:30 mark of the 2nd half last night. That shot by Dejulius ended up being the only one of the game.

Last year Harvey was earning minutes on defense. So he is probably just as capable as most of the wings in that regard. But in game one you saw his additional skills on display. He can shoot a little and he can probably work his defender for a shot better than anyone other than Keith right now.

Not sure what is keeping him on the bench right now. He's only got one TO so far. It's either the injury holding him back (lack of practice) or he not doing what CJB is asking him to. Injury or doghouse. if it's injury I would expect him to gradually see more minutes. If it's doghouse I would expect the same if he wants to play. If it's attitude and that keeps him off the floor then he will likely transfer. I hope he sucks it up and puts the effort in to get on the floor either way. Keith is likely to get in some foul trouble this year and we will need Harvey to score.

Our leading rebounder this year is a 6'0" PG at 20 rebounds. He is 4 clear of Rap and 7 clear of Vogt.

total team rebounding. Vogt might not be able to get anything out of his zone, but he keeps his man away. right now after 3 games we are giving up the 2nd lowest % of offensive rebounds in the country

None of the teams we've played are that great at offensive rebounding, but xavier is average and we gave up none.

3 games doesn't mean a whole lot, but our OR% against last year wasn't below 20 for 2 straight games all year. This year its been 8%, 0%, and 20%.

Hopefully its a trend that sticks because we've really struggled with it for a while
