Mick was LITERALLY hands on with satterfield and Garcia. Was instrumental in getting other two. I doubt he was lead recruiter on jenifer.

Well Garcia didn't go to UC so who cares? And neither Satterfield or Garcia committed to a school to play for Mick Cronin so again, who cares?

What does any of that have to do with Jenifer? Jenifer is no where near the level of recruit of any of the people you keep referencing.

Where were those guys ranked in 7th grade????;)

What are you basing this on? rankings? If so, Logan wasn't some highly regarded talent. I believe Dean and Garcia were top 100 recruits but not 5*. So only Satterfield was a heralded recruit.

If you are basing it on results than it's completely too early to tell and your statement has no basis.

I'm basing it on reality. Garcia and Satterfield were both big time recruits, look it up. Not sure about Dean nor do I care, he didn't even go to UC so again what the hell are we talking about?? Logan was an Ohio kid which makes it a little bit different. The caliber of player that was being recruited to UC or Louisville at those times was a much higher level. Those kids weren't going to UL or UC to play for Mick either, so it's insane to say he recruited them. He might have ran point on their recruitment but they didn't sign a LOI to play for Mick as their HC, so enough already.

I'm not even sure what the argument is here. My only point is that I hope Jenifer is great but it's ridiculous for people to be predicting all time assists leader and stealing Caupain's job after a scrimmage and an exhibition.

I'm just pointing out that the blatant homerism on this board is comical. If you want to talk about all time great players who've you've never seen play in a real game or Final 4 trips after seeing 2 fake games have at it, but you're not contributing to any kind of intelligent discussion on this board.

Justin Jenifer isn't a top 100 recruit, he ranked 33rd at his own position, he's a 3 star recruit, he didn't have offers from UNC, Duke, UK, Kansas, ect for a reason. THOSE ARE ALL FACTS........they can't be argued. I hope he develops into the best PG we've ever had and that he's starting by the middle of this season because I agree that Caupain off the ball would be better for the team. That however is a long shot, be patient with the kid and give him time and eventually he'll be a strong player I'm sure. Might not happen this season though, and that's okay.

I looked it up. Garcia was #71 in the RCSI. Debatable whether that is considered "big time". Either way, I'm not hyping up Jenifer and agree that there is probably a little too much hype on him here but I'm hoping it's justified. And Mick was THE main recruit for Saterfield and Garcia and was a huge reason why they went to UC/UL. I know it hurst someone like you to hear that, but it's the truth.

UCBearcats, I think you are getting too wrapped up in what he was ranked. No one is saying he is a 1 and done. And I personally think he'll be 8th or 9th on the team in scoring this year. But we don't need him to be better than that right now. I'm excited bc he fits so well into what we want to do. We are looking to have a "no huddle" offense. He fits that style to a T. He is a change of pace guy. He is a great ball handler and passer. He is a perfect compliment to Caupain. He doesn't have to be a 15 ppg lottery pick, who was recruited heavily by all the blue bloods to have a big impact here this year for OUR team. I will basically be focused on his AST/40 minutes and AST/TO this year. We don't need more than that out of him at this point. But that doesn't mean he won't have a big impact on the game...bc he fits OUR style and what we're trying to do. So maybe he wouldn't work for UK, KU, or Duke, but he definitely works for our current roster.

Well, nobody was really arguing until somebody felt the need to be offended by fan enthusiasm and start calling people trolls, ridiculous, excessive homers, not contributing to any kind of intelligent discussion, etc. I thought the "new" Bearcattalk policy banned personal attacks, but evidently not.

This is a fan discussion board and that usually means that all levels of enthusiasm are expected. I don't give a rat's a$$ where Jenifer was ranked and whether or not Kentucky, NC, Duke, Kansas, etc. recruited him. Kentucky was in the NIT 3 years ago and lost to Robert Morris in the 1st round with their highly rated, star studded recruits, so putting more stock in that flawed system than in what we see with our own eyes is less intelligent in my opinion. Darnell Wilkes was a 4-star, Biggie McClain was a 4-star, Yancy Gates was a 5-star. How did those highly rated players pan out? There are many 3-star players that have been phenomenal stars throughout college basketball.

But, I'll try to temper my enthusiasm about some of our players, and I'll make sure I research each players rating stars before I launch into enthusiasm and superlatives so as to not further degrade the level of intelligent discussion on this board.

Since you obviously read the "new" policy...you are already aware you must use the report function if you want the mods to review a post/poster. You are also aware the mods aren't policing the boards...just voting on whether reported posts are breaking a rule or not.

So... You're saying kids don't take notice of the staff? I think it's a bit pretentious, to say that no recruiter matters. At that point, why even pay assistants to recruit? Why not just throw some kid fresh out of high school out to do it?

I don't think he'll steal Caupain's "job", but the fact is, he may be necessary to get the offense moving at times. There's no reason imo, to assume he can't be a better point than Caupain. I think Caupain is the better scorer, but he isn't nearly the facilitator Jenifer is. As for the all time assists bit, I think it's possible. He's a tremendous passer, no need to throw a fit about the kid having talent.

Look at our point guard play before Jenifer(during Mick's tenure), now watch him distribute. If you can't see the difference, you're either blind or in no position to criticize anyone's intelligence. I agree some people are going overboard, but you need to understand, that excitement doesn't exist in a vacuum. People can see he's going to be special. He's physically mature, he has a good handle, he's calm and he has great vision. That's something we haven't had here in a PG in over a decade. Cope with it.

Justin Jenifer isn't a top 100 recruit, he ranked 33rd at his own position

That depends on what recruiting service you're looking at and honestly, those people's guesses aren't any bit better than the ones on this board.

he's a 3 star recruit
So was SK, he also happens to be the second leading all time scorer next to Oscar.

he didn't have offers from UNC, Duke, UK, Kansas, ect for a reason.

He had one from Georgetown, Miami and Memphis. There's kids in those school's recruiting classes with offers from blue chippers, so do they just not know how to recruit? If no, then why the discrepancy?

THOSE ARE ALL FACTS........
That he wasn't offered by the 4 teams you mentioned is a fact, that it's because of his inherent skill level/ability and not someone else's, is an opinion.

Someone like you to hear that??? Not sure what that means but that's cute.......and both ESPN and Rivals ranked him in the Top 30......so take what source you'd prefer but again who cares???? He didn't play for UC.

Any recruit that has committed to UC since Mick became the HC is Mick's recruit, even the one's his assistants recruited still count as Mick's recruits. Just like the players Mick recruited for Pitino and Huggins count as recruits for Pitino and Huggins. That's the way it works in reality......

Can people also stop comparing Jenifer to Tyler Ulis???????? Ulis was a 5 star recruit and an All-American. They're both short but I think that's where the comparisons end.

Let's get one thing straight. National scouts are all better evaluators of talent than any member of this board. Don't get that twisted...

Oh give me a break..........I haven't said anything remotely offensive to anyone. Not to mention I haven't called you anything.

However, if you'd like to ban me then go ahead, I'll find something else to fill my bored time at work. It's not like I'm taking any valuable information away from reading any of these threads anyways.

It's just a bunch of homers making obnoxiously ridiculous statements and telling everyone to "trust them" so they can come back 6 months later and say I told you so.

If you don't care so what you ain't got to respond something wasn't your business in first place.

Lol! Once again, I never said to ban you. I said the board policy banned the use of personal attacks. Calling someone a troll, or ridiculous, or lacking intelligence actually is personal. Does it deserve to get you banned? Probably not, but maybe a gentle slap on the wrist. Some of us could have responded to you in the same way, but we held back for the good of the board. I'm glad to see I've now moved from ridiculous to obnoxiously ridiculous though.

Put ur money where mouth is?!?!?! I'll eat you and other so called experts that NEVER played before for lunch. How hard is it evaluating 6'7-6'9 14-15 year olds. The real money is made evaluating the sk, Caupain and Ellis of worlds. Most experts and you know it just go off size.
