I don't understand why everyone is so worried about where the Bearcats are ranked? Rankings don't matter. They are an opinion poll of a bunch of people that have never seen half of the teams play a single game. The only thing that matters this year is getting into the NCAA Tourney. You can't use KenPom numbers to analyze a team's NCAA Tourney worthiness because the committee doesn't use them. They do use your overall record, SOS, Conference Record, Bad Losses (based on RPI standing), Quality Wins (based on RPI standing), Conference RPI and your RPI. Based on this fact, you cannot discount the RPI and UC's ranking in it and how many Top 25 RPI wins they have.

I argued the same thing when Mick complained about not being ranked higher.

You standard of "decent" and that of the Committee are different.

Xavier was a top 25 win (lost last night to a bad UNC Charlotte team: ohhh the rigors of the A10!). Oklahoma just beat Baylor, improving to 13-9 (4-3), I think. Miami Oxford won, and Wright State is winning. Also, Dayton beat St.Bonnie last night.

Xavier is better than a decent win, even though I hate admitting that fact. Dayton and Wright State are also considered top 100 wins.

Okay, fine, they may be better than "decent". Top 100 wins only do so much. Xavier as I said before was not a good team. Charlotte (what are they, 10-12 now?) proved that. The rpi is flawed because it gives you a lot of points for playing, and LOSING, to good teams. Xavier has played, and LOST, to a lot of good teams so they have a good RPI for now.

I'm not sure what Oklahoma, Miami (9-12 = not good), Wright St (btw they have lost 3 out of their last 6 so I'm not sure how that is "winning"), and Dayton have much to do with anything. Those are not good teams.

Sure and I don't have a problem with your argument. At the same time, I understood where Mick was coming from. As a coach you use what is at your disposal to get an edge. All coaches do it. I just don't think fans should care where we are ranked.

I'm thinking that exact opposite. Fans should care where they are ranked and coaches shouldn't. JMO.

I can see your point as to why it doesn't really matter where a team is ranked, but IMO it is important to be ranked. Especially for a team like UC, who IMO is still rebuilding. When you are ranked, your highlights are shown on sportscenter, you are talked about more. Even if you are just 25th, your highlights are shown. Now, playing so many ranked teams UC's highlights are still shown, but it's nice to have a ranking next to your name. While that's not a big deal for the current team, I do think it helps recruiting out.
