38 points 2nd half bc we didn't go slow as molasses. That really benefits Shaq. 5 steals for Cobb. Props to Clark. I don't know if I want Ellis on the team. He should've already been on a short leash and now he's been booted twice. Mick put his own name on the line to get Ellis back...I don't like dirty players and that play was dirty as hell.

Lefty, I have no problem with the things you bring up, but do it in the right thread. The Xavier thread and this one were taken over by that stuff. These are game threads. People who don't post everyday click here to see about the game. That whole list of things can certainly be discussed but just do it in the right place. I enjoyed the convo in the LD vs. Mick thread bc I knew what I was getting myself into. I'm reading through all this just now and instead of hearing about the game, I hear about needing to switch to Nike and stuff. Again, the topic is fair game, but it shouldn't be in this thread. Don't stop posting. All opinions are welcome, just either start a new thread or put it in an already existing one on the topic.

I don't hear any people ever discuss Mick's TV show, but I watch every one of them. He was as prophetic this week as he has ever been. These are direct quotes right from Mick's mouth.

"The reality of the situation is, you're never as bad as you play at times, and you're never as good as you play at time. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth."

"My biggest concern is if we have enough juice to get to the end of the season, especially without the veterans. It's this time of the year when the veterans get the job done."

"You have to go through tough times to become a good team."

"It's would be foolish for anyone to think that things would be different if I was coaching."

Impressive thoughts in light of what happened tonight.

All good thoughts but let's be honest if who coaches doesn't matter schools wouldn't worry about who they hire. It's a head coaches job to deflect from his players and staff. I admire the loyalty of this head coach to both and the staff and players loyalty to their head coach.

I'll say. Would it really be foolish to think that? The rest of what he said, besides the last specific comment, is generic coachism boilerplate. Any coach could say any of that about any team, winning or losing. Since I hate what-ifs, though, I'll let the LD vs Mick thing die.

I love Ellis on our team he shouldn't have done what he did but he brings the scrappy hard nosed dirty Cincinnati basketball that I grew up with and fell in love with. He plays with emotion sometimes it gets the best of him he knew he was wrong tonight he went over to knowles after the foul and gave him a hug, all is fine with Ellis in my book

His head has always been his problem the young man has had a rough life.

A good manager is one where the corporation doesn't miss a beat whether you're there or not. Those coaches were his hires and should be an extension of the head coach. In this case, Mick is still heavily involved, just not in the games and not directly at practice. You're just completely assuming that things would be better if he was coaching. There's a possibility that the season could have been worse. We'll never know. It's a opinion that nobody will ever be able to prove. To pull a win out of this mess tonight is something not many coaches could have accomplished. LD pulled them together. Kudos to him.

Ellis is very important part of this team. I agree that he reminds me of Bearcat's past. I didn't think he should have been kicked off the team in the first place.

I've been tougher on LD than anyone and I'll say this...
The guys don't quit on him. Some stretches are horrendous but we still see players trying. We could've folded up shop against Temple and lost by 31 the way they lost to us, but we still fought. Same with the Xavier game down 12 at half, and tonight being down by 10? at most and just had a guy ejected.

It was a good win yes. I remember instances where head coaches left and things got worse. There's not a better manager in college basketball than Coach K and look what happened to Duke when he went down. But we will let this go.

This is right on the money jacobkdoyle. For a long time reader of this site, I specifically enjoy the game threads. The game thread tonight was one of the worst in awhile. Hopefully the rest of the season we can keep it more on topic because I do enjoy reading. It's nice seeing people so emotional about this program. I hope we can all realize that's why we are here. It can be draining reading all of this bickering when I come here to get my Bearcat Fix in.

Yes / RT @RyanMarkovic: Can you confirm that Coach Davis said on postgame that league called UC & said Ellis shouldn't have been ejected?

Happened to be in attendance tonight - good contingent of UC fans, actually was invited to a pre game dinner of UC alums living in Houston but unfortunately had to miss that part. Very nice to get that invite though and happy to see fellow Bearcats there.

Intimate little arena, would be a fantastic home court advantage for UH if...well, you know. Behind me, banners for Olajuwon, Drexler, Elvin Hayes. Great history there, sad to see it deteriorate into crowds of 900 and male baton twirlers.

Caupain, KJ, Sanders all took turns sitting with the coaches. They were instructed to do so.

Absolutely lifeless in the 1st half. Shaq and Shaq alone came to play. He was posting hard, and taking hard aggressive lanes to the rim. It occurred to me after the Xavier game when we were talking about pace that his game is the one that suffers most with the pace we play at. His game is built for the open floor, not low possession games against 2-3 zones. Give him a ton of credit for keeping the 'Cats in the game and then seizing control in the 2nd half.

Cobb seemed hesitant on his shot (gun shy due to the miss on Wednesday?) but he did affect the game with his defense, especially early in the 2nd half.

I thought they looked very interesting playing small with Clark essentially at the 5. Crisp ball movement, quick decision making and guys rotated to open spots and actually hit the open shots they took! Very active on defense as well.

Troy is obviously struggling with his role. I liked the 2nd half aggression but the kid couldn't buy one. I was praying he would keep taking it. Don't let a few short shots or missed bunnies deter from the idea, which was good.

Shaq hit a big 3 late in the game with the 'Cats up 2. Great, but why on 2 straight possessions did he wind up with the ball in his hand late in the shot clock? Someone has to take charge of running a damn play and it's not fair to Shaq to put him on the spot like that. Again, kudos for hitting the shot but it's a shot he shouldn't have had to take and it's not the first time it's happened.

Bottom line - 3 straight games now they've played like an NCAA tournament team in the 2nd half of a game. That speaks to LD and the staff's ability to make adjustments at halftime. Their ability to motivate a team and keep them focused game to game? Not so good. First Moore, now Morman suspended. Vexing to say the least.

Glad to be there in person and witness the 'Cats. It's not the every single home game gig I was doing back in the day, but I'll take what I can get down here in Texas.

Sometimes as you're turning your life around, there are small setbacks along the way. He seems like a good person to me and a good teammate. I don't have a lot of problems with anything he has done this year. Some of these things are a split second decision where he just reacts in a slightly stupid way. I've seen a thousand times more flagrant fouls than his little push tonight. He needs continuous coaching and guidance. He's a work in progress and we'll just have to live with the setbacks until we get the Bearcat that we want.

Really!? Man, that play was a straight 2 handed shove on a guy going in the air.

I agree that this is not a great Houston team but Sampson is a good coach and they played hard. They have a couple nice pieces but it's easy to break them down defensively and devolve them into one on one stuff. But look at their last 5:

-Beat UConn
-13 point loss to Tulsa
-6 point loss to SMU
-2 point loss @ UCF
-2 point loss @ USF

So, they're not great but they give good effort and have been in quite a few games. Would be nice for Sampson to bring them to respectability but man, what a task. I'll be the Alabama-UH baseball game on their campus tonight drew a bigger crowd.

There's a lot of complaining about LD's substitutions and rotations. The reality is that I'm not sure Coach K or any other coach could figure this group out. We've given up on just about every player and banished them all to Siberia at some point in this season, only to see each of them come back and lead the team to victory from time to time. Shaq and KJ are at the top of the leaderboard for being given up on at various times this season, yet here they were tonight leading the team to victory. The team is an enigma. They leave you scratching your head often.

An enigma and also an enema, as I crap myself in frustration/worry with them sometimes.
