How do you feel about this season? 2016-17

Fun season to watch this year. Can't stand the talking heads in the sports media but it seems they finally took notice of Cincinnati this year and were forced to give them a little credit. Very excited for next year, and already praying not to get hosed in the brackets like we did this year.

A GOOD year for the Cats. Probably the best overall season Mick and co have put together. This season should be something for them to build on and the staff needs to continue to up the recruiting and bring in guys who can score. Being tough and playing defense is only going to get a team so far, if UC wants to raise the bar as a program they need more kids on the roster who can score and the offense as a whole needs to continue to improve.

If Mick could ever assemble a roster that could really score and played a more fluid offense that didn't rely completely on jump shooting we could be very dangerous. We're always going to play great D and we're always going to be tough, if we could add consistent scoring to the mix then look out.

Bottom line for this season, good not great and another year of not good enough. The bar did rise so it needs to rise again next year. Hopefully by year 15 or 20 Mick will be able to #makeucgreatagain

We will see if the media took notice when preseason Top 25 comes out. I used to think it didn't matter but, I think it is needed respect these days if you want to get a good seed in the NCAA tourney. It's too hard to climb the ladder of the top 25 when you play in a garbage conference and have a hard time scheduling good teams OOC because they don't want to play you.

If we aren't ranked in the preseason top 25, I'd be shock. I think we could be 15-20, but you never know

You mean like smu did this year and still only got a 6 seed?

glad you pointed this out. it unfortunately doesn't look like either SMU or UC could have done anything differently to get higher than a 6 (save one of the teams sweeping the other).

Maybe I'm just a homer but I think we're going to be preseason Top 15 in a lot of people's polls. As stupid as it is, that can help our seed.

For this being Mick Cronins "best team," I expected more. The highlight of our year was beating Xavier, plain and simple. I want to get to a point where thats not the ONLY highlight of our year. We have to get a top 4 seed in the tourney to avoid these awful first round matchups. That means WINNING the conf reg season and conf tourney for once. You want to be first class elite program, it starts with dominating this mediocre conference.

You seriously think beating Xavier is the only highlight of this season?

And how about going 16-2 and playing in the league championship game. That kinda seems like dominating in a mediocre league to me. Obviously would be nice to win it, but really?

Conference ceiling.

This is all going to depend on overall record and whether or not we see a few more teams in the top 50. Uconn will be there next year. SMU should as well as UC...maybe even all top 25 if we are lucky. Maybe we can get 1-2 more teams in the top 50. This year we had only 2 and that hurt...but this was a down year.

If the conference improves as it should and we maintain a similar record we should be able to break the ceiling. Hopefully we can manage to find a couple of OOC games that help...easier said than done. Maybe we have to take an away game with no return game...IDK. Maybe we can give a home and home to some good mid majors.

SMU could have played a much better non conference and UC could have won at Butler or against Rhode Island to set up a matchup with Duke.

I agree, they could have done more. If they win the games on their schedule and only lost a game or 2, they are probably a 1-2 seed. If they beat duke, and bulter they are definetly a high seed. It's hard to do but that's what it takes. People saying there is nothing we could have done I disagree with

that's a good point. wasn't considering OOC and i should have been.

though this convo started with:

, so that's where my mind was.

In a very general sense, I think this year was extremely positive for UC basketball. The perception of who we are is very good. We got a lot of exposure and are known as a Tournament lock. We are also shifting into the modern game better than most college teams. And that's not just lip service. And we haven't had to sacrafice the core of what UC basketball was built on. Knowing we can have a Top 10 defense AND dynamic offensive players is very encouraging.

The highlight of the year was beating Xavier for the 5th time in th last 15 years?

And then having them still go further in the tourney than us.

Yikes. I hope not

Let's dig a little:

OK, great 30-6, but let's be honest UC plays in a BAD league, and beat up on mostly bad teams this season, except Iowa State and SMU, out of there first 35 games, YIKES! Bottom line, until UC gets in a better conf. beating up on bad teams doesn't help you win, when you play in the NCAA Tour. I really think Marvin Cronin, and Mick Lewis are the same person, weird huh.

I feel like this year we came out of our shell a bit and stepped into the spotlight. Being ranked all year was something we weren't shy about wanting bc our team legitimately knew they belonged there. No smoke and mirrors. Built on a solid and true foundation. My complaint last year was that at times it didn't feel like we were part of the sport bc we were so hell-bent on being different. This year just showed me that we can have our cake and eat it too. It seems like more former players have been coming out in support of these guys. It's a comfortable place to be. I think Coach Cronin let his guard down a little and really let people into the program. That shows me how secure and confident he is in what's going on. Very positive. It'd be nice to win a few more big games moving forward. Like, I fully expect to win our early season tournament next year for one, and I'd like us to be better on the road. But we took some very nice steps. I remember in the past Coach would mention "goals that we didn't talk about". It was so secretive. I feel like that stems from not truly believing. But this year it was no secret that we wanted a league title, that we wanted to cut down some nets, etc. And I for one won't knock them for anything bc at least we put ourselves out there and went for it. That attitude breeds confidence, and it can only be a good thing for the guys left for the coming years.

it's all BS until this team gets into a better conf. bottom line.

Just a general note: If you didn't post here at all during the 30 win season, and are just now showing up/signing up to pile on after a loss, no one is going to take you seriously.

If you can get us in one, I'm sure no one will stop you. But everyone of them just told us they weren't expanding anytime soon. So, if you're not going to be happy till then, you're going to be waiting awhile
