How do you feel about this season? 2016-17

If UC losing gets you excited, it might be time to have a think about your future as a fan. It's just not worth it if that's the feeling you have. I used to love the Bengals. I don't anymore. I'll be happy if they're good, but they simply aren't worth the stress. Being a sports fan is supposed to be fun. If you can honestly look back at this basketball season and take away zero positives, maybe take a step back and decide if the disappointment you feel is worth losing years off of your life over. Spoiler: It's not. We have no control over this stuff. I'll take the word of the fans who lived through the 80s...it can be WAY worse. Going 30-6 is so far from being considered unacceptable it's laughable. So again, if you have your panties all twisted in a bunch today, take a step back and think about why you became a fan in the first place.

Does anybody have any worries/suspicions about players transferring out?

The only possibility I can think of is Jenifer, but I hope he's not considering it by any means.

Yeah, I would be highly surprised if someone transfers out. Everyone seems extremely happy here and all such good friends.

I have a strong feeling we will get a transfer this year. Kids will see how happy our team is and love making it to the dance each year and lets face it we are able to win games. Whether it be because we are in a bad conference or we are just a good team or a mixture of both but we get wins and we get to the dance. That sells itself.

We got some really good publicity this year. A lot of positives around the program along with a new arena. Top 20 ranked basically all year long.

I can't see it. Jenifer paid his dues behind Caupain as an underclassman, why leave now? Even if Broome is good, Jenifer will still have plenty opportunity to get run. By all accounts he's a hard worker and is committed to buying in and getting better. We saw the growth from FR to SO year. Even if he's never the starter, he could have a nice career here and be a rotation guy on some really good teams. I guess he could go to a smaller school if he just wanted to put up numbers, but a guy like Broome is right there to tell him it's not worth going that route. I think an underrated part of the culture we have here is that the players are close. I'm sure it'd be tough for him to just break off the friendships he has on the team. I feel like that's probably part of the reason why Quadri Moore has stayed with it.

Exactly...I was watching end of R.I. and Oregon game and the analysts said something about R.I. becoming better towards the end of the season because they started hanging out more outside of basketball and becoming better friends. That sounded so weird to me because our team is all best of friends. I have seen the whole team out so many times together. Tight bunch.

Jenifer has to improve his ability to score. His passing is great, I like his pace and effort, but if you can't score at all its hard to stay on the floor. That's way I wouldn't mind a another Back up PG

This was one of the most enjoyable seasons in recent memory for me as a Bearcats fan. One loss to a crazy good team will not change that for me. Excited for next year and saddened this year is over. In my mind, 30-6 far exceeds what I expected this year. I'd call it extremely successful.

Jason,
I'm not picking on you post, but do u REALLY feel the season was "extremely" successful? I'd say it was a good year. We are solid first weekend team annually now , which makes me proud (I am a 3 time alum). I just cant call it more than a good or a little more than a good year. Sweet 16 would have been a great year, and E-8 extremely good. Esp with egzz in S16. I know our reg season was better than theirs.

I feel like we're a sweet 16 or elite 8 team that got put up against one of the top teams in the nation because of east coast bias. UCLA lost 4 games all season. @USC (a tourny team), @Oregon (a 3 seed), and twice to Arizona (a 2 seed) one on the road and one during the conference tournament. Theye had absolutely no bad losses at all and somehow are seeded higher then teams with 8 losses. We (along with UCLA) got the absolute shaft due to their miss seeding. I think we handle pretty much any other 3 seeded team.

Unfortunately I really disagree. After watching other teams, I see the talent disparity. Our 3*s have talent, but look at Jacob. He would be a 4.5* if he was more aggressive. That's the difference. That's what makes some players better. He is my fav player, and I know he is a So. But look at the guy from UCF I think it was, BJ Tyler? Aggressive. I guess earlier in the year I thought we were almost E-8 talent (partly bc of Kyle's start), but looking back and seeing the 1st 2 rounds, we just aren't there yet. Yes if things fall right we could be, but we honestly are (IMHO) around top 20. That's it.

I feel like this year we came out of our shell a bit and stepped into the spotlight. Being ranked all year was something we weren't shy about wanting bc our team legitimately knew they belonged there. No smoke and mirrors. Built on a solid and true foundation. My complaint last year was that at times it didn't feel like we were part of the sport bc we were so hell-bent on being different. This year just showed me that we can have our cake and eat it too. It seems like more former players have been coming out in support of these guys. It's a comfortable place to be. I think Coach Cronin let his guard down a little and really let people into the program. That shows me how secure and confident he is in what's going on. Very positive. It'd be nice to win a few more big games moving forward. Like, I fully expect to win our early season tournament next year for one, and I'd like us to be better on the road. But we took some very nice steps. I remember in the past Coach would mention "goals that we didn't talk about". It was so secretive. I feel like that stems from not truly believing. But this year it was no secret that we wanted a league title, that we wanted to cut down some nets, etc. And I for one won't knock them for anything bc at least we put ourselves out there and went for it. That attitude breeds confidence, and it can only be a good thing for the guys left for the coming years.

What happened to Kenyon? Would have been nice to have him in Sacramento or Conn.

If you can get us in one, I'm sure no one will stop you. But everyone of them just told us they weren't expanding anytime soon. So, if you're not going to be happy till then, you're going to be waiting awhile

Literally LOL about the first sentence.

Annoyed

I still think its complete bull that they had to go about as far as possible to play games against teams from the west coast.

To have to sit there and watch, knowing they had the deck stacked against them, and see them actually have a chance and just fall short.

Really F'in annoying to say the least.

Also annoyed that they had only the 2nd 30 win season and sill couldn't win a sub par conference. Makes us look bad. (granted we should have had 30 in 2000, and also there are more total games now.)

Annoyed that SMU beat us and then proceeded to crap the bed in the first round, further staining the AAC's rep.

So yes. Annoyed is a good word to sum it up. Feel cheated somehow.

But at the same time, I feel the season was an overall success even if the end was painful and annoying.

Next year SHOULD be even better.

Wanted to mention something real quick that I noticed this morning. I think advanced stats guys will like this.

If you check out UC's SportsRef page, and sport by SRS, you'll see this past season was UC's 14th best overall season of ALL-TIME.

SRS is a rating system that takes into account average point differential + SOS, and combines them into one number.

We are a program with 31 NCAA Tournaments, 6 Final Fours, and 2 National Titles, spanning 116 seasons (although SRS doesn't go further back than 1949). I think we can all agree that it was disappointing to not see UC reach the second weekend, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching UC's 14th-best season of all-time. We also have plenty of reason to believe we'll be a little better next year as well.

I guess I just don't see the point in dwelling when you have momentum. November is going to take forever.

Its strange how a good first and second season can give you way more leniency in your later years.

Huggins peaked so early in his UC career. He lost a lot of round of 32 games at UC. A lot of them as the favorite too.

I think Cronin is just some luck away from making a big run and finally cementing himself into Most UC fans good graces.

Like look at Huggins last 9 years as a Bearcat coach: He was not a winner in the tourney.

Yet UC fans consider this the golden age, like we can never get back to it. The thing is. What we experienced this season is very much on par with what our last coach gave us. And the future looks brighter.

I've been trying to say the same thing to so many people. I was 10 or 11 when Huggs left. All I can remember is the injury and getting bounced early almost every year. I understand that I missed out on some huge years with Van Exel, etc. but looking at a season like this is exactly how Huggs teams were too....except they were 1 seeds losing this early with higher recruits.

This couldn't be more true. It's the older fans that cant get over this and move on from it. Cronin does so much and is so loyal. He's probably the only one left that could be a Cincinnati coach and consider it a dream job. Any other coach would be leaving right now for a NC St type job. I hate to say it because he has done so much for us but it almost makes me resent Huggins because I don't think it's fair for Cronin to constantly be compared to early 90s of Huggins tournament success. I'm 26 years old and all I can remember is getting bounced by Illinois, Tulsa, UCLA, Gonzaga, WVU and UK all in the first or second round. No disrespect to either coach really, just wish people would chill out over Cronin. My buddy literally had to yell at this older man at the UC/XU game that sat there and just dogged Cronin the whole time against Xavier and we won by 8 points or so. It's just nuts to me. All it does is bring negativity to a university when so much positives are going on.

I get your point, but it's not all about the tourney. Fans want to constantly be ranked, win their conference, and get a high seed. That's what people remember about Huggs. The early exits have been going on for 20 years and really aren't news to anyone.

I think we're good on the ranked part heading forward. 16-2 wins most leagues, so that's not really our fault IMO. Throw this year's resume into 1998 with a C-USA logo next to it and it gets a 3 or 4 seed (remember that we had a 12 RPI heading into the selection show), so the 6-seed still really pisses me off.

It does still feel like we're capped playing in the AAC, but as so many have said, you have to do what you can with what you have. Keep winning. I also think it's fair to say realignment is never really dead either, so you want your programs to look good at ALL TIMES. You never know when realignment will hit again. Not that hoops is a huge factor, but it still is a factor.

I personally value a regular season over a single elimination tourney. But with Cronin, I don't think most fans have given him that credit.

I do think our conference sucks BUT I don't think next year will be any where close to as bad as this year. I think we're a 4 or 5 bid league
