Junior Etou's age???

Was hearing he was going to be a long shot to qualify to begin with. JUCO will be his most likely destination I'm guessing.

One of the rules I think should be changed in D-1 b-ball is counting JUCO or D-II, D-III or whatever against D-1 years.

I just think guys like Mbodj, Nyarsuk, and Rubles could really benefit from playing 4 years of D-1 b-ball. It would also allow players to get their academics straightened out and maybe grow up a little before hitting the big time.

Or.....

They could just give every player 5 years of eligibility no matter what, and JUCO guys who already had 2 years would get 3 more.

I think if they care about the player, they would consider this.

Why mark him off the list? His age? If he is eligible to play college ball and is good enough for a scholarship at UC, why back off? Am I missing something?

You may be. I don't know the exact bylaws but there is an age limit in college basketball and if he is 21 I think he may have already lost one year of eligibility. I think after the age of 21 if you are playing in a competitive sport it counts as a year of eligibility. Of course he would still have a couple years left but if he is a project than that would be a big factor.

Also, if he lied about his age knowingly (I don't have access to the article so I don't know if that is the case or not) do you really want that recruit?

Not that its a huge part but how do you accurately evaluate his talent being 20 playing against 16 17 18 year olds. There is alot of maturing that happens there both physically and mentally.

It is not like he is a 25 year old Dominican pitcher claiming to be 16 years old. His age should not really be an issue.

If he can be the back to the basket threat we're missing this year I say we grab him if Lawrence doesn't sign. I'm sure Mick is able to determine if he can be effective.

I'm pretty sure he isn't a back to the basket player. In fact, I thought at one point he was being considered as a possible SF. Could be wrong on that though.

We need a post player that can demand some attention. If we don't get that I think we take a step back next year with the loss of Parker,Cash and potentionally SK. By the way I think SK stays and trys to improve on his handle. As a shooting guard at the next level if you cna't create your own shot you won't make it.

Completely agree I just don't see UC getting anyone at this point and I don't think Etou fits that description (and I think he would be project anyway). Maybe a JUCO and I'm not sure what is out there on JUCO's. Strickland is coming in but I can't imagine he'll make too much of an impact as a freshman...Definitely agree that SK doesn't go pro but that is based on basketball. Whether he makes a decision on other factors, I don't know....Also, if SK stays they won't have any scholarships unless someone leaves.

Another problem with this guy's story is that it looks like he might have played professionally. If that is the case, no way the NCAA allows it.

We need a 6-6 to 6-8 kid that can shoot three's to play the four. Strickland fits the post player mold.

SK will be back. His shooting percentage is low and he has to learn to get open and to the hoop and finish.

It would be foolish for SK to even think about leaving after this year. If he did he would be looking at late 2nd round at best. He needs to stay to work on his defense and ball handling skills.
