Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

On the football side we replaced Rick Minter with Mark Dantonio, replaced by Brian Kelly, replaced by Butch Jones. This from a football program that had absolutely NO juice whatsoever circa 2000.

It takes smart people doing their due diligence and making a strong hire. Brad Underwood isn't young but making the most of things at SFA, they've been good for awhile and play a strong style of ball. Chris Beard has done wonders everywhere he's been. Just 2 candidates off the top of my head that would probably crawl to Clifton for a job interview.

Again, a moot point. I want Coach Cronin at Cincinnati.

The Rick Minter comparison is a perfect one to this Mick Scenario. The guy made us somewhat relevant, got us to a bunch of bowl games, but it was recognized that a change was needed to take the next step. We pulled the string and look what happened.

He was rebuilding us from a dungeon and forced to play home games at Xavier's home court. That was the lowest period in our history.

Um, where was Cronin rebuilding from? pretty dungeon-esque. I get what your saying as far as turning away from a hometown boy but results are results

At some point the administration will have to see the correlation between lack of fan support and cronin. Who cares how the program was when he took over, it couldn't have gotten worse. How does he take it to the next level when he can't win the meaningful games to ignite the fan base? Or bring in recruits that excite the fan base? I understand there are some roadblocks and it's not easy but I believe we have given him enough time.

Was recently told by a fellow booster that season ticket sales was the lowest ever this year. Maybe the ticket office could weigh in to verify. I'm sure the mini packages could inflate the numbers.

Well, I'm usually banned by now. So, I never get the opportunity to get on a roll. It's like Justin Jennifer...one mistake and you're banned from participating.

So dramatic. You were banned 1 time for 1 week. You have made your point on here 10,000 times without being banned.

Actually,. 2 bans in the last 3-4 months. And, in the Bearcat Jeff days...more than I can count.

Hmm. I count 1. Either way, c'mon, let's not act like you haven't been given a chance to make your point. I've read more posts from you than I can count. A lot I agree with, some not as much. But you are hardly being silenced.

Oh i agree with you on everything Huggs brought...Love huggs. But i would argue that all those regular season accomplishments and high rankings would just highlight the severe underachieving in March. Kenyon's leg not included.

Well, if you mix in a Final 4 and/or a national championship in that season when we entered the postseason #1, this wouldn't even be a question.

I'll just make this one comment. There are many who violate the forum rules a lot more than I ever have, and some of them have never been banned. That's a fact! Not mentioning any names.

I've been banned so many times too. I think one was for 6 months.

Lol, are you SERIOUSLY trying to compare Mick Cronin to Jay Wright?? You're talking about a guy who went to 2 sweet 16's, an elite 8 and a final 4 in a 5 season stretch. Pretty sure he's bought himself a lifetime contract at Nova and the ability to not be questioned.

If Mick puts up results like that this discussion isn't even happening.

That wasn't the point. Point is, it's hard to consistently make the tournament and even harder to win in the tournament. It also takes some luck, we are a Cincinnati team, Cincinnati doesnt have luck. (All of our sport teams)

Honestly winning the conference is great an all but it doesn't mean much. Especially when you're in the American. We finished fourth in the conference but yet had the best seed in the tournament. To sit here and complain is ridiculous. Coach put us in that position. The few agitators on this thread just want to complain. There aren't many programs that do more with less. Some of you are so out of touch with the realities of college athletics in general. Because if you were, you wouldn't be crying like little bitches for 30 pages about things you can't control.

Are you secretly Mick? I mean that sounds like his kind of whining... I mean no ****, things are hard but that doesn't mean someone else couldn't make it happen.

This is a message board, the topic of the thread is Mick leaving to take another job because it's been speculated that he is considering it. Believe it or not there are a lot people who have the opposite opinion of you. I'm not really hearing much whining from anyone other than the last couple sentences of your post.

Mick's a big boy and he makes a lot of money. He can fend for himself.

Lol did I strike a nerve? And yes, all you have done is complained in this entire thread. Enjoy repeating yourself about things you have no control over. But this is a message board, that's about the only thing you've got correct so, party on Garth.

And you can ask 100 others who failed miserably and set programs back years the same question. If I knew for sure we could get the next Sean Miller or Brad Stevens Im with you L-T. Mick Cronin's performance has not made me want to take the risk of going after a Sean Miller and ending up with a Josh Pastner.

Our tradition and stature, plus what we are willing to pay, makes it way more plausible that we can find the next really good coach. If it were another program, the risk might be too high.

I agree about winning the conference. Can you imagine the posts on here if Mick regularly won the conference only to lose in the first or second round year after year? L-T, westside, and their minions would stomp down the road with torches and and pitchforks. No chance they would use that accomplishment as a vote of confidence for Cronin.
