Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

Please, name one coach who has used uc basketball as a stepping stone? Uc is, has been, always will be a basketball school. You don't use a school like uc as a stepping stone.

The college sports landscape has changed since UC was a relevant "Power" in CUSA. It's dangerous to think that just because your past dictates you were a power, you will continue to be one just because. If UC gets in the Big 12, I would be more likely to agree with you. In the AAC, not so much. No guarantee.

My issue with recruiting has been with the program depth. We never use our scholarships and rarely get production outside of the top 3-4 players on the team.

That doesn't get better without the private plane, better facilities, renovated arena, etc. unless you bring in a name coach like K, Pitino, etc. That's not happening. The status quo is the status quo unless the university invests in the program no matter who the coach is.

I'm not saying Mick is stepping up if he takes UNLV. What I'm saying is that making the tourney 3 or 4 years in a row would be deemed successful and allow a coach to step up if they wanted.

I get your point, there's valid concerns. I think if we stay in the AAC we're screwed anyways. If we get the P5 invite we become a destination.

The bottom line for me is I've seen enough of Mick's tired act. Everyone knows I've wanted him out for the better part of 5 years and now he's apparently willing to leave on his own. I'm thrilled about it and I truly believe everyone will look back at this in 5 years and realize it was the greatest thing to happen to UC hoops since the 92 final 4.

Mick will have his nice little mid major program out at UNLV and we'll be balling out in the Big 12.

Could still bring in more local talent to fill out the bench. There are a lot of players within a couple hundred miles of Cincinnati that are D1 caliber. I get what you're saying though.

Is anyone else surprised with how silent unlv has been? They fired rice 2 m,onths ago. I remember when uc lost in the nit, uc had a presser in a hour announcing mick.

If they don't get there guy, unlv ends up looking pretty bad. Hell, i bet pitt has a coach before unlv.

Probably just had to wait for everyone's seasons to end.

People love to talk about the "landscape of college athletics changing" but what the heck does that actually mean?? Apparently Wichita State, San Diego State, VCU, UNI, Gonzaga and many others schools have failed to get that memo.

The landscape has changed in terms of conferences but the main ingredient required to build a strong program hasn't. Great coaches build great programs regardless. The landscape may look a bit different but the ingredients required to grown a healthy lawn are still the same.

What is both sad and stunning is # people outside Cincinnati that understand/appreciate job Mick has done vs # locally that don't #Bearcats

And this: http://www.espn1530.com/onair/james-rapien-56340/mick-cronin-to-unlv-isnt-as-14516476/

Its worth a listen to. L-T and a few others won't pay attention but its interesting. Basically how many fans never game him a shot and refuse to recognize that he re-built the program in the shadow of bob huggins.

Who the hell is that guy and why should I care for his worthless opinion?

Last thing I am going to say tonight before going to bed is this: it is my opinion, that if Mick leaves, UC fans should be very concerned about the investment in the program by the AD and university. I don't believe this posturing has anything to do with Mick's salary. It's about recruiting disadvantages such as no plane, poor facilities, unfulfilled promises by the AD. UNLV has better facilities and if they are willing to pony up for some of those recruiting advantages, it could be enticing to a coach.

I'm sorry that you don't agree with everything you read on the internet. FYI there is an ignore feature :).

He said what if UNLV offers him 4 million? They just paid there last coach $300,000.

He also had no problem trashing Jermaine Lawrence when he left bc his dad had cancer. But he's so noble for defending the millionaire 40-something year old coach from some nameless fans.
