Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

@davecokin
This Mick Cronin to UNLV buzz seems really far-fetched to me. Signed a 7-year extension at $2.2 million two years ago.

^This is one of my favorite Vegas guys. He's a radio host and guest on pregame.com.

How many times have we seen coaches leave after signing an extension?

If unlv offers and he say no, it will have nothing to with his extension.

Xavier's average seed that they play in the second round is around 13 or so. Bauer is right, the tourney is about luck just as much as talent. XU has had some lucky draws in previous years that have lead to their Elite Eights.

Says a lot about how I think most of us feel here.

Love all the comments about mick is uc and uc is mick bs.

Love to read these same people tweets if he takes the unlv job.

People in Cincinnati love to complain. It's what they do best. People wanted Huggs gone in the early 2000s because of tourney performance and then complained when he was fired. The same people that want Mick fired would act like his best friend if they met him. These same people would act like they were in his corner the entire time if he led the Bearcats to a Final Four next year. It can be difficult to see it living in Cincy because the local media sensationalizes everything and feeds into this attitude. Move away for a little bit and it becomes painfully obvious.

We're in a tough spot because Mick's done a good job of rebuilding our program but hasn't elevated us to the level we'd like to be at. I'm sure Memphis is regretting not letting Pastner go to Arizona St or USC when they showed interest.

Pastner has not performed with better facilities and better recruits. Mick has done much better with far less.

Yeah having to play Lehigh and St. Bonaventure was really an upset to get to the sweet 16. The NCAA tournament sometimes is just as much about luck when it comes to matchups and advancing. I guess my question to you L-T would be this: If Mick Cronin had all the things Chris Mack has do you think Cincinnati would be considerably better than they are right now? That means the administration is 100% behind the program before anything else. In a good league. Have a state of the art arena. A plane to recruit. And first class training facilities. Or do you think Mick simply is a "mid major" coach and those things would not matter?

Mack got two sweet 16s long before moving to a good conference. Our training facilities are amazing and were all part of the varsity village and Lindner center upgrades. A new arena might help, but Cronin has lost the fanbase and will they come to a new arena, and pay considerably higher prices for this same coach? I really doubt it. A plane will help. I don't know Jack. Lots to consider.

It's not like complaining about sports teams is exclusive to Cincinnati. No championships since 1990 and some people wonder why we complain. SMH.

The reality of the situation is this. If Mick leaves to take another job I'd have to assume it was a better offer. Otherwise why would he leave. He certainly isn't being forced out. There has to be something more going on for him to consider going elsewhere after so vehemently claiming this was his dream job. He has also made it clear previously when others were inquiring that he was not available. What has changed. Are facility enhancements heading south, are league affiliation talks dead. What is going on. Can't believe this is all about him getting a good extension.

Those who always bashed Huggs' NCAA failures always conveniently ignored the luck argument.

I didn't. I loved Huggs. Wish he was never fired. He was. You have to move on. That said, it's hard to take anyone seriously who constantly says Mick has underperformed when the data doesn't show that at all. I've wasted too much time on this thread today. Mick will be the coach of Cincinnati next fall.

Hey guys, let's not argue when we're on the verge of possibly one of the greatest moments in UC sports in the last decade. This should be a time of celebration. To quote the great Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

That Steve Fuller tweet is a great post. It's the most sensible and data proven statement about the situation. You won't find that logic with people leading the charge on this thread.

The data does say that.....but only if your open-minded enough to analyze all the data and not just the data that fits your agenda.

Hope your right Jason

Anyone. This is the dumbest argument ever. To keep a bad coach because you're worried you can't find something else.

That's not why you keep him. You keep him because he has made the NCAA Tourney 6 years in a row. He is the winningest coach under the age of 45. He graduates his players. They actually go to class (looking at you, Xavier). He is a great ambassador for the University. He wants to be at Cincinnati and is not looking at it as a stepping stone dispite being in an average to below average conference and having average to below average facilities.
