Look lets be real here. I have stated since Mick was hired his offense is questionable at best. I suggested he go out and find an assistant who knows offense... blah blah blah

All Mick EVER wants to talk about is defense. Defense this, Defense that. I cant remeber the last game the bearcats scored in the 80s. Its time to talk about offense. Its time for Mick to realize his schemes are not good. Say what you want about not having shots fall, but shots "have not fallen" since his tenure began.

There is zero movement when we play against a zone. When we play against a man, its a stupid weave that accomplish nothing. If its not that its passing the ball into yancy and cutting through, which then the defender thanks us because you ran a double right to yancy.

These are not hard concepts to grasp. If mick refuses to learn offense then his team better run and gun all day long, which they dont. Offense Mick, Offense. Its half the battle. Better figure it out.

The offense has been extremely bad this year(s). I can not count how many missed lay ups we had yesterday. Not to mention the dumb basketball I.Q. At the end of the game, Yancy should have never touched the ball since he is the worst free throw shooter and what does he do? Goes up top and gets the ball to of course get fouled and miss his ft. What about Dixon? Why on earth he shoots a 3 at the top of the key in the final minute is ridiculous. Those bone head plays are just a few that happened and they are coming from our seniors! It is wasn't for kilpatrick making like 4 three's in a row we would have been down a lot earlier.

Yesterday's loss reminded me of Huggins 1990-1991 loss to Coastal Carolina and the 1994-1995 loss to Canisius.

good, now leave.

no one likes you.

eat dirt.

pound salt.

you have been banned from every website in the world wide web because you bring useless information to boards.

I agree. They don't play off picks or screen well. Passing and ball reversal is bad. They do miss a lot of open shots but don't get enough near the basket. There is no mid-range game and nothing beside a dribble to get at the basket.

Nope.

Just dont care for some jackass to come in and bring nothing. Id like to hear peoples opinion on how this offense can get better, what their thoughts on the coaching schemes... I want to talk basketball.

This sounds like we may be the worst team ever.

I truly think the only option is to make this a speed team. get the rebound and run like hell.... sure with our bench play we would have some gassed starters. But i feel like if we rebound and go we are much better. Let cash and g goooo. Thoughts?

Cronin's team, like Huggins', always will rely on defense to win games. Once in a great while, a scoring beast will end up in their laps but this team does not have that gift. The constant reliance on Gates to provide that spark shows how desperate things have become. Yancy is lazy and has been from day 1. That will not change this year. He is just plain boring to watch. I am more bored with the lack of a decent OOC however. My wife did drop some cash and buy season tickets for the winter only because she is a true fan and an eternal optimist but had hoped for a better group of teams coming in to Cincy. And Ralph/Great One, whatever you are calling yourself today, I would leave Huggins alone. He was the last one to possess the talent to fill a boring arena with screaming fans. Cronin needs to stick to his game plan and continue to develop his teams and his overall comprehension of what needs to be done to be successful in D1.

Mick learned his offense while an assistant at UC from Bob Huggins.

Some have hit the nail on the head.

For me I see useless screens. Screens off the ball that do little to create an open look. Worst of all I see way too much dribbling.

Also, everyone is brining up Yancy getting double or trippled, well DAMN! that should be an easy opportunity for high percentage buckets. No one slashes to the lane and Yancy takes days to get the ball out of his hands. A man slashing down the lane in this case is a dunk or layup. A quick pass out and perhaps another quick pass should result in an easy jumper

You dont have to be an offensive guru to score points. Simply getting the ball inside and out quickly is an offense in itself

So, Ralph, did Cronin sleep walk during his 2 years at Louisville or was he unable to comprehend Pitino's offensive schemes? Or was he just unable to learn anything during that short stint? Cronin loves to point out how he learned strong defensive schemes while under Huggins, but what did he learn from "the Godfather"? How to dress maybe? I am with "the living legend" on this. Bring something valuable to the forum to debate or shut up.

Back on hoops, I think the team will be fine. Not top 25, but still competitive throughout the season. The sky is not quite falling yet.

Can you ban this idiot? Seriously, if this board takes it self seriously at all in discussing UC sports, Ralph has no business here. He's annoying 99% of the posters.

re the offense: frankly I never thought it'd be this bad. Cronin better figure it out in a hurry because as of now it doesn't appear that defense is going to carry them. I like Yancy, but he isn't a good enough player to have the entire offense run through him. He doesn't think quickly enough or read the game well....I had the argument about Dixon with some of you but he is hurting the team as well. He is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. He goes for style points versus just making the right play. And his game is not shooting 3's, yet he is shooting 6 a game. He really isn't even a good shooter but he is taking 13 shots a game. That is not good at all for UC.

Bring something valuable to the table instead of being a complete jackass all the time.

I do often, everyone on this board had the heads up that UC was not interested in joining the Big 12 was the latest. The Ralph is rarely wrong, I get the impression that you are very jealous of that. Wanting Mick fired because he is not Bob Huggins is about all you ever bring to the board TLL. If you do not like my posts you are under no obligation to read them, so do not. There are many who want to read the Ralph's insights which is why in only 3 days time The Ralph has many twitter followers including members of the UC athletic department. UC Marketing, now AD at Towson State, emailed me quite awhile ago that of all the posters on BCN I was the most enjoyable read.

You also said WVU would decline the big 12 as soon as it got an invitation. You also said, UC had already declined an invitation to the big 12, your proof being "I didn't see where a source saying they didn't decline an invitation."

Regardless, I'm not sure why people get so upset at Ralph. He obviously is trying to get under people's skin, just ignore it. Ralph is the typical person who throws a bunch of sh!t out there, and maybe one out of every 10 things he claims is true, yet we constantly hear about that one thing.

You sir, are the greatest sports message board troll of all time.

Saying I want mick fired is absurd. I want mick to learn some offense.

Have I been skeptical of Mick, absolutely. As a season ticket holding fan, I have every right to be. Sorry Im not going to follow a program blindly.

As for this team. Why not run? To me, G, cash, sean, dion and everyone else in the open court can play. Ill assume Micks concern with that is conditioning. I want to see some tempo this evening. No one in the 5th third yells, go go go more then this guy.

I have no idea why this team doesn't run more. In fact, Mick's teams have never run, even after that is all you heard about to start last season. I understand their bench is limited, but they are still much more athletic than the others teams they will face in the OOC. No reason to play at such a slow tempo.

I have been saying Mick has no clue what an offense looks like since he got here. As a season ticket holder I've sat in a half-empty 5/3rd arena too many times and watched a poor brand of offensive basketball too many times to just throw my support behind Mick. I'll support him if and when he proves to me that he can win year over year.

Too many times I've watched our guys stand around on offense and chuck up 3's or even worse, get shot clock violations. Too many times Mick has called a timeout only to see his guys come back out to the court and stand around some more.

Perhaps the most infuriating thing of all is to listen to his post game press conferences in which he puts absolutely zero importance on his team's inability to play offense. After the Presbyterian loss it was the same old, same old from Mick during the postgame. Blames his players, says he doesn't have the guys to win games unless they play ugly, and blames the defense for a loss. (btw, this is your 6th season, not having the guys is no longer an excuse that you can make)

I'm sorry, but you played Presbyterian, you should run them out of the gym. You held them to 56 points, you should win the game. If you can't score more than 54 points against a team like Presbyterian than you have a problem that you need to identify and solve. You want to win the game 74-56 and then complain about the defense I'm fine with that, but when you lose 56-54 to a team you should handle easily don't talk to me about defense. He can blame his players all he wants but a loss to Presbyterian, especially the way the game was lost, is 100% on him. Take the blame, take it like a man, and move on. Instead of sitting in your post-game sulking and pretending like the sky is falling you should be down playing the loss. Chalk it up to a bad performance, say you hope the guys learn something from it, take the blame, and promise that it won't happen again. Too many excuses Mick.

Mick's act is getting very old for me, as I've said all along I hope he is the right guy for the job because he is the perfect guy for the job. He's a local guy with strong ties to the school and the community, I would love to see him bring us back to being an elite bball program. The more I see games like Saturday, and the more I listen to his post game insights, the more I begin to doubt that Mick will ever be the guy we all want him to be.

Learn how to run an offense, take advantage of your best players offensive skills and just win games.
