Guyn is definitely the better defender while Caupain is the better scorer. Guyn protects the ball much better bringing it upcourt. Caupain needs to lower his dribble and he'll be fine.
Guyn does not protect ball better. Look at their TO rate.

I just think yesterday's stats speak volumes:

Minutes: both 19
Points: G:0, C: 4
Rebounds: G:1, C:5
Assists:G: 0, C: 4
TO: G: 4, C: 2
PF: G: 4, C: 2

GG has handled the ball way more than TC. I am just going on visual observation. Virtually all of GG's turnovers have come as a result of penetration drives which sometimes he looks great doing and others he looks like he's still at HS level. That's not his main problem. Lack of court acumen which I believe is part of basketball IQ, and tough to teach, is his weakness. He has tossed the ball away twice trying to lead fast breaks with full court heaves.
BTW, according to both GameTracker and Yahoo, TO's were GG:2, TC:1
Better check ESPN again, too. They agree.

They are statistically better than New Mexico in defensive efficiency (121 vs 130). I would equate them to a mid major version of Pittsburgh. They rebound the ball very well and are pretty physically imposing in the front court. In offensive efficiency they are about as good (or bad) as Cincinnati. They don't pass as well as Pitt...

New Mexico was 53rd in adjD efficiency before yesterday's win against Marquette. They are currently 57th. Middle Tennessee State is 115th.

G is a better defensive player... However this team issue is not defense...

TC needs to step up and look to shoot the ball. He may be the 2nd best shooter on this team.

There really shouldn't be any argument over who should play between Guyn and Caupain. Guyn is averaging less than 1 assist in 18 minutes per game. He hasn't had an assist in his last four games while chalking up 71 minutes. That is beyond atrocious and is reason enough for him to be on the bench. It's be one thing if he was a scoring PG, but he has only scored 5 points in those four games. Time to sit him on the bench except when Caupain needs a breather. Figure this out Mick.

Yeah, c'mon Mick...pay attention to the facts on the court. If the defense is advantage Guyn (and I'm not sure it is), this team screams for offense. I'd rather have a guy who gives up 4 and score 8 than a guy who gives up none & scores none.

I agree Caupain has outplayed Guyn, but one thing we have to remember is Caupain has been in foul trouble some and Mick still likes to rotate for fresh legs, so Guyn will still see good minutes.

Guyn has got in foul trouble more than Caupain this year, Guyn should know better he is an upper class men.

Guyn is better for the team at this point than Caupain. That could and probably will change but he is the better player right now

Well, I hate to break it to you, but you're just about the only person on this message board who feels that way.

A point guard is supposed to do more than just dribble the ball up the floor and hand the ball to Sean Kilpatrick. We need a point guard who can help space the floor with perimeter shooting, has good court vision and looks to get his teammates easy looks, and can get to the rim and hit his free throws. The only thing Guyn has on Caupain is defense, and Caupain is not a defensive liability by any means.

I would grade Guyn a B+/A- on defense, but a D on offense. Caupain gets a solid B on both sides of the ball.

Who's your dealer? You must be smoking something to think that Guyn is anywhere near Caupain. Caupain is just a much more skilled basketball player, Guyn isn't even a good point guard (more TO than assists) and he is purely a defensive specialist at this point.

It's very easy…

Guyn knows the offense better and is more consistent as of right now.

Caupain has more upside but he's not ready to start yet and contribute consistently

Mick knows this as well. You rip on Guyn for turnovers? Who had more turnovers tonight? Caupain. He's not ready to start yet. He might be later in the year but not as of right now and you know it

We've played 12 games, you can base much more off of 12 games than you can off of 1. Guyn might know the offense, but he sure as hell can't carry it out. Too many stupid decisions, I've seen him enough to know he isn't starting material. He can't consistently shoot and he doesn't even bring the ball up the court most of the time he is in the game because he is so unreliable. No contest, man.....

Guyn and caupain are even in my book, Caupain is a freshman guys, he shows it sometimes as well. He is going to be a great player here know doubt, but I think a lot of you guys don't realize we need them both to play well for us to win games. A point guard with fresh legs is an awsome thing to have and that's what we have with those two splitting minutes I like them both and I don't have any problems with how they are being played.

Correct.
