More W's each year under Mick

i am a huge mick supporter and this is nice to say and talk about, but when your out of conference schedule gets progressively easier each year, this isn't much to hold your hat on. i think eyes should focus on our big east record.

07- 2-14
08- 8-10
09- 8-10
10- 7-11
11- 7-6 to date

progress in wins isn't very relevant if we are not making moves in the big east.

If you get into that debate though you need to start dissecting how strong the Big East has been each of those years, don't you?

Hell, it's looking more and more like the Big East WILL get 10 bids this year... if UC finishes 9-9 or 10-8 I'd say that's sign of GREAT progress.

Maybe, but I think with the Big East your always going to have some really good teams, and there isnt too much of a difference from year to year in the Big east IMO. The teams that are the "really good ones" might change, but you will still have around the same amount.

I would say the OOC schedule is where a big difference would be made between seasons in the difficulty column. Not just for UC, but for every team. I do think it's a little short-sided to just look at the amount of W's and say, improvement.

I would say that this team has potentially passed the "eye test" for progress made though. Especially when playing the way they did last night. Only reason I say potentially, is because they haven't played like that on a regular basis.

the only reason the big east is getting more bids this year is because the tournament has expanded from 65 to 68. also, the way the schedules pan out at the end, the big east is likely looking at 9, with the possible addition of a 10th team in.

I disagree. Look at the resumes right now- I think everyone looks good save for Marquette.

resumes right now are not important. resumes in 3 weeks are.

Really?! What a revelation!!!

We'll see who is correct. I think 10 teams will make it. You think 9 will.

SO I guess you think UC will not make the tournament then? Since they are in line to be the 10th team in right now...

They finished 8-10 in the most difficult year of the Big East, and then 7-11 in a much weaker year. I wouldn't venture so far to say there has been GREAT progress. 8-10, 8-10, 7-11 will prove that point.

If the season ended today? I don't think they get in. Though they would be on the bubble and IMO have a good shot at the play in game.

I think if it ended today they'd get in. 20-6 and sitting 45 in the rpi. The only person I've seen say they wouldn't get in is Doug Gottlieb and Rivals. Lunardi is damn close on this every single season, including seeds, so if he thinks their in I feel pretty good about our chances.

Im not too sure what I was thinking- for some reason I guess I was saying if I were to predict today what do I think will happen...they would be in if it ended today- though I don't see them taking 10 from the Big East. Having said this- I don't know that Lunardi is close including seedings- I always thought he was accurate with teams in and out but always messed up on seedings.

Did you see where Lunardi has them on the S-curve?

#43

The last 4 in are #45, 46, 47, 48

This was PRIOR to the win against 'ville.

Then in with some work to be more solid. It's all in their hands. They completely control their destiny.

Agree. The Big east certainly gives teams plenty of chance to play their way into the NCAA...although it's a tough task. Beating 'ville made the home stretch MUCH easier for this group though.

Now you only ("only" ;)) have to beat Providence and Marquette I think to stay in...and you have some great chances to grab another "Wow" win against GU or UConn. Should be interesting to see how this team finishes.

I really think they need to find a way to win one from Georgetown (X2) and UCONN. That's assuming they win one of the games @ Providence and @ Marquette though. Ultimately they have to have 2 of the final 5 and it would be nice to have 3.

progress in wins isn't very relevant if we are not making moves in the big east.

Objective measures such as Pomeroy and Sagarin also suggests progress every year, including a big jump this year.

Also, this is the deepest and strongest the Big East has been since we joined.

A couple things about last night. First it gets the monkey off their back. They were putting pressure on themselves and trying to do too much. Secondly, it shows them they can beat the top teams and how you beat them. That will give them confidence going forward and the value of that can't be overstated.

i couldnt agree more. the confidence is huge, they can believe in them selves. hopefully they can win at providence then i really think they can beat uconn here. they dont scare me much because we have multiple guys to throw at walker and no one else on that team scares me
