He must have left the starters in so he could make a point before the X game because he should have had Jenifer and Moore out there more in second half if he was that upset. Could be a good coaching move.

He should have benched players tonight if he was disgusted. He just let them play shitty...maybe for a reason

Hey guys, I read this forum daily, but rarely post... not sure why.

But the effort has been abysmal

What this team needs are players who want to take control of the game. SK did it with scoring, JJ did it with defense. I would love to see someone try to take control on both ends. This team needs an Eric Hicks. Someone who will grind out every play.

I know everyone discussed the balance in this team coming into the season, and so far this season we have seen that any one player can put up a career night any game... But we need a leader. Someone consistent at both ends of the floor.

Ellis has a high shooting percentage, and could be that player when he wants to play defense too. If only the effort was there.

I give a lot of props to DeBerry. He is not the most skilled ball player or best athlete, but he at least is willing to bang and use his power.

Please, somebody take the reigns, set an example, and lets get 4 or 5 guys out there who we don't want to take off the floor because we know they will give us everything they have day in and day out. Please.

It's kind of funny that for years people complained that we didn't have enough guys that can score but neglected how tough those teams were. Well now we see the issues with the opposite types of teams.

The toughness thing only got us so far. We'll be ok.

I think most people want to see both though. Right now there is just too many holes in the defense, especially the corner 3.

Just gotta find the right balance. I like how Mick put it squarely on the players. These kind of moments can help us in the long tun. Still a lot of season left to figure things out defensively.

Yeah college basketball is a long season. You just want to be at your best at the end of the season. There are just more things to improve on than I initially thought.

I agree but people figured if we had offensive players it would solve all our problems. Growing pains for sure...

It's a lot easier to teach toughness and hustle than it is to teach offense. Plus it's more fun to watch. Losing to Butler sucked, but it was 10x more exciting than the losses in years past.

That corner 3 is an issue with the defensive scheme as a whole. I said it a couple weeks ago and unfortunately it looks like it may take getting shredded by Xavier to realize it again this year.

Mick will get it figured out. The rule changes this year made the focus on offense a must in the off season. Long season. Would much rather be playing good at end of season then the beginning.

Could also be the fact we have really had our way with the cup cakes early on. The team may be thinking we can just out score people. I think that is what Mick is so upset about.

Evans is moving around in a little walking boot this morning. I think he will be able to go but if he cant thats a big loss really think he would be very effective in breaking their 1-3-1

Came across a really weird stat when looking on kenpom today.

We are 3rd best in the country at defending 2-pointers giving up 36.5% shooting. 222 in the country vs the 3 giving up 35.5%.

So yes teams shoot 36.5% inside the arc vs us and 35.5% outside the arc. (btw averages in college for all teams is 48.3% for 2's and 34.1% for 3's).

I think we focus a little too much on not allowing penetration by sagging a little too much. We should get up on three point shooters and not give them room to shoot. We have good help behind the perimeter defenders. If we allow a little penetration we are one of the best shot blocking interiors in the country. I would rather play the 3 more aggressively after seeing the results.

This was my initial thought. Then again, if we are too aggressive out top and get beat off the dribble, getting to the middle versus our defense is exactly what teams want. That's why there are so many open corner 3s.

But I agree with allowing some penetration since we have Ellis, Clark and DeBerry guarding the basket. They can correct a lot of mistakes. Versus X I definitely want to see more pressure by the guards in the half court, really make them work for the 3 shot, otherwise this could get ugly.

Is it me or does it seem like the vast majority of pop and kick for open 3's happen against Shaq's side?

He definitely gets lost and pinches down when he's not supposed to. Seems like everybody has been struggling though.

The entire thing is out of whack. We help when we don't need to and basically pick our own defender while leaving a guy standing at the rim open. That happened a few times.

They just need to get their heads out of their rear ends, this shouldn't be happening to a team that returns the top 7 guys.

That is what I was thinking.
